I don’t think this is the first time I’ve been here. However, it was the first since they changed the name and décor. I can’t get over how good the water was. It may have been the silver drinking cups, or it may have been that I was hungover/dehydrated from partying the night before. Either way, so good. I ordered the yellow curry(vegan) and a side of rice noodles, it was delicious. We also got the fried roll appetizer, also very good. My friends were pretty stoked on their dishes as well. Although. Lori asked for spicy and I think they may have opened the gates of hell to pick the peppers they added. She said it was good but nearly too spicy to eat. Be weary if you order is spicy, you may get what you ask for.

Was really happy to try this new spot. I was craving pad thai and HSFT had great early hours which could assist in satiating my fiendish craving. My experience was a 3 stars(non deflected btw, I’ll be back) really due to a crabby/bitchy waitstaff and not a sloppy-tamarind-more wet pad thai. Portions are big and affordable, great casual lunch spot to go alone or grab take out. Just to note the pad thai was underwhelming simply due to me being used to different prep. So that said, I won’t come back for that dish, but I will try others.

I ordered the Pad Thai with tofu and mixed vegetables to go. I was extremely disappointed to find there wasn’t a single piece of tofu and only one piece of broccoli. The customer service here is horrible. I will not be returning

Seriously THEBESTTHAIFOOD around! Every dish was expertly created and perfectly executed. The Tom Kah was excellent. Por Pia Thot was so good! The curry noodles and drunken noodles were to die for! Eat here if you get the opportunity, you will not regret it!

I’ll start off with the good parts: the service and the décor. The wait staff was really friendly and welcoming and I really liked the décor. Unfortunately, they don’t make up for the lackluster food. I ordered the duck over rice and the rice was cold. I generally prefer warm rice over hot rice anyway, but this was straight up cold. I’m probably being a bit harsh with this review, but come on, how hard is it to serve hot rice? I may give this place another shot, but considering how many actually good Thai places there are in the city, it won’t be for a long while.

I love the new makeover! The old place had an inch of grease all over everything. Been here a couple times so far. This time I had pad see ew chicken and egg rolls. Last time I got Pad-thai and the moo ping pork skewers with sticky rice. Love the sauce that comes with the pork sticks. Yum!

4 star just for their calamari alone! I had their bbq pork/rice dish and it wasn’t bad. The side of roti didn’t come with some sort of sweet sauce sadly. But that calamari tho!

Best of Thai, Hippie Thai’s predecessor, was not the best Thai food in town. But it was cheap and open late, many dishes were under $ 10. When I saw the place had re-opened as Hippie Thai, I was kind of excited to try it out, hoping for better quality and a decent lunch spot in the Haight. Today I decided to, and regret to inform that it is not worth it. –Ordered a hot tea which was $ 1.50, it was very weak tea, on par with tea that is offered complimentary at some restaurants. My server couldn’t even tell me what sort of tea it was, other than being herbal. –Portions are small for what you pay for. Some dinner places can get away with charging $ 10 for curry that doesn’t include rice if it’s fine dining, high quality, etc. With a name like«Hippie Thai», you’re coming off more as a casual lunch spot, and not including rice with a small portion of $ 10 curry is heinous. –I ordered sticky rice to accompany my yellow curry. The curry itself was actually pretty good, creamy and mildly spicey, but the rice was terrible. Not sure if «sticky» was the right word to describe it, perhaps«incredibly chewy, tough, and dry» would have worked better. I paid $ 15 for the picture you see below, not including tip. Will not be back.

We were so disappointed the prices isn’t reasonable, we were orders for 1 combo(Pinto come with 4 containers $ 15) they said if you comes for two people they will charge $ 15 per each and then we were ok with that, we got Pad Thai, Green chicken curry(we found only 6 pieces of chicken in curry), stream mix vegetables, and stream rice(that should not be an entrée, it should be in addition) somehow, we thought we will get more big containers or more quantities but that was not different at all and it so ridiculous!!! The service was ok… But would never come back!

This restaurant used to be Best of Thai, but has recently received a facelift to become Hippie Thai. I really like Thai food and frequent the Haight for lunch. Best of Thai was my last ditch resort in case my preferred Thai spots weren’t open. I was hoping the facelift would bring tastier food, but I actually think it is getting worse. As a matter of fact, I’ve taken about 4 bites of my pad thai and am considering throwing it in the trash. The Thai iced tea I ordered, which is something I usually down within minutes, hit the trash can halfway through. I really wanted to like it, but it was cream heavy and lacked flavor. I just couldn’t justify the calories. Not only is my pad thai lifeless with no flavor, it cost me 2 bucks more for an order of pad thai and Thai iced tea than any other Thai spot in the Haight! I tried one more bite of my meal and have decided it isn’t worth eating. I eat a LOT of Thai food and this is quite possibly the worst representation I have had in the past several years. DONOT waste your time eating here when there are much better Thai restaurants in the Haight.

They don’t honor their hours. Won’t take takeout orders 25 minutes before closing. In general, this is a place you go only when you have no other options.

I have gone here a couple times because of how close it is to me and how quickly they get the food out to you. However, I liked the old restaurant better, Best of Thai, which was recently replaced by Hippie Thai. Since the change, prices have gone up several dollars per dish and I personally don’t find the food worth the cost. Best of Thai was my late night, cheap-but-big-portion place to go. Now, the food tastes the same to me, but they give you smaller dishes. Also, every time I come here, the pad kee mao noodles are clumped together so much, so there are thick bites of noodles that don’t have very good flavor. I think it’s time for me to give this place up.

«Sorry the kitchen closes at 10:15» Really? Then why advertise that you’re open until 11? You can close anytime you want, just be transparent about it and don’t waste our time.

Do not ever freaking eat here! I got food poisoning here and have been miserable! One of the worst pains I’ve ever experienced and this place was the only thing I ate that day. Save yourself the consistent diarrhea and vomiting and chose another place! –You’re welcome.

The service here is pretty appalling. I’ve been here three times now. One time I was ignored for a while before I gave up and left. Another time I noticed I was charged for an item that I didn’t order, and they argued with me telling me that I did. On my last visit I didn’t receive the correct change on my bill. The food is decent for what it is. They should try to get some competent waitstaff. Be sure to double check your bill and count your change.

The BF and I were looking for a quick bite while touring Haight & Ashbury! You can never go wrong with Thai! This place was a hole in the wall, small restaurant serving pretty decent stuff! And you know it’s good when the cook is Thai also! Good portions and strong flavor! We were attracted by the name and left liking the food too!

I think this place used to be a different place whenever i pass this place before it change it names to Hippie Thai. Came here for a late lunch. Small place. Has open kitchen. There were only 2 other customers when i came to have lunch here. I Got their beef noodle soup. $ 10 before tax. Brother got pad thai for $ 10 Average/a little more expensive than same thai restaurants Foods come our hot which is a good thing. They give you decent amount of food when you order. Thought their food were good enough to get you satisfied with thai food Since it wasnt busy restaurant at the time i came, the food came out quick

In these days of gentrification, I’m getting to hate change in my neighborhood. My go-to noodle place was no more. Thankfully, Hippie Thai is even better than its predecessor! The place looks better, the service is improved, and delivery is speedy and accurate. More importantly, the food is even better and the menu is expanded. My favorite: the spicy Pad Kee Mao and the Pad Thai. Prices are still very affordable. Sometimes, change is good! I love their soups most of all.

Please bring back old fried tofu appetizer! And the peanut sauce! The new fried tofu is more like tempura and the dish no longer comes with peanut sauce. If you get an extra peanut sauce, it no longer has the rich flavor and consistency of the previous sauce.

We were just walking down haight street looking for a place to eat, and this one seemed inviting. The pad see ew I ordered was pretty good– the prices we reasonable although the service was kinda slow, considering there weren’t very many people in the restaurant. Not bad, but I’m going to have to try it a few more times and revisit this review. :)
