Ok so one star. Yeah most reviews are 1 or 5 but let me tell you why… We were visiting Silverton, CO which has several decent places to eat for being a small mountain town. All the good places close early here, but not the pickle Barrel. After a 6 hour hike in the mountains our family was ravished and looking for a place to eat. We were eagerly greeted by the whole staff and we were the only customers in the place. This should have been the first sign to not eat here. We sat down and right away I noticed how expensive the food was on the menu for basic foods. The waiter or waiters immediately wanted to take our picture, linger around, and pry into our personal lives… way beyond the welcome to small town hello talk. After our meal one of the host said«I guess I shouldn’t mention the „D“ word», he meant dessert but who says that in such context?! Then after we said no and declined, he said«look at her she could eat 2 or 3 desserts» was he trying to get the kids to throw a fit? Weird. We left with such an uneasy feeling that maybe the staff collects the customers in their sleep from their hotels rooms or RVs. Our family was ready to leave after a brief encounter with the staff «One two the pickle barrel is coming for you» «Three four better lock your doors» Eat anywhere else and it will be much better

Prompt service but the food was bad. Ham and cheese croissant was dry with all ham and hardly any cheese. Sweet potato fries were cold. Mentioned bad sandwich to the staff and was offered no resolution.

We stopped in here for lunch(4 Adults). I was craving a burger so I ordered the Kobe beef burger($ 15) My buddy followed suit. Both very disappointed! Over-priced, under-flavored experience. We also had to pay extra for fries($ 2 per) Our wives ordered salads(fried ravioli on top) and it was a joke! The lettuce was not fresh and there was no dressing on the salad. They had to ask for sides of dressing. I am usually very forgiving with the service and food when it’s my first experience eating somewhere. Every person and place has a bad day but I can not over look this experience. After spending $ 70 + and knowing we would’ve eaten better at Wendy’s…BUYERBEWARE!

I grew up working in a town smaller than this in the restaurant industry. That’s no excuse. This place is amateur at best. Run. Go find a gas station and get a microwave burrito. You’ll thank me later. It also smells.

The flies love this place. Had the Reuben sandwich, bread was burnt and no flavor. Arby’s makes a better Reuben.

So, you hop off the train, hit the dusty streets of Silverton, and decide to get something to eat. You, along with the hundreds of other tourists desperately rush into the nearest restaurant, anxious for a table. Just make sure that you choose something other than The Pickle Barrel. Underwhelming service mixed with sub-standard food is waiting for you. Expect your waiter to come and check on that meal they dropped off? Not a chance. Poor service, poor food. Go elsewhere.

They have gluten free menu options!!! And decent wine! Was not expecting that here in such a small ski town. Everyone was super friendly and knowledgable about gluten contamination. If you have a gluten allergy, this place is for you! Plus I had a good glass of wine.

Like I’ve said before, the cute little town of Silverton is seriously in need of a good restaurant, and I fully acknowledge that if you’re out for a food tour, this is not your town. Having said that, here’s my two cents: From the outside, you’d think you were in for a great atmosphere, but then a dude in a sloppy tshirt and cargo shorts greets you with the unfriendly, «two?» The restaurant is cold, temperature-wise, as in we never took off our jackets, no music, as in you feel like the quiet conversation you’re having has now become a part of everyone else’s conversation, and the food is pretty so-so, as in wilted salad, highly processed buns on the burger offerings, and fries that likely have more ingredients than salt, oil, and potatoes. Will this place get you fed? Yes. Can you cook better than this at home? Absolutely. But will you look fondly on your trip to Silverton and remember this restaurant? No.

Good healthy food! Even some vegetarian options. Our waiter was young and not knowledgable, however we made it work. Thank you.

After a long ride on the DurangoSilverton R.R.3 hours+we went to find some vittles and found them at this joint. I had the bleu cheese and bacon burger which I couldn’t finish, meat, yes bun no!, While good made it, as Rodney Allen Rippy used to say«It’s too big to eat!» Mu bride had the BLT and we shared some excellent fries. We came here because out in front a sandwich board sign said«Home Made Beefstew! When seated and said stew please the waiter said«excellent choice, Sir!» a couple moments later, he said«sorry, sold out! Wah! Oh well! come here if you can, it’s worth the bumpy scenic ride. That’s another story.

A good dinner and great service. The family run business was a treat. Unfortunately I was too slow in ordering the prime rib as they ran out however the walnut crusted chicken dinner with cherry sauce was good. The cherry pie was also good. But the service was very nice and friendly especially for a tourist town like Sllverton. +1 star for that. Next time I’m going to shorten my happy hour so I can get the prime rib. I heard a few people raving about how good it was.

Great food and service. The entire town lights up and everyone in Silverton is ready for us tourist getting off the train. The service was fast, friendly and the food was fabulous. There are several options in Silverton and The Pickle Barrel is a fabulous option. Our blue cheese hamburger, pastrami sandwich the kids grilled cheese were all delicious. Had the soup of the day asparagus and cheese was awesome. Great options for kids too. The fact is the food is very good here, the service is exceptional, especially if you are riding on the train… they want you in(but will not rush you) out to explore the town of Silverton and definitely make sure you are on the train back.

Good toasted ravioli and chicken parmesan atop angel hair pasta! Great after a day of driving around in the mountains. Service was good until the very end when it slowed down. Definitely recommended!

This is a great place to eat when in Silverton! The staff is very friendly and the food is downright yummy. If you’re in town, and the place is open… I’d recommend stopping by the place for sure.

Great fun and great food. High in the mountains of Colorado. You probably won’t come just for the food but if you ride the Durango Silverton Railroad(which I highly recommend) this is a must stop for food. EVERYTHING is homemade and excellent.

Stopped in here for dinner while staying in Silverton. It was a great choice! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone move as fast as our waiter did. Everyone in the restaurant was super friendly and really wanted the patrons to have a good time. We enjoyed the food, which was all home made. Everything, from the soup and salad to the entrees was amazing. There was a huge case full of deserts that looked delicious(they tasted that way too). If you happen to find yourself in Silverton, make sure to try the Pickle Barrel. You won’t be disappointed!

This place was bustling when we were here, but the service here was solid and the Food here was quite good. We liked the fact that they had some green saldas on the menu, and we in fact hit this place twice — once for each day we were in Silverton. They have a pretty cool atmosphere and prices were not outrageous — and some decent selections for the kids. When we are in Silverton again, we would definitely go back.

Nice place to stop for dinner in Silverton. Everyone tells you to go for the Prime Rib, which was good. I’d say get yourself a nice dinner, but go for the deserts! The fresh baked deserts all looked spectacular. There is a nice looking pub in the back.
