So, yes, in my initial review of the Bagel I must admit that I was scoping out one of their very Hot Servers. However, today, the only thing I was scoping out was the tasty looking plate of kosher dills they brought to the table. Boy, how times have changed! This Sucks! Seriously Folks, The Bagel is a great place to stop for a meal. They have some of the best corned beef sandwiches around if that’s what tickles your fancy. And, a couple of years ago a hot server/waiter person would tickle mine, however, now it appears to be a plate of pickles. They have great soups to start off your meal, and you can have soup with noodles or with some matzah balls. and they bring you a basket of breadstuffs too! But, as good as those breadstuffs are, don’t fill up on that because the sandwiches are where its at. Corned Beef, Pastrami, all so very good. I also had some potato pancakes today and they gave me both applesauce and sour cream but since I hate sour cream I threw that in the garbage, But, I was so very happy with the Applesauce, shoulda traded in that nasty sour cream for more applesauce. So, next time you are shopping until you drop and you need to re-fuel stop by the Bagel. This place has withstood the test of time. And, with good reason…

Unfortunately, the Jewish deli is an institution in decline all over America. The Bagel is not among the finest delis that I’ve been to, but it fills the niche better than most. The large menu should provide something for everyone. Usually I go for their whitefish salad, but sandwiches are also quite good, though nothing like the delicatessens in New York City. The pastrami at the Bagel is properly fatty, but lacks much spice and flavor. Corned beef is a better bet. The egg dishes are only so-so. Crowded for weekend brunch, but the wait is usually no more than 20 minutes.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend The Bagel. I have been a customer for over twenty years. I did not have a particularly bad experience. I am Jewish and I love the deli. They have a food selection that you can’t find just anywhere. So what’s my beef? I was there last night with my three boys. Every time we’ve been there in the last ten years in the summer it has been so cold that I now tell my boys to wear long pants and long sleeves. I still had to ask the staff to warm it up. It’s also expensive. Nearly $ 20 for gefilte fish. Most other entrees are $ 20. I can understand those prices for an upscale downtown restaurant but not a deli. My middle son usually won’t go there because, as many reviewers have stated, service is consistently slow. And I can also confirm that the restaurant is in need of updating. It does appear dirty and old as others have stated.
