Sadly, the recession did what recessions do and Underdawg is no more. it’s Seattle’s loss. I will miss them

Record stores are in my blood as a former record clerk and longtime vinyl collector. Underdawg has a descent record section that’s reasonably priced. While Bop Street in Ballard has racks and racks that look insanely impressive, there are so many duplicates and the owner is a creeper. Rob at Underdawg is awesome in his music knowledge in so many facets of the musical world and always makes you feel welcome.

How can a place sell records without letting people listen to them? Boo on Silver Platters and Easy Street! Underdawg has a great back area where you can listen to vinyl on their two turntables. Their prices are comparable and even cheaper than the other stores in the area. Just because the other stores reseal their records in plastic doesn’t really mean they’re worth paying more for. I did find some awesome records here. «Little Cindy» reciting a creepy prayer, William S. Burroughs reading over drum and bass, hilarious rap records, whale sounds, etc. As with anything worthwhile, you’ll find some gems if you invest the time. At least Underdawg gives you the opportunity to find them a little more easily.

Prices are reasonable(cheap in some cases). The selection is eclectic and extensive. They came through when we were looking for a copy of «Heavy Metal». Rock on!

Actually, I was looking for a used book store. But oh well, I opened the door to this place and they were playing some pygmy chant music instead of the new Presidents CD. That’s different. So I browsed around a bit. A nice funky place with friendly people who don’t think they’re too hip for you, or at least if they do they keep it to themselves. Hey, I can appreciate discretion in disdain. I understand they pay good prices for used CDs, but they also charge fair prices for what they’re selling. In fact, the value shelves are literally overloaded with bargains. How do they do it? Not my problem really, I’m just happy to get a real CD for less than a download. A 1964 Art Blakey reissue somehow leapt into my hand and I obligingly paid for it. But not, you know, a lot.

A great little find tucked away on lower Queen Anne that has some true gems if you spend some time looking. I collect alot of old vinyl LP’s, and have found some real classics here. This place is a bit spendier than some others, but they do have clearance boxes full of records, some of which are in great condition if you are willing to spend the time to look through the not so great ones. Lots of hard to find Beattles and other rare collectibles can be found here. Fairly sizeable collection.

Good selection and newly expanded record section. The emphasis at this store is on quality, so there’s a lot of really good music in here. According to the staff here, this store will soon host live in-store events in the back room. Knowledgeable, friendly staff.

They don’t have a lot of good prices, and while I like the selection I can usually find some of the stuff they had way cheaper. It’s worth a stop in, sometime — but don’t go out of your way.

Small used CD and DVD store. The selection is rather limited compared to Easy Street which is just around the corner; but can we really compare the two, I mean Easy Street is A+…and CD Trader… well…isn’t. One good note… they do have old school posters, not a large selection, but they just may have the one you’re looking for. Also, on Wednesday’s buy 5 used CD’s at $ 5.99+ you get one free… always looking for deals, check them out on Wednesday. Cheers!
