Decided to give this place another try, I could not beleive the prices again lol. Omg they’ve risen since my last visit. Absolutely have to agree with the below Unilocaler. Outrageous 5 star sushi restaurant pricing on very mediocre sushi. Waitress was friendly, but the prices average $ 16 – 24 for discolored fish, and creamy imitation crab that was like toothpaste. Never again will I visit here, so many sushi options. Try yourself, you’ll laugh.

Just paid $ 16 bucks for salmon nigiri(6 pieces). I haven’t even eaten this yet but that’s outrageous. Your pricing is close to a rack of ribs. Won’t be back here…

Poor service to American looking people if you are Korean or look like you have money you’ll be treated like royalty this place has the worst service ever I wasn’t even given any complementary treats like the other side of table did with free hot tea. I would never spend my money here again and I sure as hell will never tell anybody about this place they charged me for seafood fried rice with two piece of shrimp charged 3+ service here was whack at its worst. Server Couldn’t even speak English. And forgets our order with 4 ppl in the whole restaurant. What a bummer.

Ok folks I concur that the food pricing is outrageous for the mediocre quality. The service was fine, probably because I look Japanese, really. And no I won’t be coming back unless they both dramatically cut their prices and improve their quality. But, let me ask thus question, when was the last time you ate in a Japanese restaurant where *all* of the workers spoke Japanese??? I mean that is rare nowadays, aside from the well-established Sushi Ota.

We live in University City, but the two nearby Sushi places have gone to the dogs lately. We tried this place when we stayed at the Marriott during some home renovations. It is small inside and has an authentic feel to places I have been in Asia. The sushi is fresh and reasonable prices. It’s popular so plan on sitting outside or waiting for a table.

Ok sushi; not great but not terrible. I thought the prices would be lower but they were about average. The Caterpillar roll was very good.

Don’t go to this place!!! The overall rating of this restaurant is not updated! I’m assuming this the restaurant has taken over by new owner and the everything in the menu is overpriced and doesn’t match with the foods level which is super low, you can get better basic sushi rolls in market than this place.

First of all, I’d like to preface this review by saying that I was a really big fan of Subarashi. I would come about once a week for a long time. I even had their number saved on my phone to call in my order and I brought in tons of family members and friends to try my hidden treasure. The music they played was also very laidback and enjoyable every time I’d visit. That being said, I am so disappointed in all the changes they made to their menu. The prices skyrocketed which don’t match the actual quality of the sushi and the place. Their new lunch specials are absurd and very over priced. I am sad to say I won’t be coming back for a long time. I strongly believe I am not the only patron that feels this way. The new management needs to fix these issues otherwise I’m pretty sure I won’t be the only customer they’ll lose. So long, my rockin’ DJ sushi!

So my boyfriend and I are on the hunt for ‘hole-in-the-wall/ghetto-looking’ sushi joints that serve up fresh and delicious food. While Subarashi is tucked away in the corner with the ghetto vibe, this place did not make the list. Now I normally wouldn’t care to write a review on a restaurant that didn’t make the list, but the experience was so offensive, I felt the need to. The first thing that caught my eye was the pricing. Their rolls range from $ 14.99 — $ 24.99(with ~70% of the rolls $ 16.99 and up). Your sushi better be damn good to sell it for that price. They brag about their«Every day, every hour» happy hour of «Buy 2, get 1 free» rolls, but when you break it down, each roll is way more expensive than you’d pay anywhere else. For a quick comparison, Blue Smoke(formerly known as Love Boat), has amazingly fresh and delicious sushi and sashimi for much less. We paid for 3 rolls here at Subarashi, costing us much more than an amazing meal at Blue Smoke(which is actually a nice restaurant for a date). Next, the food. We got the Fantasy Roll, some forgettable roll, and the Baked Salmon Roll. The first 2 were just uncreative, sauced-over adaptions of the California roll with maybe 3 oz. of protein between the two(again, priced at $ 16.99). This brings me to the Baked Salmon Roll. While waiting for the roll, the waitress kindly informed us that it was«still in the oven». It was clear the mayonnaise was past its expiration date, not to mention that the roll was definitely microwaved. The mayonnaise congealed to a nice, booger-y texture, globbed generously over our dry, flaky salmon – all of which fell right off the small, small California rolls. I’m not sure I have anything more to say about the food. «oh my god that was so gross» says George N. Touché, George, touché. The search continues.

Very pricey bad food. Only came here because my friend and we didn’t want to drive in traffic to get some decent Asian food. I got the yakisoba with chicken and she got the ramen with chicken. Both noodles are already $ 10 on its own, you have to add $ 1 for the chicken. The yakisoba was pretty bland and the chicken was super dry. The ramen my friend got was literally shin ramen that you could get in the grocery store for $ 1. This is place is totally not worth your money, it’s best to avoid it if you can.

Went here for lunch around 12:30 and there was only one server for the entire restaurant and she was pretty rude. First turnoff: ridiculously expensive prices(especially considering the quality – and it was lunch) I ordered the ramen, which only comes with veggies(which really is just a few frozen peas, carrots and corn), so you have to pay extra for meat. I got bulgogi in my ramen and it looked and tasted like old gross meat. It was $ 9.99 for the ramen and $ 2 for the bulgogi. And here’s the kicker: I SAWTHEMTAKESTOREBOUGHTRAMENOUTOFTHEPACKAGE(the Korean brand, which costs less than a dollar from the store) and put it in the pot. Are you kidding me?! I just had to pay $ 13 plus tip for something I could have made a thousand times better myself with boiling water for $ 1. WTF. What really pisses me off is that I have that same packaged ramen at home right now. My friend ordered the yakisoba and it was disgustingly oily – ANDALSOCAMEOUTOF A PACKAGE. You must be the worst kind of human to think it’s ok to serve packaged ramen at a restaurant – and to charge such exorbitant prices. Horrifying.

I would have given this place a 3 or 4 until they raised their prices to ridiculous levels. A Sesame Chicken Bento Box, which was OK but nothing spectacular, was $ 8.99 for lunch, which is about what Ki Sushi charges. Now, they want $ 12.99! For lunch. For a freaking Bento Box. They are out of their fucking minds if they think anyone is going to pay that price! Now I’m just waiting until they go out of business and yet another restaurant takes over the space.

oh my god that was so gross At first when I had seen the name that should’ve been enough info to say OMFG. Service: Average and on attentitive Time: We went there around 16:00 ish Food: I got the vege yakisoba Result: I got a pre-packaged yakisoba with some disgusting sweet soy sauce flavor. For those who know Japanese food, stay away from here. GROSS, 素晴らしいマズイ.

came in at like 7:45 and this asian waitress would not get off our backs. Literally hovered over us, constantly pestering us, telling us what to order, actually hurrying us up as if it was 10 minutes before closing, until I had to look her in the eyes and tell her(with a please) not to rush us anymore. Screw you lady.

Great food! Friendly staff. Good service. Food came out very fast! Lunch bento with chicken teriyaki is only $ 7.95, and a good amount of food. I will definitely be coming back here.

We went here for dinner last night, june 13th. Our waitress, Sarah, was super attentive and super fast. Couldnt have asked for better. Food was ok — good prices but the bulgogi i ordered was chewy and was not the right flavor. I did enjoy the aloha roll. The 1 star is for the lack of management and for how poorly we were treated. We(a group of 9 people) each ordered about 2 items each so the bill was definitely hefty. We asked for the large check to be split into three. The waitress came back with all three bills and then claimed we could only use 2 cards. There was no warning when we sat down. No sign in the restaurant whatsoever. Although there were like 5 signs noting that soup is hot. Ok thanks genius. We asked to speak with the manager on several occasions and he refused to come see us. The poor waitress had to play middleman between upset customers and a lack of a manager. We literally stared at him as he kept his head down. We asked if we could meet halfway and allow us to use THREE credit cards amongst 9 people and the manager refused. Finally he said ok so long as we were charged a fee. The waitress decided to swallow the fee for us but at this point we were so annoyed. We appreciated her kindness and trying but the management was so terrible we would never return. Its pretty sad that a decent restaurant will lose so many customers because the manager is unable to do his job.

I give this place 3 stars. Sara our waitress is excellent but I came here with a group of 9 people for the first time. By the time we asked for the check, we asked them to split the check. Most of us did not carry cash so some of us had to pay with card. We were only allowed to split two cards amongst our group. Mind you this was never mentioned to us nor was there any sign that’s stated this around the restaurant. However, we did see it in the check holder. We asked to see the manager but our request kept getting ignored and he did not want to talk to us directly. Finally we were able to add at least one more card so it can be split in 3 ways but that was after going back and forth with the waitress. To top it all off, we had to pay .50 per card to accommodate our request. Long story short, if your going with a big group remember to bring enough cash or just venmo each other cause you can only split the bill using two cards.

My friends and I came here because both Bluefin and Ki Sushi were packed and we still wanted sushi. It was a Friday night(2⁄27) and we got there a good hour and a half before closing. When we arrived, the restaurant was completely empty, so we had to double check if they were still open before dining in. Literally, we were the only table there the rest of the night. Luckily, it was Happy Hour which was similar to all the sushi restaurant happy hours with discounted appetizers/nigiri/basic rolls and BOGO special rolls. — Appetizer: Garlic Edamame(just tasted like butter & soy sauce smothered with the edamame) — Appetizer: Oysters. Boyfriend said they were fresh and tasty. — Negi-toro Handroll: ehh. — Some roll that I forgot the name of but had salmon skin in it? On top? Somewhere but all it tasted like was burnt crispies which was disgusting. I ended up eating the roll while picking off the salmon skin. — Crazy Philly Roll: Decent, would probably come back for this one. — Reggae Roll: It was good except for the eel sauce that they put on top; it didn’t go with the roll at all and really took away from the flavor of fish. The server, Oscar, was awesome and I hope to only be served by him IF I ever go back. The other lady that was working with him, however, was horrible. She didn’t even know the names of the rolls that she was running to us. Oscar had to come and clarify what was what. When it came to the check, we paid part cash and had two cards. My boyfriend went up to the register to tell the lady server how much to put on each card. ***She said, «Why didn’t you write it?» And he replied that we didn’t have a pen. Her response? In a snarky tone, «Well you could have asked.» *** Pertaining to customer service this was very rude and unprofessional! My boyfriend was shocked that she responded in that tone and attitude that it completely downgraded their tip. I don’t even know if she was even trained in customer service but if she was, she definitely needs a refresher! Like really, how is it possible to mess up good service when we’re the ONLY table there? She should have just let Oscar handle it from beginning to end and they probably could have gotten 20% from us just cause we know what it’s like. One star for mediocre food. One star for Oscar(btw man, you need to head to a better place!!!). Last resort sushi restaurant, don’t waste your money here.

The moon super star roll is extremely weird and not tasty at all. Random raw onion are placed on top of the sushi and there’s this weird sauce that came from the raw onions. Ok rolls: sexy roll and the medusa roll. But the medusa roll had potato chips on it. Wtf??? Um potato chips? Really? The salmon tempura was so plain and the salmon inside was dry too. It looked like they just threw on the tempura. It was just plain bad. ALSOTHISGIRLWAITRESSISRUDEASHELL. That’s right Stella, I’m talking to you. Asking us to TIPHEREVENMOREAND telling us HOWWESHOULDTIP. Who does that? She didn’t even fill up my water when it was empty with barely any customers in restaurant… such great service…(I hope you read this — never have I been demanded more tip from a restaurant). Apparently asking and yelling at customers for not paying enough tip is common here. Read the reviews below and see for yourself. This has happened to others as well. Outrageously poor customer service. Definitely don’t recommend this sushi place anymore after this experience. I would honestly order it and take it togo rather than stay there and eat. If possible I would give this place no star. The sushi itself isn’t even that great. Other waiters were chill. But Stella, girl you need some manner lessons. Will be calling for manager to complain.
