The rating has nothing to do with the food or service at this establishment. I find all the above to be above average. The food is fantastic for the price, and the staff are generally helpful. The setting is really chill, and relaxed, and it’s great place to do homework or to study. The negative aspect of my review comes from the the art they put up on the walls. The person Nostalgia has chosen to curate the paintings each month is entirely disconnected from the customer base that Nostalgia has. The majority of the customers here are students, or low income young people who live downtown, yet she regularly puts up paintings far above 1000 dollars, and wonders why no one buys them? I get it, she’s probably commission based, and so a 1300 dollar painting being sold is better than a 130 dollar painting being sold. None of the people that regularly go to Nostalgia are going to be able to afford the stuff she puts up. I’m not even saying the stuff she puts is not worth the asking price listed on them, that is beside the point I’m trying to make. This curator needs to remove her head from her asshole.

The quality of the food depends on who is working that day. First of all, I’m extremely unimpressed by the smug customer service here. The crêpe itself is good, but the spring crêpe has a really weird filling. let’s just say… That it’s safe to say that filling does not belong in a crêpe. The nutella crêpe is good though! That’s where my one star goes.

This place is always crammed it seems, but I have a feeling it’s mostly because it’s open late and is a total study hub. The crepes are pretty tasty but everything else is just okay. And if you do plan to go here with the primary intention of studying, you’re going to have to awkwardly share one large table and one power outlet with seven other strangers. It gets really loud. I’d recommend just dropping in for a cup of hot beverage to go.

This place is so nice and cozy! Yummy crepes and coffee. Amazing atmosphere as well. This place was an excellent find. Staff is super friendly. Great place to go and study, and play games while hanging with friends.

Finally found a place that can create an actual Hazelnut Flat White. A frothy, creamy cup of liquid joy that hits the spot on a frigid day. It wasn’t even on the menu but they surprised me and made it anyway! What more can you ask for? Pair it with some vegan treats and you leave a happy camper.

Delicious hot chocolate! Open late, which is a bonus for those desiring a hot beverage after concerts, movies, etc.

By far my favorite place to study in Salt Lake(and drink copious amounts of tea and soy chai lattes). Nostalgia’s wifi is always fast and reliable, and the staff is friendly. I haven’t tried a huge variety of drinks there, mostly because the drinks I do get are delicious and I don’t have any reason to change up my order. Their vegan pastries are awesome too! If you need a super quiet study environment, then Nostalgia isn’t for you. But I’m always 100 times more productive there than I am in the library or anywhere else. Also, you leave with the smell of coffee on your clothes, and it makes you nostalgic for one of the best coffee shops in Salt Lake.

We arrived shortly after they opened for breakfast. We were quickly seated with a high chair for the 2yo. Two cappuccinos — fluffy tops almost as stiff as meringue. Had to add sugar and stir — 3 star. I wish I could expect more from restaurants when it comes to espresso drinks, but they all seem to disappoint. Our fresh squeezed orange juice, however, was sublime. I ordered the Irish coffee French toast, and my partner ordered the wild organic mushroom scramble. The French toast was one of the best I have ever had — easily 5-star. It was sweet without being too sweet. The mixture of flavors ensured each bite was different and delicious. The whip cream was whipped perfectly just stiff enough to hold shape and was delicious. The portion size also was, thankfully, just right. French toast portions always seem two huge for me, and my belly doesn’t appreciate when I eat too much of it. At Café Niche, this isn’t a problem. I had room to eat my side — the deviled eggs for protein. The deviled eggs were a little dry and bland, I’m sad to say. They were solid, but three was plenty. Our son was not excited about either of our dishes. I guess the espresso syrup or whisky caramel poisoned the French toast for him. So, we ordered plain, scrambled eggs off-menu. To our delight they were perfectly buttery, fluffy, just-the-way-dad-does-it and the boy snarfed them up. Happy kid! Thank you for letting us order off menu! The service was perfect. Overall, a better espresso and more interesting deviled eggs and they would be 5-star.

Good coffee & a menu that goes beyond pastries. So far I’ve only tried a sandwich and it was really good. I’ll have to try the crepes next time. I could smell them cooking last time I was there and they smelled SO yummy! Great place to study — open late, lots of table space & good lighting.

Since under new ownership/management this café has changed quite a bit. The service is awesome and staff is knowledgable. Candice knows everything, ever. My favorite London Fog in town & their sorta secret«SLC Smog» drink is a delicious alternative. The atmosphere is very conducive to studying– lighting, warm colors, comfy tables/chairs, couches, art exhibits, etc. I’m very pleased with the positive change!

I haven’t yet tried their coffee, so I’m leaving this review at 4 stars pending judgment there, but the earl grey latte I had was spectacular – 5 stars good. I would recommend this place for that drink alone; it was a real treat.

By far the best Yerba Maté drinks in town. Iced Maté is brewed right for a robust, strong flavor. Hot Maté is brewed with the espresso machine. Maté lattés are made with steamed milk and Maté pressed through the espresso machine as well. Maté Latté is especially good with soy milk and honey. Great location, plenty of seating, wifi, plenty of plug outlets for various needs. Baristas are knowledgable and kind. Food is great. Pastries are fresh. One of the better places I’ve been locally for crepes. Outdoor seating is as good as it can be for the location. Coffee drinks are quality as well, for those who care.

Open until midnight every night of the week. Fast WiFi. Convenient location. For the most part a friendly staff. Coffee is pretty good. Really tasty vegan pastries, if you’re into that. They also do a de-licious vegan mac n cheese(again, if you’re into that) and plenty of sandwiches and crepes. Good for late night homework or hippy-dippy jam sessions on the patio.

Always crowded and the parking is way too expensive, if you’re planning to stay for a few hours. Staff members are corky, sightly xenophobic. Some of them. The food is overpriced, but their sandwiches are fine. Nothing special about the coffee as well. Often burnt. I like the spaciousness and the atmosphere. It’s an average place, in my view.

Any time I think of this café, I get a little… nostalgic. I bet you didn’t see that coming. I used to live in the Avenues and this spot was always in rotation. It has always been a great place to study, meet up with friends, and well, have great drinks. They used to serve beer which I thought was cool. I’m not sure if that’s the case because I forgot to look last time I was there. I’m not in the area much these days but if I am, I like to stop by. It’s still a great place for quiet time and quick meetings. Everyone is pretty respectful and willing to share space. There are people of all walks and all ages here. The drinks are still fantastic. It’s one of my favorite places to get a London Fog(almond milk for me!). I haven’t tried any of their food in years but it’s on my list. I can’t say no to a savory crêpe!

I’m about to leave this place and it’s 10 pm. That is one thing about Nostalgia that can’t be beat; it’s open late. Another thing that can’t be beat is the Internet strength and dependability. They change their password often, probably because neighbors steal it or people will sit in their car outside the building snacking on Doritos and using the wifi to watch Youtube instead of going inside. Their meal-like food is pretty good, though not super cheap. I have tried the Mac n cheese and sandwiches and liked them. I hear the crepes are meh, but what do they know? A cup of Joe is $ 1.85, which is more than some places and less than other places. It can be crowded and hard to find a spot at times, especially when school is in full force. Sometimes the music is too loud and I can hear it over my headphones. Maybe I need better headphones? This is a great place to study for hours and hours as the Internet will never let you down, there are many seat choices including outside, and they have food to keep you around when you’re too caffeinated.

Nostalgia isn’t a place that I’d go out of my way to tell you to avoid, but it’s also not a place that I feel merits any reason to actively seek out. In essence, it’s a very average looking place that serves very average coffee. The iced latte was INCREDIBLY strong and cheap, but that’s about all I can say in its favor. There’s also nothing I can really say about the atmosphere here. It is generic at best. With so many other great coffee places in the area, I can’t fathom why Nostalgia would top anyones list. Works in a pinch, I suppose.

Very hipster café with some playful coffee banned. This place did have some good wifi and was open late. Parking was on the street. Unfortunately I didn’t get to try the cooked food, but they had vegan muffins and cookies, which was interesting.

This place is fantastic if you’re a WiFi mooch and wish to act like you are doing really important things on your MacBook… you’re not fooling me though, I know you’re wasting time away by updating your FaceBook or practicing your pickup lines on other players in World of Warcraft. It just so happens that none of that is important and none of that is making the owners of this establishment any money. I suppose it’s because of that that they have seemingly given up on putting out quality products/service; because the typical patrons don’t care as long as the WiFi keeps flowing freely. Since I have a real job, am willing to spend the money that the real job affords me, I come to places looking for good grub and at least decent service. This place offered me neither. Hot drinks were warm, cold food was warm, hot food was cold and when I decided to complain that my crêpe was cold, Bruce Hornsby behind the counter told me «That’s just the way it is». Well here’s a tip for you and the Range, Bruce, crepes should be hot; the wheel they are cooked on is hot… turn it up a notch and figure it out. Or, be complacent with giving away coffee refills to the WiFi mooches. Has anyone actually played a full game on that chess board, by the way? Doubt it. Bottom line, if you are still reading: try elsewhere.
