I’ve come here twice for two pitaya bowls– I was hoping the first one was a one-off since it was a late evening and they looked short staffed. It was not. The pitaya seems like it HAs to be blended with water or ice. I have made some at home with only fresh fruit and they come out so bright and magenta– chronic’s look more like a pale pink– and no actual little pitaya seeds in them either. the amount of granola/fruit available on top of the smoothies was slightly disappointing as well. I asked for honey– and the kind girl behind the counter obliged– but mentioned that its usually extra. I compare all pitaya bowls to Mozy’s in Leucadia and unfortunately this one falls short. Hopefully they can fix their recipe.

Chronic Smoothies is bomb! Literally everything there is delicious. It’s also affordable and the staff is super friendly. Do yourself a favor and give it a shot.

Dropped by to check out this place after discovering Amazon Café a few spots away was closed. Server isn’t helpful. When asking about whether they’re known for Acai or Sandwiches, he said I can have either and that both were really good. Ordered the 32pz Acai bowl and a chicken sandwich. I use the same Sambazon at home and was so surprised at how watered down and tasteless this one was. There’s a good balance of granola and very little fruit. However flavorless this was, It’s still better than the Hot Blazin Chicken Sandwich that i had though, which was too heavy on picked pepperchinis. I asked to go light on honey mustard and there was still a lot in it. The chicken was cold and the sandwich was toasted so lightly it was really just a warm bun. Very disappointing. Maybe the server didn’t know how to answer my initial question about which option between the two to have because neither option is actually good. Wish I never ordered from here. Don’t waste your calories or time. You can get a better sandwich at Subway, which is seriously sad. Would not come back.

Do not come here for acai or pitaya. You can thank me for keeping your standards high. As an alumni of UCSD and a lover of all things acai, I had high expectations for Chronic when I visited for brunch/morning bowls with my old college friends. But that was short-lived. I turned to Unilocal to find a few acai spots in PB/La Jolla area, and Chronic was our first choice(compared to other spots like Amazona – literally a few stores down). I’m sad to say that their acais, which looks so dang yummy on the interwebs, are completely watered down, sprinkled with frozen fruit, and made with subpar service. I pay for acai even though I can easily make it at home myself because I want the whole deal – service, slushy blends, and fresh fruit. In other spots like Juice Kaboose in downtown LJ, they actually blend the acai in front of me and use FRESH fruit in their bowls. Chronic’s bowls are made in the back of the house, and obviously blended with ice. The 32 oz bowl is quite enticing, but I dumped my entire bowl out when I was able to drink it like water. Not cool y’all. We also ordered a breakfast burrito which was almost perfect, except we subbed the meat with avocado without charge with our server’s permission. Homegirl brought out our pre-cut burritos and even made it a point to say that they put avocado in it! Unfortunately, there wasn’t any sign of green, and we told her that it was missing. She didn’t apologize, and told us that she was gonna«kill the guys in the kitchen.» Real smooth, girl! This isn’t a harsh critique because as a fellow foodie who also works in the serving industry, I think it would have made me and my friends feel a whole lot better if she apologized or tried to make up for the mistakes with compensations or a couple of cracked jokes. She got no appreciation from me, and it could have been because we looked like college students(FYI we look young, but we’re all working individuals just like you!) or because we were a walk-in group of five, which can be stressful. But service is service, and we didn’t get any of that. The ambiance of the place is very«off the beach» with an easygoing vibe and a few patio seats outside. Even with a small shared parking area, the patio makes up for a lot of the inconvenience. But the quality of the bowls and disappointing service take a big chunk of my stars off this rating. This is San Diego. Please have some standards and don’t use ice. Good luck with your establishment!

Parking around here is a bit difficult because it’s on a really busy street. Came here for breakfast/brunch and mostly for their Acai Bowls with some friends and left extremely disappointed. We ordered a Pitaya bowl, Acai bowl, Socal burrito, and a Banzai burrito. After taking one bite of my Acai bowl, my friend noticed that there were almonds in the granola. She’s specifically allergic to almonds and when she requested for it be remade they denied her request because«all granola has nuts in them.» RUDEMUCH?! First off, the menu does not specify if it had nuts or not AND if my friend ate it without knowing she could have had life threatening allergic reaction because of their Acai bowl. The Acai/Pitaya bowl itself was so watery you can see the fruit being separated from the water. It tasted more like an icee with flavoring in it. They messed up on one of our burritos and it was small, bland, and basic. Chronic Smoothies needs to change their name to Chronically bad food and blazin insensitive attitude.

My friend had an allergy to almonds which is in the granola and these insensitive and careless people told her to scrape it off without even offering to get her a new one without the granola. Wow. If that’s how they treat their customers then I’m not coming back. That’s ridiculous. And their acai bowls are watery. Waste of time and money. ANNND they kept messing up the orders! Every time. What a shame. I’m about to mess up my lipstick for this???

I got a big acai bowl and a super breakfast sandwich. The large acai bowl barely had any fruit in it and the super breakfast sandwich was pretty small. I posted pics of both.

Food here never disappoints — I never get burgers, either, but wanted one last Friday and went here — it was .zing. Nice staff, too.

I live in the neighborhood and have gotten sandwiches and salads here quite a few times over the last 2.5 years. The latest sandwich I received is pictured, and the reason I won’t bother going back. I ordered a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich with avocado and mayonnaise on nine grain bread. They forgot the mayo, the bread was stale, and they gave me ONEPIECEOFBACON. I had grabbed the sandwich on the way to the airport and was so bummed when I finally got to my gate and sat down to eat lunch only to see that sandwich. I called and they reversed the charge on my card, but it’s honestly too little, too late. The last few sandwiches I’ve ordered from there were either missing avocado or tomato, and that’s sad when there’s only 5 ingredients on the sandwich to begin with. Not sure what the hell is going on over there but I hope a real deli replaces it soon.

+ Acai bowl — large size is huge, topped with banana, strawberries, blueberries, and granola I have only had the Acai bowls from Chronic Smoothies and they are awesome. Call in ahead of time, and your bowl will be ready for you in 10 minutes. The staff is friendly, and service is speedy. Their acai bowl is more of a smoothie with toppings, but is so light and refreshing. Great for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack. For the price, size, and quality, it is the best acai bowl in MB and PB.

I love to get their Pitaya smoothie and a build-your-own sandwich. One time I tried a sandwich that was just much too spicy and when I talked to them about it, they were so nice and they made me a totally new sandwich that was not spicy.

Soooooo… this review is pretty much solely based on their smoothies. We have yet to try their food, other than a few small items… We are so happy that we stumbled across this place! We have literally tried all of their smoothies offered on their menu — even the smoothies that are listed on their board… so be sure to see what specials are available as they sometimes have some off menu items listed. There isn’t much parking except a few spots in back but it hasn’t ever been a problem for us. Just be careful not to park in the VFW spots that are adjacent to the building. Despite that, we have never had to drive around to look for a spot. And we definitely wouldn’t let that steer us away from this place. Some of our favorite smoothies are COCONANACREME, PITAYA, PEACHMEUP, and THEMITCH. We had a side order of the french fries with sriracha ketchup which were pretty good. We have also tried their cookies and brownies which were tasty and moist. Someday our visit will include having an actual meal. But, for now, we just can’t get enough of their smoothies!

Love this place! It’s a staple. Get the acai bowl… you will not regret it! I love to get my car washed next door and walk over for a delicious treat while I wait!

Solid sandwich spot. Huge portions & very fresh! I opted for the ‘build’ your own sandwich that included turkey, sriracha aioli, sprouts, tomato, cucumber and onions on wheat bread. I also got a side of sweet fries(my fav) I got my meal to-go and it was up & ready in 5 minutes.

Holy smokes the Large Acai bowl is the biggest bang for the buck in all of PB and La Jolla. 32oz for $ 5.99 What! Sold! Check out the egg and potato burrito as well, I’m a veggie and swapped bacon for extra egg. Boom. perfection with some hot sauce!

I was torn on whether to give this place 3 or 4 stars. I gave 4 because of the taste of the food and the wide array of options. I wanted to give this place 3 stars because I feel the prices are a little too high for how basic the menu is and for what seems to be their target market. I want to eat here more often, but can’t because the cost doesn’t balance the food. While the cost is a little high, the food is good and the options are pretty wide. You can order from several options of burgers or sandwiches which are uniquely tasty, many plate options of varying sizes, and options of sauces for the various dishes. Not to miss are the simple yet perfect accompaniment of the sides. I personally like the sweet potato fries. In the end, the best items on the menu comes from the smoothie menu!

Nice choice of sandwich’s, smoothies, acai bowl’s, and an island feel. This place has had some money put into it. Very clean and well maintained. I got the very berry smoothie and it was delish!

Wasn’t feeling too well the other day and the only thing that sounded good was a smoothie. My boyfriend told me of this place right down the street from his house so we went to check it out. They had a ton of smoothie of options and I ended up getting the acai smoothie and adding protein and vitamin c. The smoothie was huge and very good! You could tell they use very fresh ingredients. The price is reasonable but it takes awhile to get your food. They have a ton of other stuff on the menu ranging from salads to sanwhiches to burgers and I would love to come back and try one of these entrees as well!

Haven’t been here in a while, but decided to stop in for a late breakfast as I was starving!!! I ordered the Hollywood; egg white sandwich with Swiss cheese, avocado and spinach. It was delicious! Definitely hit the spot! And I’ll definitely get it again. However, the wait was a little long for the amount of people there and what I ordered. And it is not as if they were meticulously putting the sandwich together either, as I found not one but two small pieces of chopped ham in the sandwich. No longer a Vegetarian option at that point. I do have to admit the ham was a burst of deliciousness I was not expecting, but I also didn’t want it. If I was Muslim or practicing Judaism, this would have posed a big problem. They need to be more careful and for this reason I kindly only deduct 1 star. Also, the parking situation can be a bit difficult. Great for locals in walking distance.
