their fried chicken is as good as any place in the City. definitely more of a take-out place than sit down restaurant, and it’s cash-only and usually a wait… and for good reason. why this place only has 3-stars is an example Unilocal users low-balling a place; it’s one of those places on Unilocal that you shouldn’t pay attention to the overall rating. get in, order your food, and get out.

I have absolutely no idea why Cheung Hing(2 blocks down) has people lining up all the time, while this place gets little to no customer everytime i been there… i know Cheung Hing is famous for their roast duck but the duck here is good too… i tried it with my friends and family and they all thought it’s good. i also tried some of their other dishes(釀三寶) for some potluck and it was swept clean… good price MUCH friendlier service than Cheung Hing too.

I came here to pick up food for a friend of a friend of a friend… of a friend. Hi, 1lb of chow mein please. fills container. Umm, is this 1lb? yes, 1lb and a little more. How much? $ 2.95. $ 2.95?! That’s it?! I’m not sure how the food tastes but $ 2.95 for a pound of chow mein is dirt cheap.

GREAT spot for a cheap $ 6 lunch. I gave them 3 stars because that’s what their name is… Duh. Tip: The nice lady behind the counter will put your lunch in a styrofoam container and ask you if you want it heated up. Don’t do that. Heat it up separately when you get home if possible.

Started coming to 3 Star back when it was still a grocery store. Now that it is no more and decided to open a restaurant instead, the selection of food is also very limited.

Delegating. When I saw the name I wondered if my Unilocal had already been written for me. Choose from a selection of not so good for you hot food trays or a cut from one of the chickens hanging along the window. Three and change got me a half pound of BBQ’d chicken. Having the lady chop it up for you comes at no additional charge. Watching is perhaps the best part. Neither amazing nor disappointing. Late that evening filled out a burrito nicely. Three stars it is. Thanks for doing some of the work Three Star!(and thanks for the chicken)

After one bite of Three Star’s crispy, greasy, salty, jalapeño-infused, spicy, green onion-laden chicken wings, I realized that my next-day’s potluck contribution had already been determined for me. Five pounds of the wonderful, thirst-inducing wings cost round $ 20, which seems like a bargain. Little advance notice was needed(20 minutes) for the order either. If this is what Three Star wings taste like, my taste buds will be blown when I finally encounter five star wings.

We come here for chow mein, chicken drumsticks and all sorts of quick food for alot of people. It helps if you order in advance, but a number of times we have just walked in and bought all their chicken or broccoli beef or whatever. I would say their fried chicken drumsticks are the best in SF. We used to come here every other week to pick up food for Sunset Ministry on Noriega and 37th, but now we got more people who cook.

We come here to buy trays of food, and most of the time, it’s been the large fried chicken drumsticks. We consider them«hormone injected» drumsticks because of the size. They are at least twice the size of the KFC chicken legs! Prices are very reasonable. You can either order off their menu, dishes like noodles or fried rice, and they will make it fresh. You can also order from the«deli» in the front of the store. They have roast duck, BBQ pork along with prepared food that they sell by the pound, which includes the above mentioned drumsticks, chow mein, veggie dishes, etc. If you order larger quantities like 5+ lbs. or more, you should order ahead of time. All the food I’ve order from the deli has been pretty good. The service is adequate. The lady who dresses up really nice is the owner(I think), and she will try to upsell you, but it’s not bad compared to other places. Just tell her that’s all you want or as I do, «I don’t have enough money.» Cleanliness? I don’t think it’s all that clean — they used to have a fly strip that attracted and killed flies(they got stuck on the strip), but I don’t remember seeing it recently. Just order, eat, and don’t think about it too much :D

Only reason why I came here to know how many stars I should give. That’s all. It’ll be funny giving 1 or 4 stars. I was hoping 1 star to make my review more interesting, so I get flagged and removed later. But the food was, a-ok. Nothing was bad. There was a lady, she was very nice. But nothing spectacular. It’s a regular so so cheap chinese. You might say I had better feeling. I didn’t know that the area, Noriega Street, became another China Town. Or, should I say Asian Town? There is a Safe Way cross the street. I think the New Maywha market should take the place. But why the street is so filthy? Really. and smelly too. it smells something sour. Where the smell come from? It was pretty bad. When Asian takes over a street, the street become dirty. I wonder why?

After going there many times now, I have to say my favorite selection out of the warming pans are the mushrooms stuffed with seasoned fish cake. Juicy! Still have never seen anyone actually sit down and eat there. I’ve also picked up catered food(fresh cooked) and the basics are quite edible. You don’t have to just pick food out of the warming pans. You can order off the menu and wait like a normal restaurant, unlike those places on Clement.

The best thing about a friend’s bridal shower was the fried chicken! Seriously. surrounded by 20 – 30 girls in dresses, flowers, and boxes of lingerie I was gorging on fried chicken. eating them with my fingers! I found out later this place is where they got the goods from. So my friend and I came to the area on a mission cause the directions we got were kind of vague… we didn’t really have a name just a description. The first place we went to we sat down, they served us water, and my friend got this look. Its the wrong place! We were ghetto and just left. Finally a couple blocks later we found the place! The place is more of a … to go place but there still was seats. So we sat our butts down and fulfilled our cravings: D

I’m writing this review based on an excellent bowl of roast duck noodle soup. I’ve been stiffed many times by Cheung Hing with scrap pieces of duck in rice plates, noodle bowls, and even half-duck orders — either extremely fatty or bony pieces. Three Star served an excellent, gangsta portion of duck noodle soup with the best cuts of duck. Large, glistening meaty chunks of goodness. The broth could have used a bit more flavor, but for the price it’s definitely earned a spot on my food rotation.

Backstory — a good gf of mine had a bridal shower in Sept 2010, and her auntie came HERE To pick up some fried chicken legs, a huge platter of them… and at the bridal shower, my BFF and I shared 3 legs, and even brought some home… it was tasty COLD or HOT! since then we have been trying to track this place down!(asking our gf to ask her auntie, and even harassing the bride’s sister… lol) needless to say, we FINALLY Found out it was this place. and we decided to save our bellies(and dresses) for after the wedding… so we finally made it out this month! haha. that being said… Yum yum in my tum tum! come here for CHINESEFRIEDCHICKENLEGS. these will be the bestest drumsticks in your life. there’s no sauce, no frills, just plain non-greasy, fried chicken legs. Whoa. we craved it for a month, and it did not dissapoint! (NOTE: 1 lb of legs = 3 drumsticks. they sell by the pound instead of by the piece) — fried chicken wings — eh… same flavor, but somehow, i love the drumsticks more. I usually like wings better cuz they are crispier, but not here! — VEGETABLECHOWFUN — it’s pretty much«BEEFCHOWFUNWITHOUTBEEF»… there’s no gravy to it. but it’s tasty! — eggplant with tofu — blah… this was ordered in an attempt to get some veggies in with our chicken, but it was tasteless… with all this food ordered, we still ordered more drumsticks for home, and the whole meal came out to less than 30 bucks. Mmm… I’ll be back for the fried chicken drumsticks! :D Cheap and Good! I’m glad you’re far from home, otherwise I would never run enough miles so I could enjoy this place. :P

I should’ve listened to my gut feeling that this place wouldn’t be very good. There is never a line here and even though the people are nice the food just wasn’t very good. I got the chow mein and fried chicken legs. The chow mein was very bland to the point of being inedible. The fried chicken was okay except that the drumsticks were huge. I felt like Fred Flinstone and like each drumstick weighed a pound. I think the chow mein had been sitting there awhile. This really makes me miss living in the richmond district and how you can walk out onto Clement street and have your pick at cheap good Chinese food.

Kim W. got this for us for our«CHEFSVS. CITY» competition. Liver & hearts take & look like BBQ pork yummmm. It looks reddish/pinkish like BBQ pork too. Intestines are way better and tastier than the kind my dad makes. These ones don’t taste very intestine-y, it’s a bit spicy, but they are good. It was hilarious watching friends(opposing teams) gag when eating this, but Kim W. & her teammate & my teammates ate it without too much trouble. I guess our friends aren’t very Chinese enough to eat it.

Oh Three Star Restaurant, you are too humble. I think this place is a little more than 3 stars, i wouldnt give them 4 stars… but i cant give them 3.5 so 3 it is! Cause’ thats what youre called! If you like really asian foods, this is the place to go! It’s as china as it gets here with pigs blood, intestines, duck hearts and gizzards. DELICIOUS! and its not just because they have these things here, its because they actually make them good. I wouldnt necessarily call it a restaurant, more like a panda express type, but I still wouldnt stay and chow. The place could look a little nicer/comfortable and then maybe i’ll consider eating inside.

Should I give 3 stars to Three Stars Restaurant? I don’t think so. I used to come here for lunch when I went to Lincoln High and ordered the fried rice to go. If memory serves me right, it was way way better back then and everything seemed fresh. Even their pork BBQ was tasty. Came here a few weeks ago with my kids after playing basketball at Sunset Rec and expected it to be the same. But just by looking at their food, everything looked stale and old. The fried rice(which used to be the bomb) looked like it’s been sitting there for days collecting oil. I was shocked and awed… I was mortified. Needless to say, we went somewhere else. They should rename it One Star Restaurant; cuz that’s what I’m giving you.

This is the place my mother gets her roast pork($ 4.90/lb)– the kind with the crispy skin. On several occasions, my cousins have noted how lean the roast pork was. I would have to agree. After moving out of the Sunset area, I have seen the horrors of roast pork and the thick layer of fat that the stores consider OK. Well, I certainly don’t.
