Heehaw I mean death core metal Grooowl… lol! This place has some identity issues. I’ve been here a few time and every time I walk in, there’s country music playing on the jukebox. But yet there are skulls hanging from the bar and they have some death core bands play here every once in awhile. It’s an alright place seems to be dead for a Friday and anytime during the week! But next time your confused between those cowboy boots and those brass knuckles, its all right! Dixie has you covered:)

I have sung the praises of Dixies from a mountain top but alas kids Dixies will be moving on April 29th. One of the great things about this place was it’s location. Pour a little out for Dixies…

Ahhhh, Dixie’s. Tucked away behind a gas station, next door to an emergency vet clinic in a strip mall, this is the epitome of a dive bar. And I love every ounce of it. Walk through the doors and meet a wall of cigarette smoke. Glance around and see patrons tatted up(I believe that’s the term the kids are using these days), rockin’ out to music that is anything but country, as the name may lead you to believe, and sippin’ on $ 1.50 tallboys of Lonestar. Amazing. My last visit was on a Tuesday night, the place was decently packed for a weeknight, and everyone was gearing up for a speed quarters competition, for which the winner took home a $ 45 bar tab. For $ 45 at Dixie’s you can buy darned near everyone in the place a drink. Very generous. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to stick around to see who won, but I’m sure it provided an epic amount of entertainment. Everyone in Dixie’s is impossibly friendly, ready to party, and having a fantastic time. I love it.

If your looking for a bar to go to that’s not expensive, where nobody will start arguing with you, and you are not looking to pick up someone to take home, then Dixie’s is the place to go. If you were actually looking for a Country Bar, then DONOT go here, cause this place is pure Rock & Roll friends. When you walk in all you will see is leather, tattoos, piercings, and a metal band playing. But don’t let that frighten you friends, cause me and my coworkers go here quite often for after work drinks & we have never seen a fight or argument go down here. Oh, and I haven’t mentioned the best part, $ 1 Lone Star/Lone Star Light, and PBR tall boys!!! Yes, those aren’t the best beers to have, but for a $ 1, I’m not going to complain. They also have $ 1.50 Jack & Cokes and $ 2.50 Gentleman’s Jack & Coke. You have to be in the know to go to this place, cause they don’t advertise or anything, so I’m letting Unilocalers every where know that if you just want to chill-ax and try some place new, definitely go to Dixie’s, and you will probably see me there!

This place is great. It’s located next to a tattoo parlor if you get the drunken inclination. This bar used to be a lot more country, and twice the size that it is now, but they’ve cut it in half, and gone metal/punk. It’s a nice place. Cheap beer! $ 1.50 tallboys of Lone Star, Lone Star Light and PBR. Yum! Plus, they always have some call liquor on sale. Usually Jack or Absolut.

Leti took the words right out of my mouth. «Country Bar» is probably not the best way to describe Dixie’s. It’s more like a… undercover metal bar. The time I went there was a metal band playing and all I saw were tattoos and black leather. Which, needless to say, was amazing. I don’t know about you but I get tired of going to the same bars and seeing the same guys in polos being creepers. Dixie’s has great drink specials every night and it’s not your typical bar which is a nice change of pace. They’ve got a pool table in the back and this really awesome photo booth on the side. Which is a little weird for this kind of bar but it’s really cute when you see a biker chick and her tatted up man giggling as they exit the booth.

Don’t let the name fool you… I had the pleasure of going to this bar twice in one weekend — once on a Friday and once on a Saturday. And each day the crowd was completely different. On Friday there was a punk/oi/something band playing and it was crowded. There was a mix of punks, skinheads, rockabilly types and it was all good. It was loud and the drinks were cheap. It was a great night of getting drunk and having fun with friends. And the bathrooms are really clean — this is something that is very important to me. On Saturday night it was a rock band from Austin and they rocked! The crowd this time was more college, some kickers, some punks but everyone blended well together. This is the type of place where if you go often enough, people will know your name. It’s like hanging out at a friend’s house and having a drink wtih a whole bunch of friends. And the people there are friendly — customers and employees — I met 3 new people just hanging out and having a drink! Bottome line: Good music + cheap drinks + great crowd = One of the best bars in town! And why is it called Dixie’s COUNTRYBAR anyway???

I am a bit ADD when it comes to bars. So when someone says«let’s bar hop!» I usually am already out the door hailing a cab!(Because drinking and driving is lame. DUH.) Annnnnyway, I was lucky enough to hang with mis hombres while in San Antonio. My girl was feeling a tour of SA, and I was ALLABOUTIT. Out of the 4,500,678,567,68 and a half bars(right, so maybe 5?) we frequented that night, Dixie’s Country Bar was by far the best stop on the train. DUDE. Come here. Hidden behind a Shell station next to a tattoo shop and a veterinarian/emergency pet clinic(random?), Dixie’s will surprise the hell outta ya. It’s one of those places that you can’t tell if it is open, closed or burned down to the ground inside. P. S. Those places are the best. I almost peed my pants(in a good way.) when we walked in. Not only was there a crowd of various different kinds o’ peeps swiggin’ on Lone Star, but the most bad ass band was covering Muddy Freakin’ Waters. I mean hello? How’s a girl to say no to that? It was a three piece band made up of an old school drum kit with a rat-it-tat percussionist, a base player who crouched behind his shoulder length mop and a lead singer who joined the rest of the band chillin’ on the small stage, sitting in chairs. His sunglasses balanced on top of his nose securing his cool for the rest of the night. Plus he could wail some Muddy. RESPECT! The space is big enough to fit a few large groups, a long bar to the right and a pool table in the back. Best part? A mothaeffin’ photo booth. Thas right. My homegirl and I had a few photo sessions while her coolio lil’ brother sat outside probably trying to pretend he didn’t know us. ;) We found him at the bar spinning himself around and around on the bar stool. Some chica who was sitting at a close by mesa started to look at him with a curious stare. I thought she was hatin’ at first so I gave her the«What of it?!» look right back, but she winked. Well, I was smitten from then on. It was a minor miscommunication. I heart you lady, wherever you are! If you live in SA, you need to check this place out. I will give you instant street cred. If you are just passing through… well you should stop in too for a cheap, cold brew. It’s right off of 410. Ahhhh location, location, location…
