People are very nice and friendly, excellent haircutting skills and favorable price!

My hair is super curly. I had walked by this place many times reading the the $ 120 Hair Straightening. Fed up with daily straightening, I first tried it out 7 months ago and was really happy with the results. Just had it redone today and am happy once again. I can give me rec!

I like the lady who does the hair cut. She is good and simple person. I have been going there for like 4 years now and can’t expect anything more.

Ask for Ben if your looking for a good haircut for men. I showed a picture on my phone and he cut my hair exactly like the picture. No questions asked. And really cheap 10 $$$$ !!!

Very friendly staff. They were able to get started on me right away when I got there. «Number one on the sides, leave the top,» I said. «And leave the back.» Everything was just cruising until I felt the razor on the back of my head. My mouth opened to scream«STOP!!!» but no sound came out. And as soon as the razor touched my hair, I knew that it was all over. More than 3 months worth of hair growth accumulation was starting to pile up on the floor of Hong Kong Art Salon, and there was nothing I(or anyone, really) could do about it. I was crying on the inside, and very nearly on the outside too. Previous reviewers weren’t kidding when they said that the staff’s English is limited. They did a pretty good job with the rest of my hair. E for effort. I guess I’m blessed to have hair that grows pretty quickly, but I’m still pretty upset. Now the back of my head/neck is feeling a chill that it hasn’t felt in a very long time. Bottom line, make sure you convey EXACTLY what you want, and make sure the staff understands you COMPLETELY.

Okay, this barber literally Ruined my hair for my one of the most important days of my life, my graduation day. I really have no idea how she mess up so bad. My hair is not hard to cut at all. I have short hair. I have no clue how she got her license or if she even have one. This place is a joke. The only reason I went to her is because my usual barber was not in that day and I needed a haircut for my graduation day. I am sorry but she needs to find some other occupation or learn to cut hair.

What can you expect for a $ 10 haircut? Ben was fast, friendly, and a gave a decent haircut, too. Only two things to watch out for: 1) parking meters are enforced on Sundays, and 2) dogs really like to do their business on a tree right in front of the store, so be careful where you step if you park closeby. I saw a lady slip on some fresh droppings.

Dirt-cheap prices and an incredibly nice mom and pop who run this joint. Their English is limited but they’ll definitely understand enough to cover your cut/style request. My parents, brother and I’ve been coming to get our trims and cuts here for as long as I can remember — the owners’ two obedient kids used to play with Barbies, Hot Wheels, and coloring books. These days, I see them working on assignments on their laptops. Little details like this are collateral, of course, but don’t make me smile any less than when I’m hopping off the L and seeing Ling and Ben, the owners, wave to me from their stations inside Hong Kong Art Salon(which, yes, is ridiculously convenient and accessible if you live in the Inner Parkside — literally right in front of the L stop) A trauma-less $ 15($ 12 for a haircut + tip) and I’m in and out in under twenty minutes with a fresh cut that always looks exactly like I want it to. What more can anyone ask for?

I liked this place a lot. It’s been a while since I got a good haircut for as little money as they’re asking for. I gave it four stars instead of five because I like to have conversations with my barber(and this was sadly lacking) but the quality and the price are right so I would definitely recommend this place to friends.

I only come here to see Ben. He’s the best! Can’t beat a quality haircut for just $ 10!

I have being coming here for the past couple months on and off. I gotta say this place is great. It’s well hidden, and I don’t need to go to chinatown for a cheap haircut. Ling and Ben are great! I have gotten haircut for both of them, and really I don’t have a preference. They know how to keep my style the same, without really having to ask much.

The lady there understands what you want and always asks before cutting it a little shorter. … and honestly… where would you get this good service for $ 10…

One of my favorite things about the Sunset is its wide range of cheap and quality services, including barbers. I tried out Hong Kong Art Salon one time when my regular Sunset hair guy was out on vacation. I chose this place primarily for proximity(it being just across the street from where I was staying at the time) and its well-received reviews on Unilocal(all one of them!). Oh yeah, and cost! I stepped in looking confused, as I often do when trying out any new place, and was immediately beckoned to a chair. No wait? No problem! Of course it was about 2 in the afternoon on a weekday… I’m not much of a talker when I get my hair cut, but my barber/stylist was friendly enough. He also did a great job on my hair(I’m pretty easy when it comes to getting my hair cut. I just ask that you don’t f%$# it up – and BELIEVEME, I’ve had some HORRIBLE haircuts in my day. But f$#& it up he DIDNOT!). I left extremely happy and not with a hole burned in my pocket. I paid about $ 15 total($ 10 for the haircut plus a $ 5 tip; I’m happy to tip well when my barbers do a good job… not like at most of those chain stores — sometimes I wonder how they even exist in the Sunset with so many better one-off barbers out there). Definitely worth a try if you’re in the area and need a good, cheap haircut!

im probably the only non-chinese guy who comes here; but they do a good job so why not? this place is a block from my office, the owners are EXTREMELY nice and although the preferred language is probably cantonese, they never have a problem with me holding a conversation in english. i was a bit discouraged my first time coming in(think«hong kong art salon?») but have been coming here for the past few months and they have always been consistent and inexpensive. the price at 10 $ helps becuase i get my haircut almost weekly(i like to stay fresh! thanx jersey shore!) so i usually cant justify much more for a simple trim and edgeup. all together, a nice family owned neighborhood business. they usually get you in and out in about 20 minutues, so perfect for lunch breaks!

This place has been around for a while so I figured it’s time someone wrote a review. I like this place. It was conveniently close to home. I used to get a hair cuts here every 3 – 4 weeks in high school. Hair cuts are just 10 bucks. Both the male and female barber were consistent and did a good job. They were friendly, even though I spoke very little Cantonese. After high school, I joined the Marines and moved to San Diego. I’m required to have short hair all the time so I just shave my own head. While visiting home(San Francisco), I left my clippers in SD, so I visited this shop again. The lady recognized me after a 4 year absence and did a good job shaving my head =)
