Shiver has outstanding tasting drinks. They are a bit higher than your average place for similiar branded vodkas. The music was okay at some times, and others just lame beats with no words… The crowd in there is very heavy on the dude side of things, so ladies if you want a Ed Hardy’ed out guy, then go for it. Be careful not to get the hair gel on your clothes though, I’m not sure you’d be able to get it out. Their chill chamber is a cool idea. We didn’t do it because we had a big party, but it looks promising. I believe it is 20 bucks for 2 drinks, and you wear parkas and gloves, because basically its a deep freezer. All in all, I would come back for an hour or two, but it wouldn’t be somewhere I would stay all night at.

I thought I already reviewed this but if I didn’t we loved this place. Went into the ice room to try the vodkas and the staff was amazing in there, and they took fun pictures of us in there. Try the cake or frootloop flavored vodka. We payed $ 24 for 2 tastings which i think was a deal, or at least they said it was. The décor is marvelous, all decorated with ice style chandeleirs and a round swing when you come in. We went at 930, try a little later for more of a crowd, not many were in there at that time.

I don’t know if I can honestly give this a fair review with a lot of extra factors into it. 1. Washington Avenue was pretty dead last night. For some reason the cops decided to barricade the roads off which prevents vehicular traffic. …and… 2. 54 degrees on the first weekend in June? Seasonally untypical. I could totally understand why that would put a damper on things. Anyway, we came here around 11:45pm. It had less than 30 people in the whole joint and that including staff working. Luckily there was no cover. The music was good with a solid mix of techno and top 40s, however, with not having many people in the place, it sounded louder and quite overbearing on the ears probably than it usually should. My boyfriend and I met up with another couple of friends of ours who had been there for an hour or so. We only ended up ordering 1 drink a piece. Well vodka with cranberry added up to be $ 12 for the both of them. It wasn’t really that good tasting. I think it had more cranberry and ice than alcohol. Overpriced drinks with not enough oomph. The atmosphere and décor itself is pretty neat. I loved all the blues and silvers everywhere. The concept of an ice bar isn’t anything new. I’ve seen it quite a few times in different places — Ernie’s 32 in the Grove, an ice bar at Café Eau at the Chase Park Plaza, and Sub Zero in Central West End. All relative to me. I think if the place would have more people it could have been a lot more fun. For now, it will remain a 3 star in hopes of having a 5 star experience next time around.

Blah and gross is all I can say about this place. I have been twice and I don’t really understand the whole ice bar deal. I feel that has already been done and over with. The first time I came here, I was with 4 of my other girlfriends at 1:30am on a Saturday night and this place was not popping at all. Most recentley, I was here last Wednesday, the eve before Thanksgiving with 6 of my girlfriends and thank goodness we got there before 9:00pm because the door guy said they were going to charge $ 10 door cover. I looked at him with my «UM, NO» face. we stayed for an hour and it was a complete dud so we left for Lucas Park, which by the way was more popping and fun! I don’t think I will be going back…

So the reviews for this place are really split. My friends and I went on a Saturday night(Mardi Gra) and had a blast. It was a $ 5 cover charge and the place wasn’t overly packed. They played music and there was a dance floor. The best part for me was there was somewhere for me to sit! Man I hate standing in a bar all night! The bartender was awesome. I stood in amazement as he made my long island. He then went to put on a show after wards. Nice! My friend and I went into the ice lounge and really liked it. You wear a coat and take a shot of vodka in there. The waitress that went in with us was awesome! She took photos of us inside the«ice bar». Although ½ the reviews for this place say it is horrible I found the bar to be really fun and it is located on a nice spot on Washington Ave. I would mostly likely go again if we go back to St. Louis.

I will never go to shiver again. went with a friend who was allowed to where his hat. but they took mine. I was wearing a button up and a NICE hat. when they said I couldnt wear it I obliged bc they said it was being put in the coat check… when I want to get it. coat check doesnt exist. Its milk crate of hats… and mine being the only one in there worth anything was of course gone… And the staff did not give a shit. decent dj. shit staff and establishment

I love vodka. I love sitting down at a bar and seeing multiple choices of vodka, in different flavors. I love even more sitting down and seeing an entire WALL of different brands of vodka, and all of their flavors. So, for me, Shiver was more like Heaven! The Fiancé and I stopped in here as it was first opening, so we got prime spots at the bar. The fake ice and«frozen» look was kinda cheesy, but I liked it. It was also super cold inside, but it felt nice after walking around outside in the 100+ humidity. After first gawking at all the vodka, and then at the cocktail list, I settled on a cocktail made of vodka and champagne(booze mixed with booze sounded like a GREAT idea at the time). It was delicious. I wanted to stay there forever, try every single vodka, and live to tell about it. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t work that way, so I only had the one cocktail. The bartenders were nice, though kind of fake. I guess some friends of there or people who work there were there at the bar as well, and they were all smoking. That really turned me off about the place — I’m not sure if it was allowed or not, but it was gross. I peeked in the frozen chamber thing, but didn’t go in. If I had a bunch of girlfriends in town, I’d take them in there to do a shot, just to say I did. I could definitely see this place being douchebag central once the crowd came in, but since we were there so early, I just got to enjoy the display of vodkas and my cocktail. We’ll be back again, but we’ll make it early.

Meh… came here for the first time this weekend for a friend’s birthday. It was packed on a Saturday night(good), unfortunately with some serious dbags and btch varieties(bad). To sum it up, the music was terrible(yes, you can make top 40 awesome if you sprinkle it with a few indie dance tracks but I suspect the DJ here even knows any tracks outside the crap they play on the radio), the crowd was nearly intolerable(we draped our coats on the back of a chair and some chicks repeatedly threw them on the floor… um honey you can still sit on your chair so what’s with the attitude?), there is really no dance floor: the dance area was full and everyone was trying to dance/move in the narrow walkway between the bar and the first row of seating, while trying to dodge people getting by. The bartenders didn’t do any fancy tricks like the other have mentioned, and the ice chamber? uh… i’ll pass. It’s cold enough out. Shiver was just as bad and pretentious as Pure down the street. On the other hand, Lucas Park, also down the street, has much more pleasing and attractive crowd, more seating and space, and no cover. Lucas Park can have my money anyday over this place.

I’m a fan of this place b/c every time we go it’s always a great time! Located on Washintong Ave it’s a great spot to hang out. Music, crowd usually all very tolerable. Last visit we opt’d for shots in the ice freezer. Only down party of this, Three Olives brand vodka sponsors this so that’s the only vodka they serve in the freezer. but have no fear!!! Anything you might want to drink is probably somewhere on the main bar.

Brrrrr… this place sucks! I was dragged here for a friend’s b-day. He didn’t pick it, his Affliction t-shirt wearing friend did, because it was his bday as well. Did I mention that an Affliction t-shirt wearing person picked this place? It’s December in St. Louis and this guys wearing an Affliction t-shirt. Affliction. It was Saturday night and the place was packed and teeming with douches. One could barely move in the place, and I was getting knocked around and bumped into at every corner. The music was house/top 40/techno crap. I like going to clubs every once in a while, I’m not trying to be a hater, but this place really blew.

The music sucks, the guy at the door is rude. Also there are like 10 people here on a Saturday. Overall it is lame.

I went this past Saturday night with a group of seven girls. It was fun for about an hour or so. I can say«been there, done that, got the Ed Hardy t-shirt.» The bartenders weren’t doing any of their infamous fire tricks and in fact the whole staff was really salty about having to be there. Sure, dealing with drunks is never a walk in the park, but it comes with working at a place bumping techno/trance, charging at least a $ 10 cover, and having a cliché theme of ice at a place called Shiver(or I refer to it, «The Cold Place»). The atmosphere felt a bit too Eastern European for my taste(aka: industrial meets ice). There are these cheesy clear plastic bubble swings hanging from chains from the ceiling as soon as you walk in. There are some poor excuse for booths along the edge of the super narrow dance floor(careful on the dancefloor – you’re bound to have spray tan and fake eyelashes stick to you as your make your way to the back of the bar). The bar stools have clear etched detailed backs that totally add to your experience and make you feel like your sitting on a little ice cube throne. Don’t forget to stop by the special VIP ice room to enjoy an overpriced drink and solidify the tackiness of your experience. If observing men wearing loads of rhinestones arranged in tribal art, fleur de lis, and skull patterns on white button up shirts is your spectator sport of choice, then you’ll think this place is super dope.

An amazing lounge located right of Washington ave. And 12th street. Great music, cool people, beautiful atmosphere, and any kind of vodka you can think of is on the drink menu! Remember to check out the ice cooler were you can sip on samples and sit on benches made of ice!

So, definitely not the type of place I would usually go to, but I went for a bachelorette party and everyone had a really great time! We were there on a Thursday night and the place was totally dead, but our waitress was quite nice. We got to go into the ice room at the«„bachelorette party price“» of $ 10, which included 1 shot in the room. It’s very gimmicky but also fun, and you definitely need the parkas and gloves.

Just want to update since my last review. I did go back on friday night with a bachelorette party and we had a blast. Everyone loved the ice chamber: parka, gloves(gotta have ‘em!), and drinks were awesome. All 8 of the girls said the ice chamber was very worth $ 20. The music, dancing, drinks(I tried«I’m Bossy») and all the people made for a great night that we will think about and LOL about for a long time. The only thing that I should mention is that when we ordered drinks from the table(not the bar) they took a long time and we nearly dehydrated. We fixed that little problem by ordering 2 at a time :)

Meh. Me and some friends were club hopping on Washington Avenue, and this place looked inviting, so we stopped in. I wasn’t really feeling the music(top 40/techno), and the atmosphere was nice, but sort of cold. The bartenders were doing some pretty cool fire tricks, but that got old after a while. There was a pretty interesting ice chamber lounge where you could go in and have some drinks. It’s freezing in there… but don’t worry — they have parkas for you to wear while you’re in there. The ice chamber was interesting, but it came off as sort of hokey. If i’m going to a bar, I want to either drink, dance, or both. I’m not interested in wearing a used parka and sitting in a freezer. The drinks were reasonably priced, but when I ordered a Malibu and pineapple, they couldn’t make it, because they didn’t have pineapple juice. WTF? I can’t see myself ever coming back here. It was just too corny for me. Sorry!

Shiver Vodka Bar is one of the newest bars on Washington Avenue downtown. Located in the space of the now defunct restaurant Beso, Shiver features over 150 vodkas and 25 champagnes. Also featured is a ice chamber lounge which you can enter and have a few drinks. The cost is $ 20 and includes two drinks of your choice. A parka and gloves are provided. Inside the chamber when we were there, was a nice ice carving of the Arch and St. Louis skyline. My friends and I went on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday. It was a small crowd around 10pm, but within an hour, it turned into a quite a good crowd. One of the bartenders put on a good show throwing around flaming bottles, blowing fire, and setting the bar on fire. We had a great time at Shiver and will likely return again. Shiver is a new place, and it’s hard to say what kind of following it will develop, but I give it 4 stars for the fun time we had there.
