Worst BBQ I’ve ever had in my life. The ribs were so burnt that the meat was as hard as the bone. The deli meat(brisket) wasn’t evenly heated, and lacked any hint of being barbecued. The pulled chicken was okay, but after tasting the other«BBQ» I decided to skip lunch and trashed the entire plate.

Very good brisket and pulled pork. The sides are mediocre but the meat is tasty and the portions are hearty. Great sweet tea too.

What a disappointment. Expensive leftovers reheated in a microwave. Dry and old tasting beef ribs and fatty dried out brisket.

I was really needing a meat fix so decided to give Down Home a try. Really disappointed. I love bbq… all styles, but have a hard time with bbq joints that douse their meats in sauce. And not even really good sauce. The beans tasted like they came right out of the can(with some meat scraps thrown in to make it look homemade) and the cole slaw was watery and tastless. I had high hopes, but alas… guess I’ll drive to Tucson next time.

Not good, expensive and they microwave their food. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Outstanding. An oasis in the(high) desert. I admit — I was skeptical. The variety on the menu made me wonder, but the sandwiches are terrific, and the BBQ is just flat-out delicious. Enjoy without hesitation.

NOTGOINGBACKFORSURE! I We saw bad reviews on Unilocal before we went there. But we want to give a chance to family owned local business so we went there. I ordered BBQ chicken which I thought was dried quartered BBQ chicken but it turned out pulled chicken mixed with BBQ sauce. It tasted as if it was leftover pulled rotisserie chicken mixed with BBQ sauce and heated up in the microwave(which I would usually make it at home when I have leftover and lazy to cook). Beef briskets was a joke, and it was not even close to brisket(my boyfriend said it should be rated as zero star for brisket). Baby back ribs was edible, will give one star for that. They don’t even give us free slices of bread(if you have been to Rudy’s BBQ you know what I mean). Collard green and corn on the cob was edible, We spent about $ 34 including the tips(ordered one order of two meats and one side and one order of half a rack of baby ribs with corn on the cob with just one drink). I can go to Rudy’s and get plenty of meat, bread, and sides with their generous complimentary bread(which I usually asked them to give me us four slices instead of half a loaf of bread) for $ 27 for two and we can bring the left over home. I know I am not in Texas but did not expect this place to be this bad. Also there was one other customer there, he took his chicken back to the counter and said the chicken was raw and he said to us that«the food here is so bad», while we were waiting for our food to come out. They have other choices in their menu so if you want to give them a chance, try the other stuffs but not briskets or BBQ chicken.

Extremely overpriced. Fatty barbecue. My husband couldn’t believe the price for lunch $ 35 when all we ordered was BBQ sandwiches. Our food was served on a tray with no basket or plate, like they were skimping on everything. Napkins were cheap and didn’t hold up. Inside of the building is hot and the lights weren’t even turned on. Staff was rude and everything cooking was hidden behind a big wall. I won’t be coming back. I’ll make my own BBQ if I have that craving again.

First time here. I’ve lived in the Deep South and ate BBQ three times a week, and I’ve traveled around the country eating BBQ in every region. Today I ordered the spare ribs and beans. Beans were very good with just enough spice and cooked perfectly. Spare ribs were exactly the right kind of tender and the meat had a good smoky flavor. Sauce was a bit bland for my taste but still good,(I prefer sweeter and spicier). It takes hours to smoke ribs properly and it’s difficult to keep them from drying out before they get served. Well, Down Home BBQ did it right. I will be returning to try more items and will update this review.

INSHORT: Skip this place. I’m giving this place a 2. I drove by on Saturday and was attracted towards the smoker fired up letting off a nice mesquite smell. I went for dinner on Sunday, the smoker was not running. Service was slow. The pictures of the food on the wall were not very flattering. I thought the prices were high but decided to wait and give it a try. I ordered a two meat combo and was overcharged $ 2. I didn’t say anything. The counter is blocked off so you can’t really see them preparing your food. The woman on the register was nice, likely the owner. The one preparing the food was new. I waited 15 minutes and my food was ready. Over-sauced and microwaved. How could I tell, you might be wondering? It had hot spots and cool spots and with no grill fired up… how else is it going to be reheated. It even had a little microwave flavor, like when it’s over cooked. The cole slaw was not fresh. Likely made the Friday before. Overall, just not good. It could be a whole lot better. I would never go back. This is coming from someone who has lived in and experienced real BBQ of North Carolina, Kansas City, and Texas. If you’re left wondering where to go in Sierra Vista, I’d suggest Texas Roadhouse.

Tried them for the first time today. Excellent mac and cheese. Moist, flavorful fried okra. Fantastic, juicy, tender pulled pork. The other reviews I have seen with a negative slant are in two categories: 1.) Cheapskate Sierra Vista/Fort Huachuca types(look, if you want homecooked food that isn’t from a chain, you’ll have to spend more than $ 3.99 a meal, dude). 2.) People judging the interior for what the place isn’t(It isn’t a sit down place. It is a take out/lunch counter BBQ place). So, if you aren’t choosing your food based on whether or not it is dirt cheap, and you don’t expect a BBQ place to seat you like Tavern on the Green, and what you expect is a great BBQ meal at lunch or to take home, you’ll really like this place.

Terrible BBQ. I eat a lot of BBQ all over the country and this was some of the worst I have tasted. Too much sauce(that was terrible without any real flavor), no wood smoke flavor, and the sweet tea was horrific(spit it out). This place is pricey too(~$ 10 for a sandwich). Do not waste your time. I won’t again.

The smell of BBQ caught our attention when we were searching for another restaurant on Saturday. The«other» place wasn’t open for lunch so it was Down Home BBQ! The owners are friendly and serve up fantastic food. We were expecting little sandwiches on regular buns and were quite surprised to get foot long subs on toasted bread with wonderful BBQ meat spilling out. One chicken. One pork. «Girl Scout Style», he told us. We wanted mild sauce! Both excellent and we loved the bread. Great brewed iced tea made for a perfect lunch spot. I hope these guys do well. They are just off Fry road one block. Stop in. You will not be disappointed!

You know the BBQ will be good when there is a pile of mesquite wood outside. The service staff were friendly and helpful with questions about the menu. The portions are large and cooked to order. We had a ½ chicken, 2 brisket meals, and pulled pork sub with sides of cornbread, greens, cabbage, and corn on the cob. Everyone was extremely pleased with their meals. The meat was tender and juicy and the sauces accompanied well. The mustard sauce is tangy and sweet. I enjoyed the spicy BBQ although it wasn’t spicy. Oh and the sweet tea is made right! Fried cabbage rocked!
