Great restaurant. The escargot is a staple, and it’s not prepared in the traditional French fashion with butter and garlic. The unique preparation is always a treat. The sea bass is a great dish, especially in the Midwest where fresh fish is a challenge to find.

I go there for Sunday brunch on occasion and while the selection is somewhat limited, the choices are good with quality put into each selection. This is a vast improvement over their brunch from a year ago that was trending downhill. The owners got the message and did the right things to make a better dining experience. Weather permitting, outside dining the best choice. Staff is friendly but could be slightly more attentive. I have not had dinner there but I would highly recommend brunch and be sure to make reservations as it tends to get busy on Sundays.

Could not ask for a more fantastic place for drinks and desert to help enjoy nice weather. Vin de Set is located on the roof of the building and is(almost) entirely outside with a fantastic view and romantic/industrial ambiance. I chose to sit at the bar which had no wait. My friend and I ordered the nutella crepes and vanilla crème brûlée. Highly recommend the nutella crepes. Each bite was like a little bit of heaven. The crème brûlée was a little too eggy for my taste, though my friend very much enjoyed it. Service was fast and friendly. I will be back to enjoy another beautiful weekend night.

We had a fantastic experience here. The escargot was delicious. My husband ordered the Ratatouille which was extremely rich but also very good. Our waitress was kind, attentive and knowledgable and suggested a few wines to pair with our meal that were perfect. We will definitely be back again soon! A really cozy atmosphere, delicious French cuisine and friendly staff. Loved it!

After hearing so many positive things about this restaurant, we went there for one of their Tour De France dinners. The food lacked flavor and really did not represent the region of France that was supposed to be the theme of the night. The wine pairings also had no tie to the region and had no real significance, they were just selections off the normal menu. It was an underwhelming culinary experience. Despite the restaurant being half full, staff was delayed in acknowledging our presence once we were seated. However, after our order was placed, food was served at an expedited pace, with some staff checking to see if we were ready for the table to be cleared even while we were taking bites. The good part of this attentive service is that we were never out of water or drinks!

Food: 2(not terrible, but not inspired) Service: 4 Ambiance: 4 This is 3 stars in spite of the food. Food: The food is generally acceptable, but I would never again go here specifically for the food. We shared an odd braised lamb crêpe. The dish should be renamed«meat in nice traditional gravy sauce with some hints of what used to be a soggy crêpe buried far beneath.» That is, the actual crêpe arrives soiled, drowned, and buried in a light(ish) gravy sauce. The braised beef is fine on its own, but it’s a bit sad calling this dish a crêpe. As for the mussels with their bloody mary sauce, the mussels were cooked well. But there were a handful of cracked shells in the pot, some of which ended up(rather unpleasantly) in my mouth. The kitchen should take the extra minute to ensure the mussels do not arrive with small jagged edges. As far as the sauce is concerned, I found the cheesy aspect of the«bloody mary» sauce off-putting and too overpowering in combination with the mussels. But other diners enjoyed it.(They’re bigger bleu cheese fans, it seems.) The scallops were cooked well, with a nice crisp and otherwise were not chewy. The accompanying sauce was interesting but nothing remarkable. One diner had the mixed greens salad and enjoyed it quite a bit. Note that he is a huge gouda fan, which is part of the dressing. Despite our warnings to save pasta for an Italian establishment, one diner ordered the provencal pasta, which he described as provincial.(He would order pasta from anyone.) The pasta was cooked fine, but the sauce was straightforward and uninteresting. Skip the pasta, unless you’re that one diner. The bouillabaisse was good for what you can get in St. Louis. But if you are judging this in comparison to the type of bouillabaisse you would get in Southern France, then it is disappointing. The dish is more of a fish stew than a classic bouillabaisse. Specifically, the sauce or broth is fine, but it lacks the spicier and deeper flavor that comes from a proper incorporation of garlic aioli, which tastes generally absent here. Most problematic, the fish tasted over-boiled: it was less moist and tender than it should be. The sea bass may have been the most successful of the entrees, which is to say, it was slightly better than mediocre. The fish was tender and cooked well. The accompaniments were very light and delicate with no overpowering tastes. A side of pommes frites that the table shared were fine, but insufficiently crispy on the outside. The parmesan cheese was a nice touch, but only accentuated the general mushy character and lack of crisp in the fries. A crème brûlée dessert was a disheartening conclusion to the meal. The custard was too thick and inconsistent. The top level of caramelized sugar was unforgivably cold. So, the crème brûlée failed at the essential contrast required in the dish. Service: The service staff was the highlight here. They were generally attentive, courteous, nice, and helpful. They were sensitive to our schedule and brought refills as they were asked(once even before being asked). The only knock would be they forgot to bring us extra bread, but that is the only miss. Ambiance: The environment, at least indoors, strikes a nice balance. It can feel romantic(not as much as Fratellini, for example), but it can also work well for a group.

Great food and even better atmosphere! If this place is booked up, try their sister restaurant 1111 Mississippi. Vin de Set has this amazing rooftop bar which is such a cool experience in and of itself, you add to that great drinks and delicious food and it pushes the whole experience to fantastic. Their ratatouille ravioli is so good and their stuffed chicken breast is another of my favorites. Oh and their warm baked brie… yummmmmmmm! You can’t go wrong here!

The positives: Good Ambiance and service. Unfortunately the Negatives overshadow the positives. I had a pineapple Martini that was tasteless. My Sangria taste like bad red wine on the rocks with seriously no other favors of fruit or brandy or any period. I had the trout with Risotto and it was the blandest food I think I’ve ever had. My husband had some pasta that was equally as bland. The only thing that was edible was the Pomme fritz. Thank god we had those because I was starved. I’m glad I’ve had some amazing French cuisine because if I this had been my first experience with it… I Would seriously doubt the taste of the French. After spending a decent amount of money We went home hungry. Today I have serious stomach issues and needless to say we will not be back!

The restaurant is lovely and the views of the city are wonderful but obviously better in warmer weather. Our service was great. The food was bland and tasteless – nothing exceptional at all. We had the salads returned – the salads had no taste. The meat was tough and fatty. The bouillabaisse was definitely a disappointment. We have been here before but the quality of food was not up to our expectation.

Amazing food!!! I went here for the first time with a group of ladies for work for a 40th birthday. I was intrigued by the menu and wanted to try it all, but I was getting over a bug so I figured I would stick to something a little more«normal» than my usual desire to try something new. I had the filet, medium rare with mashed potatoes and asparagus. It was magnificent! I tried a bit of off my friends food as well and everything was so flavorful. The waiter was awesome, our fellow patrons were fun and the atmosphere is outstanding inside. We would’ve loved to sit outside since it was a 60 degree day in the winter, but the patio was closed. I can’t wait to bring my husband here for dinner!

We really loved this place. When you enter, you’re like, «Wait, where is the restaurant? I just see a hallway and an elevator???» You go up in the elevator and its like your own little private restaurant. Romantic and industrial. The service is amazing. They will allow you to try most of the wines before you commit to one. They keep all of your glasses full. They have some pretty interesting signature cocktails that have St. Louis names and are actually quite tasty. Try the Chouteau Cider! For bottle prices, on wine, full well knowing the markups that exist for most restaurants — this is no different, however, I would consider most of them reasonable unless you’re really celebrating and upgrading to a nicer bottle. Go for it. The scallops in celery root purée are absolutely amazing delightful and amazing. I have had good scallops at Café Provencal and then I have had AWFUL scallops just about everywhere else that I have felt brave enough to try them. These were delicious. The bed of pureed roots and veggies gave it a fabulous accent to taste and texture. We also ordered the frites.(A big bowl of fries) with a TARRAGONDIPPINGSAUCE. I put that in caps so you understand how much you need this dipping sauce in yo’ life. It’s amazing. I never want to have french fries with anything else again, to be completely honest with you. We also decided to try the deliciously melty, bubbly, rich, French Onion soup. Did not disappoint. They have a prixe fixe menu that seems completely and totally reasonable but this night my husband and I had our sights set on the duck confit and the bouillabase. Both were phenomenal. The confit, literally for its name, fell off the bone and went perfectly with as rich as it was, the less rich bed of white beans providing for some balance. Keith was a fabulous server and if you can sit along the wall where the little windows are, you can get a phenomenal view of the city at night when the patio is closed for the frigid winter months. Vin de Set will not disappoint, especially not for a little celebration or a romantic date night.

Hint: When reading restaurant reviews always filter ‘newest first’. I made the mistake of not doing this. Thar’s how I ended up at Vin de Set. The appetizer(potato croquettes) was literally flavorless. It tasted like if you were to roll up balls of unseasoned mashed potatoes and throw it in a deep fryer. My main course was a pasta dish and the pasta was UNDERCOOKED! That was the first time in my life that I’d had under coked pasta at a restaurant. My girlfriends main course was a fish fillet over risotto. It was an ordinary flounder fillet over a huge pile of the most bland risotto I’ve ever tasted. The only edible thing we had was the bread and herb butter, which at least filled our stomach’s enough so we weren’t starving on the drive home. The manager was extremely accommodating, gave us a free glass of wine and did not charge us for our main courses. The waitstaff was great and service in general was top-notch, but none of that matters when the food is awful.

Caveat: I’ve only been for the Father’s Day brunch. Unfortunately it was not worth it. $ 30 per person and the breakfast buffet was extremely disappointing. Food lacked flavor and seasoning. I will say we went at the last hour of the brunch, but regardless, it was a bummer that several of the items we definitely paid for(ribs, bacon, fresh fruit, etc) were emptied and not refilled during our meal.

After all the hype I’ve heard about this place, I was excited to spend NYE here for dinner. Atmosphere: The place was busy and had a great ambiance. I am sure if it was spring time, the view from the rooftop would have been amazing. Nonetheless, we were able to see the arch which was pretty cool. Food: Prime rib with mashed potatoes and horseradish was delicious and definitely hit the spot. Bouillabaisse was bland, barely eaten and uninspiring. Shrimp risotto was AWFUL! It was ungodly bland and the texture was off(undercooked). We couldn’t believe they even served that. What were they thinking?!? It was the worse thing ever cooked… or attempted. I get that it was NYE, it was busy and the kitchen was slammed, but damn, get your s*** together. For the love of god, if you’re gonna charge $ 29.99 for an entrée make it at least edible! Thank you for wasting our money and for this great conversation piece. To be fair, the wine was great… Thank you King Estate Winery in Oregon for the lovely pinot noir. We will not be coming here any time soon.

How to describe Vin de Set: Amazingly Wonderful! From the moment I got out of the elevator I could tell I was in for a treat. Greeted instantly by two nice ladies and quickly ushered to our table which was near the beautiful fireplace, our evening started off wonderfully. Every staff member was polite and helpful. The water lady was always there to make sure our glasses were topped off. Wait staff that wasn’t even our waiter, stopped to say hello and ask if we were enjoying our meal. It is the little things like this that build a good business. The meal was fantastic! We started with the scallops and the Spicy Crab Beignets. The scallops were very good and very large! The Beignets couldn’t have been better. The Tomato-bacon jam & smoked paprika aioli was the icing on the cake! Their house champagne was pretty good as was their riesling. While waiting for our main courses, we decided to also have a small cheese platter. The cheeses were so fresh and tasty-the warm fresh baked bread was excellent-and the mustard sauce was to die for, especially when mixed with the goat cheese! The Chilean Sea Bass was extraordinary. The fish itself was large and light, the vegetables were fresh and added to the taste wonderfully. The braised duck that was the evenings special was in one word, Yummy. With a lovely atmosphere, company, and amazing food, this was an incredible evening. We were there about 2 hours, enjoying the food, drinks, and conversation. We ended the meal and evening with their crème brûlée. This is a must have! I do not know why they only have 3.5 stars, they are a 5 star in my book! I will be back for their Sunday Brunch and for their 2 – 5 happy hour specials. I am looking forward to trying their crepes. One last note, I noticed that no one was tipping the water lady. She worked very hard to make sure everyones glasses were always full and there never was a dirty dish sitting longer than a few seconds on the tables. I made sure to give her a separate tip and I hope my fellow Unilocalers will recognize her and her hard work as well when they visit Vin de Set.

Vin de Set is the sister to Eleven Eleven, the cousin to Moulin and mother of PW’s. Although I absolutely adore them all and treat each as extended family; they offer something totally different. What makes Vin de Set extraordinary is their amazing rooftop view(I’m a sucker for rooftop views) which creates a magnificent ambiance and gives an amazing view of the Lafayette/Downtown neighborhoods. The dimly lit dining room is super chic as well. What I enjoy most at this location is the Sunday Brunch. Superb assortment of food from omelettes to waffles and fresh juice to mimosas. Perfect in the spring/summer months for couples, family and girls day out. Staff is great and the price is right; give it whirl. ~Christy said so.

Today I decided to try a new restaurant for lunch. I knew it was going to be a good one too since it is the sister restaurant to Eleven Eleven Mississippi. I started with a cup of the Potato and Ham with Crème Fraîche and Chives on top. The main course I went with the Braised Lamb Crêpe. It had Mushroom, Shallot, Demi Glacé, & Preserved Lemon Gremolata. The combination was amazing. They have a trio special everyday for lunch a lot like Eleven Eleven so it is a very affordable lunch as well. Can’t wait to go back and try something new.

Great spot! Great happy hour and daily specials… However, we walked in and were told we can sit in one area and have drinks/apps, we could sit in this area for drinks only, we can sit here for drinks, apps and dinner… Etc. super confusing. Especially if people are coming in to spend money. Other than that– once we were accommodated, everything was great! Good wine selection, we had the mussels and scallops, both were great. Staff was pleasant and friendly. I feel bad for the hostess to has to explain their seating arrangement a million times to confused customers. Two ladies say next to us at the bar and they were just as confused…

Pro: The perfect balance of a relaxed yet intimate rooftop atmosphere, an amazing menu, great service, and overall dining enjoyment! Previous visits have allowed me to enjoy the Sea Bass as well as the Scallop appetizer. Both are excellent! This time around, I went with the Pork Chop while my date had the Lobster Tail. Both were perfectly seasoned and cooked! On the drink side of the menu, both the Sangria and the Old Fashioned were executed well. Con: Nothing worthy of mention. This place rocks! Bottom Line: This may be my favorite seafood place in the city. Try the Fresh Catch option during the Summer months too!

BF and I came here for an early dinner one Tuesday at 4pm. We didn’t realize they didn’t serve dinner until 5pm. We sat outside at the bar, which was a really great view. BF got the escargot, which he said was really good. Even though they weren’t serving dinner, I asked if they would make the ratatouille ravioli for me and they did. It was ok. I wasn’t super impressed with it. So after a couple bites, I asked for the baked brie. I liked the baked brie, but I didn’t realize it was breaded or whatnot. I didn’t care for the crust on it, but the brie and fig sauce was fabulous. We got a bottle of wine, which was good. The waitress was nice. We definitely want to come back here. I mean, that view is amazing!

This will make the second year in a row that I have visted for the Father’s Day brunch. I hear that the brunch is always good, but I can’t tell you if the spread is as vast as the one I saw every other brunch. The rooftop dining is amazing and it will keep me coming back, if only for the drinks. The year the quality was a slightly less than last year, but last year was amazing so comparing the two might not be fair. The service wasn’t as great as the one as last year either. I am not sure if I will come back next year for this because the value for the pricey ticket seems to go up, while the quality seems to be heading down. The food is still good enough where I will try to visit during the dinner hours, or try a brunch on a non holiday.

Holy Cow what a way to spend a rainy Sunday. I got to be part of the Bloody Mary School of Booze tutorial. The bartender, I am sorry I forget his name, was very into teaching us how to make infused vodka. This man has a huge passion for booze… Not a bad passion. We learned how to make infused blueberry basil and cucumber dill vodka. We sampled the blueberry straight, it should be mixed with lemonade… YUM We moved on to the Bloody Mary bar, we had the chance to use Zing Zang, Smoky something and Hot Sauce. I chose the smoky bloody, a dollop of horseradish, with a strip of bacon, yes bacon, and olives. Other suggestions on the bar were your typical celery, but pickled green beans, peppers, olives. The bartender was telling us that Vin de Set has their own organic farm, I am sorry I was having a time imagine organic in the city, but if they say so. They grow all of their own vegetables and they compost all of the table scraps… LOVEIT. To complete the meal, we had a flatbread pizza with gorgonzola cheese, mushrooms and onions. Very tasty… but my favorite was the two cheese platters. It had a olive spread, homemade spicy mustard, a herb brittle and two different kinds of cheeses, the group was so small that we traded the cheese platters back and forth. I want to go back with friends and try the martini’s and have dinner on the roof top.

Service and locale are 5-star, food was 2 star. The restaurant is comfortable, casual and classy making this a fun spot for a date or a celebration. The restaurant staff was very accommodating and happily switched us to a different table when we showed up and were not happy with the one we were seated at. Our server was fabulous. He never once made us feel rushed or forgotten, a true art. The food was a let-down. We ordered the special appetizer of prawns which was small, expensive, and overall lacking in something. I did enjoy my beet salad, that was well prepared and balanced. Multiple in the party ordered the sea bass for dinner which was OK but incredibly salty. We split two desserts, the crème brûlée was amazing, but the espresso cake was terrible! Dry, bitter and flavorless. I probably won’t come back. Too expensive for mediocre food, even if the service is spectacular.

There are some moments in a Unilocalers life where they… are so moved by the ambiance and food… they don’t remember to take pictures. It does not happen often, and when it does it is a little unsettling. Vin de Set has been that place for me time and time again. I have been for Dinner, Drinks, and Brunch. Something happens to me on the elevator ride upstairs. I step off the elevator and am in my own bliss. This is by far one if my favorite places in St. Louis. The staff is stellar. The food is impeccable. The view makes me proud to be from STL. I find myself fully engrossed in the conversation with my dining partner at Vin de Set. There are few interruptions and distractions. It is a superb place to take someone you want to really talk with. Inside the main dining room there is a warm romantic fireplace. I will be back– and someday — WILL get a photo!
