Brooklyn is amazing! She took my drab mop of hair that hadn’t been cut in 8 months and turned it into a work of art! Gorgeous color, beautiful city. Thank you, girl!

I followed my girl Ryleigh here to this amazing little boutique salon. In the midst of all the hustle and bustle of downtown, you can find ultimate chill on the fourth floor of Market St. This unassuming salon is very personal and welcoming; you’ll feel at home as soon as you step through the doors– which is so different from most salons that bombard you with sales tactics and catty stylists/​clients.
I’ve known Ryleigh for years since when she first cleaned up my blotched orangey-​Asiany ombré in North Park, and she’s been a keeper since. She listens to what you want and is communicative with what she can make happen. She is extremely talented, detail-​oriented, and a perfectionist at heart– I notice it from her coloring skills (I love her Balayage technique on my hair) to her trendy and fashion forward cuts. On top of that, she’s just freakin’ awesome. She’s authentic and kind, and she makes you feel like you’ve known her for years.
Great vibes from both the salon and stylists. Highly highly recommended. Thanks for keeping it real!

Brooklyn is probably the most chill hair stylist I’ve ever met. My visits to Brooklyn have felt more like old friends catching up and you can tell she not only loves her job, but that she genuinely cares about her clients. I’ve been to many other stylists in the past since moving to SD and usually I find reasons not to go back. This is the first time in many years where I feel excited about my hair appts. I couldn’t recommend her enough.
I love her new spot at Fox & Parlour, it not only feels exclusive, it feels intimate & casual at the same time. It’s on the 4^th floor of an older building in the heart of the Gaslamp. Parking can be difficult, but you can’t really complain if your booking any appt in this area, you know it comes with the territory. The salon itself is a large hip studio like salon. There is no snobby front desk, or waiting around for someone to pay attention to you. Literally the moment I stepped foot inside, two other (what looked to be) stylists greeted me. Not pretentious like other salons… I’m not even sure why that became the desired environment at other places. F&P really exhibits how a salon can provide the exclusiveness without the stuffiness. I’ve never been pressured to buy any products, a nice first in my salon experiences. My only recommendation to the salon is making it easier to find once you’re in the building. There was no signage from the street but I knew the address. My first visit I had no idea where to go once inside and I don’t think there was any signage in the lobby area of the building. I hesitated calling Brooklyn, I didn’t want to disturb her in case she was with a client, but I called anyways so I wouldn’t be late from wandering and she immediately picked up and gave me directions from inside the building.

Fox & Parlour is located on the 4^th floor of a building above Blush Ice Bar. Getting in is a little awkward because you have to be buzzed in, go to the 4^th floor and figure out where to go. The cool thing about that is that there aren’t any random walk-in’s to distract your stylist while they’re working on you. The salon is also really bright and open, with views of downtown. I guess my best description would be that it doesn’t feel stuffy or salon-​like in the best possible way.
About the amazing hair artists at this place: I followed my girl Brooklyn from her previous location in Mission Hills. Brooklyn is, honestly, one of the most talented stylists I’ve had work on my hair. I’m SUPER picky and I know what I want. I feel like, at times, that makes me probably one of the worst kinds of clients ;). The nice thing about Brooklyn is that she really listens. She gives you what you want and also adds the best possible interpretation to it. When I told her I wanted to go red and showed her a picture of what I wanted, she got the color SPOT ON. When I told her I wanted to go brighter, she listened to what I was really saying and interpreted it into what I truly wanted. She’s basically a hair master. I know that’s a lot of complementing, but let’s be honest here, it’s truly hard to find a stylist who not only does exactly what you want, but knows how to translate what you’re saying into what you really want to see your hair look like. This is the first time in my life I have gotten multiple compliments a day on my hair.
On top of that, she’s just a super cool person. She’s fun, has a super positive attitude and doesn’t judge. If you want someone with experience who really truly cares, go see Brooklyn!

There’s no need to go anywhere else in San Diego for your hair needs. The staff really know what they’re doing and help to create a look that works for you. I have recommended them to all my friends who are now loyal patrons.

Kenny is one of very few natural talents. He’s been cutting and coloring my hair for years now. I had long, short, highlights, darker or lighter shads… every time he makes sure (twice) i’m committed to the change. He also takes good care of my hair (uses healthy products and gives me great tips). Me being too spontaneous, i love to call him at the last moment and somehow he would always find the time to fit me in his schedule. Big thanks for that Kenny!

I was in from out of town and found a Groupon for Fox & Parlour. I wanted to get my hair styled that same day so I called to see if there were any availabilites. Kenny was super friendly and got me in that afternoon.
Arrived and the vibe of the place is cool and relaxed. Kenny got started and gave some good advice on what he recommended for my hair. I let him go to work, and he did a great job. Extremely happy with the job he did, and I would most definitely go back whenever I’m in town again. Also, Kenny gave me the Groupon price without having to buy the Groupon. Awesome.

I have been going to Brooklyn for my hair for 2+ years, and I will NEVER.EVER. go anywhere else. So when she recently left Say Lula and joined the Fox & Parlour family, there was no question that I would follow her there.
First, let me clarify– this review is for Brooklyn and not so much the salon. The salon is great; it’s located in the heart of downtown and has a relaxed but stylish atmosphere. Parking can be a hassle, but when isn’t it in this city? They use Unite products, which I tried recently for the first time with Brooklyn and liked enough to purchase two of them. There’s no snobby passive/​aggressive receptionist, just chill people and a great vibe.
But back to Brooklyn. Brooklyn is an amazing stylist for both cuts and color. She meets my insane demands («Something edgy because I’m not 80, but also conservative because I work in finance») and helps me design a strategy for my hair. We discuss long-​term goals and build out a plan to get there. Whenever I have the itch to veer off course, Brooklyn steers me right. Right now she’s painting my roots a dark red and coloring the roots a light chestnut and the middle just blends into both. It’s not ombré, it’s way cooler, but super technical and not something you would trust with just anyone.
She’s also super knowledgeable about product. I have short, curly hair that I used to straighten every day– until Brooklyn. She got me in touch with Soufflé by Label M that has allowed me to wash n’ go with my curls for the first time since grade school. Seriously, life changing stuff right there.
Plus, she’s super cool and fun to be around. Besides getting a killer cut, I have a great time just enjoying her company for a few hours. She’s always upbeat and has fun news, gossip, and all-​around great convo.
I get tons of compliments every time Brookyln does my hair, and have referred several people to her that have also had great results. Her prices are reasonable and she is very accommodating with schedules. Definitely worth the trek downtown!

I’ve been going to Kara for three years now for cut and color. Prior to that I had hopped around from stylists, but since being referred to her by a mutual friend I haven’t gone anywhere else. Officially a loyal client forever and always. I’ve recommended her to family, friends, and strangers all with a 100% vote of confidence in her expert services. I’ve always been a fan of the ombré look but had never found a stylist who could quite achieve the coloring exactly how I wanted it. After my first time with Kara, I knew my search had come to an end. She gave me the most perfect natural beach hair coloring and the compliments after each time I leave her salon are always amazing. Not only does she do an amazing cut and color, but the salon itself is adorable and kitschy and a fun place to spend a few hours getting beautified at the hands of an expert. Kara herself is so easy to talk to and really makes the overall experience enjoyable. If you ever are unsure of your look, she is always happy to have you back in to revisit and adjust any color/​/​cut to your liking. Personally, I’ve never needed to go back in because I’ve loved it every time but she has offered this to me anyways whenever I leave the salon. All in all, Kara and Fox & Parlour is who/​where you want to be to get your hair done. 5 stars all the way.

Kara has been doing my hair since 2010. She has taken me from a dark brunette, to red head, to light brunette, to blonde! Her style and expertise are incomparable to any other stylist I’ve gone to. She actually listens to what you want and executes according to your vision, which for me is the most important thing when someone is going to touch my hair. I’ve recently been getting Brazilian Blowouts from her and they have completely transformed my curly hair from frizzy to soft and manageable. Kara is not only an insanely talented, experienced stylist, but the salon is also on another level. Fox & Parlour provides a fun, mod environment and Kara always makes getting your done feel like a vino-​drinking hangout with a good friend. Every time I go to make an appointment, she gets me in within the week and always makes herself readily available for touch ups. Since Kara has been doing my hair, she’s converted my family, friends and friends of the family into loyal customers with her amazing work and even better personality.

Kenny’s been doing my color since 2011, when I screwed up my DIY color and needed professional remediation.
He’s a super-​talented colorist, even earning the accolades of the Daily Show makeup artist when I was on the show. Fun to talk to and easy on the eyes as well But easy there ladies, he’s happily engaged to his beautiful fiancée!

One word. Awesome! Walter, been cutting my hair for almost a year now. The guy knows what he’s doing. I can see myself sitting on that chair and having my hair done by Walter as long as i live in San Diego.

I recently got my hair done this weekend by Kara, Let me tell you… I had dark brown loooong hair and wanted to go blonde (of coarse)!!! I knew this wasn’t going to be an easy task! When I first came to her and told her what I wanted she wasn’t nervous at all but more excited then anything to try new products and such on my hair! The first time I came in she got me sooo blonde, blonder then I originally anticipated and was so happy with my new long blonde hair, and this second time I came in we went blonder and a bit more ashy and I’m absolutely in love with it and surprised at how healthy my hair still feels after doing so much work to it!!! Kara Is my go to hair queen!!! Go to her u WILL NOT be disappointed!!!

Kenny treats his work like art, and represents each person’s individuality extremely well. He takes the time to do each cut with precision and care. He’s a genuinely nice dude, and he makes the experience a comfortable one. I recommend him to all my friends and clients.

After going to a few different places over the years, I started going to Kenny and won’t go to anyone else. He listens to you want, doesn’t over do it, and also lets you stop in for a clean up between cuts. Cool, laid back atmosphere, in an easy to get to location downtown. Check em out!
