I’ve eaten at this restaurant a couple of times with my parents. We ate here today. We had chicken(see pic), shrimp and fried egg noodles, and a large pot of wonton. It was a nice meal. I like visiting Chinatown and eating at restaurants like this. I also had a milk tea with tapioca. A simply good traditional Chinese meal and also Happy Chinese New Year!

Ordered Honey Walnut Shrimp, OX seafood fried rice and chicken. Shrimp too soft and taste old, same as the chicken, hard to chew but the fried rice was decent. Food: 2⁄5 Customer Service like all chinese restaurant but they make you tip them which is fine. But if you dont tip as much as they want they will demand more tipping, in which case its rude especially when the service wasnt that great and the food was horrible. CS: −1÷5 I give this restaurant 1 star and will never come back again. Horrible food and horrible experience.

Good place for jook. Really tender pork giblets in the jook. Not fancy, but it isn’t supposed to be. It is a local place.

I brought my friends here for the New Year’s weekend. I’ve been here before, so I know what to expect. Just letting you guys know, this place is not the cleanest… as expected. Also the service ain’t the greatest… as expected. Finally, they don’t speak English(you can get by with english) very well as expected. So, prepare if you decide to come! We had the congee with fried chinese donut, beef with scrambled eggs, pork chop baked rice with tomato sauce, and shrimp baked rice with white sauce. We also tried their Hong Kong milk tea which was pretty good. The portions are on the larger side — you’ll definitely get stuffed with the baked dishes. I didn’t like the shrimp one, it had a funny taste to it — sadly my friend got food poisoning later that day! The congee was pretty typical, can’t really go wrong. The pork dish was OK, we’ve definitely had better. Overall, this place is just OK, but definitely cheap.

obviously the wantons in the ‘roast duck wanton noodle soup’ are either expired or whatsoever, it does not taste fresh at all. I finished about 1⁄5 of the soup, they charged me $ 9, but kindly enough offered me a free bread witch cost about $ 1. will not stop here again for sure.

My boyfriend and I ordered the spare ribs over rice and after a couple of bites I didn’t want to eat it anymore. The plate hardly had any meat and mostly vegetables. It wasn’t satisfying. This place sucks

Food: I tried one of their Thursday daily specials, the beef chow fun. The noodles stuck together in lumps and there wasn’t much beef. It’s also very oily. The daily specials are about $ 8 and comes with a drink. I picked an iced ovaltine drink. The bottom of the drink was hot/luke warm while the top with the ice is cold. I also tried their pineapple buns from their bakery. They have 3 «mini» buns for $ 1.50. Pretty standard, just satisfied my craving. I’m not too picky with these Hong Kong style cafes but this was a pretty disappointing.

Came here after doing some paperwork at the Taiwanese embassy a block away — bakery in front, and tables in the back. Ordered some rice porridge with liver and gizzards and it was pipin’ hot and delicious. Not too salty and not too watery, just the way I like it. With complimentary coffee or HK milk tea, this place is casual, quick, cheap and cozy for those who love the Chinatown ambiance of old chinese man putterin’ around getting their breakfast.

I normally don’t write reviews but this one is pretty bad. I feel as if the waitress was strong arming us to give more in tips. The service wasn’t worth the tip that we gave. When we tried to get her attention to get a bowl, she gave us a dirty look and also took a while for her to get to us. Also she didn’t seem friendly at all, but it’s what to be expected in Chinatown. The thing that pissed me off was the fact that when we paid our bill, she was standing over us and when we gave her a tip commensurate of the service, she insisted that we give her one more dollar since ‚“we had two adults so it’s a dollar per adult.” WTF? Really? Not ever going their again, even though my sister and I know the owners daughter. Sorry, but with a wait staff like that, no thanks, and I’m probably going to tell my friends about the service and her attitude.

Not what it used to be. It’s been a few years since I stopped by WB&R. Not only was the food much worse than what I remember, but the prices were expensive. Mum and I stopped by for an early lunch on Friday. We were trying to beat the lunch crowd. We ordered two dishes to share and Mum got a hot milk tea. The first was ginger scallion lo mein. The waitress didn’t bring the soup that was supposed to come with the lo mein. We didn’t bother since the noodles were already a bit saucy from the hoisin sauce. We also ordered a wonton, fishball ho fun. The broth had no taste at all and was incredibly bland, leaving everything else to be bland especially the rice noodles. The wontons were not that great and barely had any shrimp inside, mostly fatty pork. When we asked the waitress for extra small bowls, since we were sharing, she flat out ignored us. We ended up having to ask a different waitress. The first waitress didn’t come by when we also asked for tea refills. In the end, the tab came out to be $ 22. Pretty steep for what we ordered. There wasn’t even any meat on the lo mein for it to cost $ 9. For what we ordered, prices incredibly high compared to other cha chan tangs. I wasn’t so bothered by the price, as I was with the waitress with attitude and bland/untasty food. Will skip this place from now on.

I’m not a fan of heavy breakfast food, really. My roommate and I decided to try congee for the first time and it did not disappoint! Try the shredded roast duck porridge, it’s so good. The food isn’t heavy but it is very satisfying and left us feeling relaxed and pleasantly full.

Visited here for the 1st time yesterday after researching reviews and decided to order the wonton noodles, baked pork chop over rice, and the vermicelli noodles. It was seriously the best authentic Chinese meal we’ve had in a while, at least in the US! It tasted authentic to Hong Kong style and I’m already wanting to go back again before we leave SF. The wonton noodles were so flavorful and so was the baked pork chop over rice. The vermicelli noodles lacked a bit of flavor but all in all, it was still good. Def going to go back and try some other dishes. Highly recommend this place if you want to have authentic Cantonese style dishes!

Oh my god, I thought I would never find this restaurant on Unilocal as my brother did everything in his power to try to get me to magically forget this place. When I was in San Francisco, this is the first place my brother brought my parents and I to eat. Let me say it was absolutely disgusting. The first thing I saw when inside were roaches and with all the available seating they had to put us in the most crammed space right next to other people. We ordered the Pork Chop Rice Lunch Special Chicken Fried Rice Lunch Special Bitter Melon w/Beef Rice Lunch Special Chinese Brocolli The lunch special was $ 5 and comes with your choice of Tea, Coffee or Soy Milk. Let me start off by saying the fried rice was anything but fried. It could pass for mixed rice or wet casserole but NOT Fried. The Pork Chops were really off, tasting more like mushed soggy meat. I mean for all I know, it was more like a discarded food from other customers but reheated by boiling. Enough said. When I wanted another small cup of Soy Milk, they charged $ 3. If I knew that I could have got another lunch special… well maybe not. The only reason I would come back is not to eat but because how they put the rice on the plate is actually very amusing. ;-)

Good food and good service up until the end– Having had minimal service from a short but polite server, we left a small tip and were abruptly(and loudly in front of everyone in the restaurant) told to leave a bigger tip. Ben W is not kidding, this actually happens. While my mother obliged out of embarassment, I find this practice(I’m sure this isn’t the first time) to be horrendous and rude and worth no more than one star.

This is my go-to place to eat in ChinaTown. *Food: I got the Wednesday Special = Curry Chicken Rice Plate This Chinese Curry is odd. I like it but it is different than other curries I have had before. This curry is more yellow and slimy. It is not as flavorful BUT if you add a little bit of that Chinese Red Chili Sauce, the taste is so much BETTER. The chicken though, it is good. The chicken is soft and I like it! There are potato and onion slices and the potato is really good. It does not just taste boiled or steam but it was marinated. *Service: The lady that served us was RUDE. It felt like she was hating her job. lol She was like«What do you want? What? You want what?» lol. Rude lady. BTW…I ordered a glass of soy milk and the cup was DIRTY. There was previous drink stains and it was NOT pleasant.

I passed by this restaurant couple times before, finally had a chance to try it out; and I have to say that I haven’t had a chance to use the phrase«extremely disappointed» in a while to describe Chinese dishes that I eat. Came here on a Saturday around 1pm; the restaurant was only about half full. The environment is considered fairly clean and tidy compared to average Chinatown restaurants. Thought it was a good start. -) Steamed Shrimp Rice Roll(蒸蝦腸): B-. The rice roll was made very thick. If you do a cross section I would say the rice roll itself consumed 90% of the thickness. And the shrimp was not only small in size but also there were only very few of them. Shrimp was obviously not fresh at all. -) Baked White Sauce Seafood Rice: C. You can see from the picture I took, this baked rice dish was extremely watery. I almost wanted to ask whether they have done cooking it or not. Couple of reasons could lead to this: 1. Amount of cheese they put was at a minimum. 2. Scallop — which needs special handling because it holds a lot of water in the body, should be fully dried before cooking it. I’m pretty sure they did not do that. Shrimp was again small and tasteless. The rice was just covered with water. -) Iced Milk Tea: B-. Watery, not so much taste in it. A very unsatisfied meal. I don’t think I will come back again.

4 stars for the food. But 2 stars for the after effects. The menu is typical of a Hong Kong diner — a mixture of Eastern and Western. Atmosphere: Washington Bakery & Restaurant is the epitome of a dingy Cantonese restaurant in Chinatown. With extremely low standards of décor and probably cleanliness, this place should’ve been questionable from the start. Customer Service: The typical Chinese no-nonsense attitude of service but nothing spectacular in other areas such as efficiency either. Food: Here’s where I’m torn. We ordered a Portuguese Chicken Rice Bake along with Beef Ho Fun. Both dishes are absolutely delicious and packed full of flavour. I was pretty addicted to the Portuguese Chicken Rice Bake and couldn’t get enough! Unfortunately, later in the day I developed a pretty awful stomach ache and had food poisoning(was the only thing I’ve eaten so far so it couldn’t have been anything else). A damn shame, because the food was delicious and would’ve easily gotten a 4 stars from me. Additionally, considering how there are other reviewers who have also experienced health issues following visits to Washington Bakery, I would probably avoid coming back.

Oh geez, stay as FAR away from this place as possible! Seriously. After hitting all the tourist spots and failing to get any egg tarts from Golden Gate Bakery, we were all hungry. My aunt wanted to take us to a chinese place she always goes to, but they were closed for good and under remodel for a new restaurant. We then tried to go to ABC Café across the street and again, it was closed! Just our luck. Walked around and she decided to stop by Washington Bakery & Restaurant. I tried the assorted meat rice noodle, baked fish and porkchop in cream sauce over rice, and satay beef chow fun dry. ALL were horrible, lacked flavor. tasted so plain. Café food for a little pricier than what it should be. On top of that, the place was really dirty. Money was thrown on the counter(we were sitting right next to the cashiers office). We saw a waitress behind our table sneeze in one of her hands, then took a napkin to wipe her mouth and threw the napkin on the counter. We all sat there in awe, disguisted not wanting to eat anymore. On top of that, the other table we were with had one order that they forgot to make. so we had to wait a while to get that order. Bought 20 egg tarts from the bakery and the crust was more soggy than flakey. RUNNN!!!
