Good atmosphere, bartender and owner. Mostly local people. Amazing live band &70, 80 Music. Affordable drink price. So close to the beach, bay and Belmont park. If you are driving you better park in the parking lot next to the Belmont park

They let in underaged college students. I’ve seen some of the fakes and unless you’re completely blind there is no way you can believe the IDs are real. To the owners, I recommend to start caring about your liquor license and stop letting teenagers inside. The ABC department love making surprise visits anytime.

Chill spot, more for the younger crowd. Gets loud at night which might be for you but not for me. Free popcorn which is awesome but last time I was in I couldn’t bring in my dog which is strange cause its not like they serve food and come on its California! Weak beer section. Cool for a day time game if you want to just chill out, good at night if you want to dance. Check it out for yourself.

The best neighborhood bar in South Mission Beach. Locals old and young come here on a Friday afternoon for neighbor night. You can also find people from Arizona or «Zonies» here during the summer. Also USD and other collages on discount drink nights like Wednesday and Thursday. Bingo on Monday night. Trivia Tuesday. Bands on Sunday. The local slang is «I got Comber’d last night» when you go in for one and get trapped. And free popcorn.

The Comber is awesome! Been going there every summer since I was 21 and I have a great time, every time. The staff is awesome and Dean is the best!

I went the the beachcomber last weekend for the first time to see my favorite band, BumpaSonic. What a fun dive bar! Fun crowd with lots of dancing and of course the music was great! This is the typical beach dive with lots of character. The one drawback is parking, I am not sure how that is going to work over the summer.

A little part of me will always call Comber home. As a graduate of the University of San Diego, I think I can safely say that some of my greatest(and blurriest) memories all somehow involved Comber. It is what it is. A dive bar with cheap drinks and free popcorn. There are really only three types of crowds you’ll see here. 1) USD students 2) Older people(aka the Senior Moments trivia team) and 3) 30 somethings celebrating their birthday in a way that clearly shows they’re trying to hold onto their college years. But beyond the sticky dance floor, Comber’s a great local bar to dance, drink and hear the Comber song at closing. I love it.

I’ve been in SD for a while now, but I rarely get to Mission Beach for anything outside of surfing. My best friend and his buddies came to town to stay at one of the boardwalk vacation rentals and I get a text telling me to meet them at the Beach Comber. As soon as I see the place I get a nostalgic feeling of comfort because I am a personal fan of dive bars. First time coming in to the Beachcomber it was pretty dead. There were maybe 8 older guys that are no doubt OTL fans and retired Veterans that ended up purchasing our group drinks since a few of us were Veterans as well. That’s a pretty damn good start to my opinion of Beachcomber. Later the next day we came in just as the Ronda Rowsey UFC fight was finishing up and we walked right in to the belly of what was now a Lesbian bar… cool. Being the type of guy to give 0 F’s this is just a normal night of SD bar hopping. My AZ buddies were caught off guard and asked me if it was a gay/lesbian bar. Nope, we just got lucky I suppose. I don’t mean lucky in the sense of a sexual desire to be around a bunch of women, because any of of them would have and could have been able to beat my ass. I mean lucky in the sense of the entertainment for the night, because shortly after the fight ended I was front and center to a trio of girls performing a choreographed dance routine to N’Sync’s «bye bye bye’. The entire bar was cheering as these girls demonstrated to everyone that they have way too much time on their hands. Mid performance, one of my drunken friends tried to jump in the mix and dance as well, only to be pushed on his ass and out of the limelight. He comes over to me with his head held low and told me that he was just embarrassed by a lesbian. I cracked up and gave him a pat on the back of reassurance. Next time i’m in MB I will undoubtedly come by Beachcomber for a cheap drink and hopefully another show. Cheers.

If you have self esteem issues, this is the place for you, because no matter how screwed up you think you are, you will always finds hordes of South Mission losers that are absolutely shameless about putting themselves on display here. If you are a burnt-out surf dude, or OMBAC retiree, or simply want to get ripped and try to bang an ugly girl, The Beachcomber is your spot. And the bathrooms are right out of Trainspotting.

The comber is the nicest, trendiest, hard-to-get-into bar in San Diego. At least that’s what you’d think judging from the never-ending lines outside. In reality, it’s really a shitty, overcrowded jungle of 20 somethings getting their full load of booze and snapchats in before drunkenly getting Mexican food and passing out to bed, perhaps with someone they met at comber. Terrible line control when lines get big; no type of monitoring of the line whatsoever. Don’t be startled when the typical south mission douche bag lets the group of 15 more than basic USD girls cut the line with him in anticipation of taking one of them home. Ultimately, choosing comber is a lot like getting Taco Bell. It may be shitty, but it’s cheap, it’s there, and it’s a drunk betches best friend. Also — friendly staff. THREESTARS(=

i walked in this place w my fiancé, I’m dark skin his white. I walked in say hello no one reply. my fiancé goes to the bathroom, I sit down. the waitress never asked if I would like any thing to drink. no menu was placed on the table. when my fiancé walks out of the bathroom he asked if any body help me, I said no. we lifted. that was my experience at beachcomer. Decently dive-y bar in south mission beach! Some fun locals, plenty of TVs for sports watching, and low drink prices make it a good place to watch a game. Good service from bartenders, decent amount of seating, just a block from the beach.

If you’re looking for cheap drinks, great people, fun music, lots of dancing, and a memorable(or not so memorable) night, the beachcomber has it all. Living in mission beach, the comber is everyone’s number one place to hit up after classes or on any night of the week. Thursdays are my favorite night out at the comber, personally. Happy hour is a great place to start out my night and then either staying or returning around 12 to end my night is never a bad idea. The normal crowd is mostly University of San Diego students and/or mission beach residents so the vibes are young and reckless. The beachcomber is a guaranteed good time and won’t let you down!

For a seriously great time with chill people, cheap well and draft beers this is the place. Best spot to hit up if you have Fridays off because Thursdays seem to be the best day to come party here. It has a dance floor and a back area where people have made it into a drinking game place, mainly Flip-Cup and Beer Pong but what else do you need when every one is blitzed and having an amazing time. The cooler of the college crowd unlike in PB and a lot of locals kick it here. One of my favorite coastline bars.

Alas Beachcomber, your glory days of ridiculously large 32 ounce beers on Fridays are behind you. Why have you scaled back to 12 ounce domestic beers for 75 cents on Friday nights? Gone are the beer pong tables and DJ’s. The back half of the bar now has a fake fireplace and a winter diorama for the winter holidays. Our hero had to do a double take when he saw how this dive bar was trying so hard to become just a touch classier. This place is no longer much of a dive, as it is more of a retirement home where septuagenarians hit on what few clueless college girls come here… in a really creepy kind of way. PROS: — The drinks are still cheap. — The popcorn is still free. — The old folks are pretty cool to talk to sometimes and will tell you about their lives spent as a traveling plastic surgeon or how they founded the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club. CONS: — The washrooms are still really dirty and the floors are really grimy. — Poor drainage out front. It pretty much floods in front of the entrance to the bar when it rains. — It’s pretty much like an AARP social club.
