Mehran Kabob Restaurant

After trying a couple of mediocre Pakistani restaurants in the same area, we were hesitant to try out this new place but decided to anyways. They have recently renovated it and given it a new name. Long story short, this place has by far the best buffet i have had (among halal Pakistani). The menu selection is pretty standard throughout all the restaurants here in DMV but their food was fresh and the taste was also good. The servers were very attentive and came to our table 4 – 5 times .no kidding !!
My husband and I hosted a huge party back in August 2015 .I regret not knowing about this place before or would have seriously considered it. Desi restaurants are usually crappy but we can bring a guest here.

Always a hit or a miss with this place. Last few times it was a big miss. We got three plates of spicy biryani, and it was extremely bland. It was almost as good as eating plain rice, since there was barely any chicken in it. Awful experience. Not going back.

I liked the main restaurant seating area when it was managed under «Chutney», it was more colorful and ethnic looking, now it looks like any other generic restaurant., however the banquet hall has improved 100% and looks great.
I only gave them 3 stars because I went in for a lunch buffet on Monday and the food was obviously not fresh. The tandoori chicken was cold — like out of the fridge cold. The rice had a layer of oil and burnt rice at the bottom, nearly every dish was swimming in oil and cold.
I asked the waiter for a fresh order of the tandoori, he brought it out literally 5 – 7 minutes later. I know a charcoal grill doesn’t cook bone-​in chicken in 5 minutes. Nevertheless, we were served out-​of-​the-​fridge tandoori chicken again. My friend was pretty sure this was leftover food from a weekend of catering, I would go again but maybe on a busy weekend when food turn-​around is a little faster and fresher

On a whim I purchased the LocalFlavor deal for this place about a month ago. Recently I had decided to get new tires and decided to use Virginia Tire & Auto of Springfield and so, as we waited for the alignment we decided it was a good time to try Mehran and use the voucher.
Well I am glad we decided to it as it is not often I get to say hubby has given his best rating (epic thumbs up). I am not quite ready to give it 5 stars but I thought it was pretty good and interested in giving it another try.
The buffet (at least on a Sunday afternoon) is about $ 12. I am pretty sure the items available in the buffet vary but today they were chicken (BBQ & curry), beef, lamb, a rice mix, spinach, and several sauces. They brought naan like bread to the table. The meat was well cooked and basically fell off the bones.
It was very clean. While we were there I noticed regular maintenance of buffet area. I also enjoyed the dessert rice and pumpkin (I think). The mango drink I ordered was also good and I nice accent to the buffet options.
Overall, I am glad we gave this place a try and fully expect to be returning, in fact hubby is already suggesting who we should bring along for a future visit…

Hands down my favorite Kabob place, I love their Chicken Kabob and the sides, specially chick peas are the best. Had lunch today and enjoyed the food and left happy. Customer service was great and owner greeted us with warm welcome. I would recommend everyone to try once

Best Pakistani/​Indian restaurant in the whole dmv area. Been there many times and food is always fresh and delicious. Chicken kabob and lamb chops are my favorite. Newly renovated and great atmosphere. Staff is friendly and helpful

This place used to be «Chutney’s» before they completely renovated the entire plaza. I agree with Farhan C.‘s review. As far as I’m concerned, it is as good as ever which was over the top. We’ve always gone for the buffet and haven’t ordered from the menu, but the food is soooooo yum! We have never had a bad experience here. We took a visiting friend from CO here last year (that was when it was Chutney’s) and he was in heaven, but as I say Mehran only appears to have changed the name and not the «stuff». We live close and we visit here often, will keep coming back. Love it.

Ambience:
Over the last month Mehran completely revamped, renovated, and expanded the restaurant. I will say, it is a beauty. The large wooden doors in the entrance are boss.
They now have 2 large banquet halls that can accommodate a capacity of up to 230 people combined. Perfect for weddings, graduations, or any event.
The design of the restaurant portion is lavish with wooden floors and a clean décor. Bathrooms are also very clean and nice. Another added plus.
Food:
Their tandoori chicken is to die for. It’s cooked on a charcoal grill. Definitely done right. They also have a huge selection of Pakistani kabobs, currys, and briyani. They also have a nice healthy gyro wrap!
Service:
I had great service at Mehran. The waiter greeted me at the door, answered all my questions about the menu, and was polite and respectful. Will definitely request him again.

My family has been in the restaurant business for 25 years. I know what good service is from both perspectives and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. They made us wait an hour and a half for bread, 2 kabobs, and water but 3 families who arrived after our group came and went and were served bread and the works. They were not prepared for our group of about 19 people, which seems counterintuitive for a banquet restaurant. They took our reservation a month in advance and only had one person running the whole restaurant. The waiter served us 2 appetizers in 1 hour and a half and proceeded to ignore us until we confronted them. Upon confrontation the waiter was apprehensive and defensive and raised his voice in return. He also proceeded to spill food my aunt and didn’t even apologize to her. Worst part of all was that they ruined my cousins celebration of her graduation and demanded full price for it. They had every chance to recover and failed to turn it around. The mediocre food is just not worth the journey through hell.

Reading all the previous reviews on here makes me regret ever making a reservation. A month ago my family and I made a reservation for 20 people and they only staffed ONE server the whole night. We ended up getting our food an hour and a half later. We saw four other families get seated and served before us. I understand the server may have been overwhelmed with so many customers, but he was insincere and rude. Since we were seated by the kitchen we could hear him talking about us behind the door and then later he had the audacity to bad mouth us in Hindi, as if we wouldn’t understand. I do not recommend this place, there are better kabob places in Brookfield plaza alone. I wish you could give zero stars on Unilocal

I do not recommend this place… waiter was extremely rude! Took an hour an half to get our food while other people came after we did and left. We made a reservation a month ago. Waiter kept saying kabab takes 25 mins so that was the delay however we sat for 90 mins. When we asked why it took so long for our food. He’s response was his regulars were more important. Nice to know that they don’t treat all their customers the same. Waiter named Bintee dropped a fork with food on me and did not apologize. After I yelled at him that at least he could say sorry — he’s reply was «sorry sorry, are you happy?» Not the kind of service anyone deserves.

Had the buffet. Each dish was very tasty and seasoned well Friendly staff. Atmosphere nothing to speak of but said they are soon to install new buffet line. Having kabob in name kinda misleading since seemed buffet was focus. But overall good on buffet tasty.

The buffet was very average, the service was good, but the cleanliness and atmosphere were severely lacking. I was the first person to arrive for lunch, and there was a pile of food scraps at my feet. Why was there already food under the table at 11am, and why did they sit me at that tables (I’m guessing there were cleaner ones)? Also, the men’s restroom was nasty. Finally, even though I was the only customer, they had the TV blaring. Maybe this was for the wait staff’s entertainment because it certainly wasn’t for mine. I left with a headache.

The restaurant staff was nice and accommodating. The food and selection in the weekend buffet was below average. This place under previous management used to have a decent buffet with a lot of options. Will try one of the other options in springfield next time.

Wish I could give them 0 stars. Horrible people horrible food. As we walked in the guy said it was $ 8 per person for buffet and $ 6.99 per lb taking out. When we went to check out the owner was at the register and he charged us $ 10 per person for buffet and $ 9 per lb take out and he refuse to gives the prices the other guy told us. When the owner was weighing the food, he kept playing with the scale and I’m sure he charged us more since we only took a little bit of rice and spinach (my Pakistani friend liked it cuz he’s used to hot food). Over all its way over priced and the service is horrible. Their food is way too hot, I got food poisoned from it. I definitely don’t recommend it and will never ever go back again.

My girl friend and I went there for the second time for Buffet Lunch as our first experience was great. Thoroughly disappointed with both food and service. This place has gone down the tubes in 4 weeks.
You will be wasting your time and money if you dine there.
