I was MORTIFIED when the Bakery was sold then closed for good. :(

Went here today at 5:30 and the place was completely closed. It actually looks out of business.

I’ve been coming to this place for a while and always loved it. I do admit I miss Anna but the new owners are doing just as well. I know they were closed down for a bit do to personal reason so I have nothing to complain about that. Their hospitality is great! The food is great! I always get the grill chicken with an ice tea. All the bread is freshly made the day of also.

With Anna gone and new owners taking over, Boulangerie just isn’t the same. Today I thought I would give the new owners a try since they kept the same menu and I ordered a salmon sandwich, which is usually a full-bodied sandwich with lots of flavor, and today its had maybe a few slices and some capers, tasted bland and Anna used to throw in beautiful veggie chips or ruffle like chips and today I was given tortilla chips! I was shocked with a salmon sandwich and at a french bakery how were tortilla chips even an option? Sprouts is right next door, they could have ran there and got chips. Tortilla chips, come on! Anna we miss you. This place needs to step it up, or Boulangerie is going to go out of business.

Such incredible chicken and pesto panini! Omg! Their sandwiches are all huge and delicious. Pastrami and salami ones were amazing too!

I ordered a Caprese sandwich, which is what I normally go for at most sandwich shops, so I have a few to compare it to. THATBREAD. You’d think the contents inside the sandwich would be the highlight of the meal, but no, it was the bread. It was exactly what a french baguette should taste like. Crisp(but not rock hard) on the outside with a soft and chewy inside. The funny thing is though, they actually scooped out most of the bread inside in order to put the Caprese into the sandwich, though it was still a healthy ratio. Great presentation too. I’ve never seen the layers of a sandwich so beautifully displayed before. Haha. I found it sad that even though we went here around lunchtime, it was totally empty. I feel like this place is too hidden being in the corner of a pretty congested plaza. We actually drove past it twice on the main street because we couldn’t find a sign for it. Wish there was something they could do about that because it’s really a great place to stop by for lunch.

The description for two stars of «Meh. I’ve experienced better» really really fits this place. My biggest pet peeve with restaurants is when they don’t stick to their posted hours. I’ve worked in the restaurant and hospitality business for years. I understand wanting to go home. «There’s only one customer I just wanna close the doors boo hoo.» But I never would because it’s the most disrespectful thing to your customers ever. You don’t make them drive 10 min., 30 min. or hours so they can turn around and go home. I’ve gotten to this place an HOUR before closing and they just tell you leave. My other problem with the place is everyone behind the counter is always in a complete state of confusion. They’re running around and chattering frantically all the while amazingly doing nothing at all. I will say the sandwiches are delicious. I had a hot pastrami and it was good. The bread is fresh and tasty and they give you an awesome amount of meat. But the Ruffles and completely cheap tea selection(bigelow?) just killed it for me. There are plenty of sandwich shops around with sandwiches that are just as good as well as good sides and drink. It sounds like this is under new ownership(confirmation?). So perhaps it’s just the new owner that’s ruining it.

When this place first opened I was in live. Seriously came here every week, sometimes twice a week. Couldn’t get enough. Over the past year I have been so disappointed with the professionalism. The wait time is ridiculous. They are usual out of something. And their dessert case is the most upsetting. Selling Costco items and claiming they were baked fresh is insulting. Who are you kidding? Makes me sad because I had such high hopes for this place. I hope they get their act together. Would hate to see this place fail.

Cute place. Food is prepared very well. Its obvious the owner went to culinary school. The classic plating styles and prep techniques are done well. Good eats! Nom, nom, nom!

My critique is solely constructive and I hope my comments will only help this business because I want all small businesses to succeed. That being said, this review is based on the time it took to get my sandwich. It took 45 minutes for the guy to make my panini. It’s a panini its not a steak. I came in a little before 3 so it wasn’t due to lunch hour traffic. If i was on a lunch hour from work I would not be happy. But the guy making the sandwich was very sweet and apologized for the time. I ordered the chicken panini and it was good. Did not care for the chips on the side. I also heard them tell a lot of customers they were out of items… One suggestion I have is to play some music. It just feels too quite and lonely in this restaurant. I hope this helps and I will be back for a panini I just might call in my order before ahead of time.

This place is amazing! My husband and I discovered it last weekend thanks to these trusty Unilocal reviews and we LOVED it! My husband is from San Francisco aka home of the gourmet sandwiches. Since he moved to SOCAL he has found it impossible to find a sand which that even half way compares. Well as of last weekend we found it at Boulangerie. They have the best fresh baked breads, Aioli’s, and pastries. Me not being a big chocolate lover inhaled two of the most amazing chocolate croissants in one sitting on top of my amazing Turkey sand which with the most amazing basil pesto aioli. OINK! Ana the lady who runs the restaurant is so friendly and really makes you feel welcomed. She is so passionate about the food and shows in the taste and quality! Cant wait to go back!

Arthur G. Woodland Hills, CA 10/29/2012 Too bad there’s no sixth star available to award to Anna and the other wonderful people at The Boulangerie(French for«The Bakery»). Besides a bakery, the Boulangerie Is a small cozy deli in the far corner of the big strip mall at Ventura and Topanga. The food is superb — sandwiches, soups, baked goods — and breads to take home, all homemade from scratch. I’ve tried just a few of the delicious baked goods, as well as just one of the breads, all homemade and great-tasting — but omigod, was I ever smitten by Anna’s heavenly cold-tuna sandwich — lightly-spiced tuna salad on toast, served with an oh-so-good aioli and veggie chips. That sandwich is the likes of which I’ve never tasted before — lots of tuna with a very compatible, gentle, peppery-spice treatment that turns tuna into WOW! I expect that the other menu items are great, but I’ve been hooked on that same tuna sandwich ever since my first visit. The only thing that can beat the food is Anna herself, the owner and perhaps the sweetest person you’ll ever meet — a vivacious, kindly, delightful, caring young wench whom everyone falls in love with on first meeting(I did, too, and I’m almost 70). Anna is in perpetual motion, scurrying around the place, not wasting a single second, and making sure that everyone is treated as well as possible. Go there once, and on your second visit she’ll greet you by name, happy to see you again. Please do not put off going to The Boulangerie, and please tell Anna that Arthur sent you(I’ll get extra brownie points). As you enter, have a look at her two culinary diplomas by the front door. Another nice touch — free Wi-Fi.

A lot of great options for the create-your-own sandwich. I like the variety of chips on the side. Servers were very nice and friendly. Mini cinnamon rolls were too effin’ good. I’d go back for lunch and try other sandwich combinations.

Mmmmm this was a great little place to get lunch! My boyfriend and I wanted sandwiches, but didn’t feel like our usual place, Dan’s Subs, again(As we frequent there often). I Unilocaled, and saw this place! We ended up being in the same shopping area as it and so went over. We both got the Turkey Club and it was VERY yummy! Great aioli sauce drizzled on top, some spiced chips on the side, and big enough to take home half of the sandwich. We also had two mini crème puffs — MMMMGOOD. I am a big crème puff fan. they were so yummy :) Afterward, when paying(spent $ 11.50 for 1 sandwich, 1 soda, and 1 mini puff), the baker gave me a WONDERFUL french bread loaf on the house! Because it was nearing the end of the day and the bread would be going stale anyway, I assume this is why. I will certainly come here to support this locally owned bakery and to buy my bread loaves from now on :) They are truly delicious! Thanks!

3.75 stars. Definition: Boulangerie(noun) a bakery, or a place where bread is sold. I think Justin V. has it all correct. This is a nice little sandwich shop. Upscale sandwiches are served using quality breads, meats and other ingredients. I couldn’t help but think, since this is The Boulangerie, that it would be great to have the smell of fresh baked bread and pastries wafting from their ovens. Apparently, the bread and pastries here are brought in from another bakery. That makes me sad. Yes, my grilled chicken panini was very good. A generous portion of tender chicken with caramelized onions, tomato, and pesto on oversized artisan bread. Brush the outsides with a little olive oil and you have a wonderful bit of heaven here on earth. The accompanying chips are a mish mosh of crisps. Hey Anna, how about going either all Taro or all Ruffles? Consider my vote for the Taro chips. Other sandwiches are similarly attractive, and though I have not tried the home made soups, other patrons rave about them. The Boulangerie’s baguettes are beautiful, crusty and convenient. If you are here for lunch bring one home for dinner. I can’t see making a special stop on the way home, though, especially if you stop by Whole Foods first. The staff gets special props for manning the cash register, going back to the sandwich board, stopping on the way to put plastic gloves on! Bravo! Take note other not-so-clean restaurants: Your patrons are always watching. The Boulangerie’s location in the corner of the Sprouts shopping center is hard to find, and the parking spaces in the large lot are so small I would consider one of those J-Lo Fiat speck-of-a cars if I came here often. The Boulangerie deserves a better location and exposure. Anna obviously is passionate about her Boulangerie. She’s talented. Kick it up a notch, chef! It’s almost like The Boulangerie is scared to take the shop to the next level. A Boulangerie makes bread. Keep it real. Continue your attention to the delicious sandwiches, but consider going up against the big boys and make The Boulangerie a destination bakery AND sandwich shop. That would deserve 4 to 5 stars, and you’d kick the butts of your competition. That’s my advice, FWIW. Just sayin…

Soooooo amazing! Their baguette with fresh mozzarella and basil with yummy olive oil and a balsamic vinegar reduction was so delicious! I did not get the place of meeting the owner, but the guy who made my sandwich was so sweet and truly in love with the art of making food! I cannot say enough positive things about this establishment. …please don’t change… :)

I HATE reviewing places that I LOVE! I really do… because I don’t want anyone to know of my favorite hidden places. But after much deliberation, I decided that I must give Anna the shout out she deserves. This place is amazing! :) I love the food… it’s probably one of the best I’ve ever had. Amazing sandwiches, salads… everything is just top notch. We usually have the Chicken Pesto Panini and Caesar Salad… which is to die for. My mouth is watering at the thought of it right now. The portions are huge… and everything is just sooo tasty. I love the small scale of this place, but if it ever goes out of business… I will be so sad! :( I also can’t help supporting another small business, especially a woman owned one. I know what’s it like to run a business by yourself and she does a fabulous job! Seriously though, Anna is a wizard with food. She makes her own chipotle sauce which is a huge favorite of ours. I just could not recommend this place enough… the food is fabulous, the prices are reasonable and you are treated as family. What more could you ask for! :)
