My search for the perfect taco never ends… this place is close to my house and it took me forever to actually go check it out. Mostly because the neighborhood is a bit rough. Let’s face it… it’s situated in a small parking lot next to a laundrymat and a small apartment complex. Shady. A few months ago I stopped off to grab a few tacos on the way home and I liked that there was a small cart outside the restaurant with a guy making the small TJ style tacos to go. But the inside was dangerous looking. I stopped going for awhile and tried out a few other spots. I recently went back to Hortencia’s to find that they have since remodeled the place. The outside still leaves something to be desired but inside they have expanded, added some new tables and chairs, fresh paint and they upgraded the décor. I love the TJ style tacos for about $ 1.25 each. They have a buffet of salsas and fixin’s for your tacos… onions, jalapenos, lime, cilantro, guac and anything you could need for dressin the tacos. Their prices are reasonable and the service is fast. Tacos are good… I noticed that they now serve pizza and calzones. This scares me a bit and I have yet to try anything but the tacos or rolled tacos. My usual spot is Rico’s Tacos on Jamacha Blvd… but they are only open on weekends. So when I need a taco fix mid week I come here. Totally gets the job done!
