Beyond Hair

I wanted to like this place, too.
Being between jobs and seeing their reasonable prices was what ultimately made me decide to come here a few months ago. I needed a trim and a root touch up for what was essentially Daenerys-​platinum blonde hair. My god. The cut was fine, but the dye job? Christ. I read a few reviews here and saw that Aprile was reportedly the one to see, so I had booked her for my appointment. I should have left the moment I saw her hair. It was banana-​yellow, the exact color I did not want to see atop my head ever again (after box-​dying it myself in high school).
What was the result? Well, yellow. It wasn’t too noticeable at first, but as the toner started fading, there was a distinct ring of yellow between my beautiful platinum hair and my roots. It was embarrassing enough that I decided to go back to my natural, dark blonde color just to get rid of it… and even then the colorist I went to was like, «wtf happened here?»
Still looking for a great salon on the island. Until then, I will only trust my hair to the good ladies at Mudhoney and Hair Metal.

I went to get a really short Bob that wasn’t old lady looking… Danielle cut and styled my hair. She did an AMAZING job! I get so many compliments everywhere I go! For the first time in yearssss I was completely satisfied with the way my hair was precision cut! It was perfectly evenly cut, no loose strands left behind… straight edge, slight Bob! Perfection! Before I left I made sure to give Danielle a hug because I was just SO happy! This will definitely be my go to hair spot! Danielle also made sure she knew exactly what I wanted… she kept asking me if I wanted it shorter before she cut away.

I had a great experience at Beyond Hair. Everyone was super nice and helpful. Julie cut my hair just the way I wanted, she was very careful and made sure I left happy. I will definitly be going back. The salon is very cozy and the prices very affordable.

I went to beyond hair as I desperately needed a place to set right a hair cut that went wrong. The service was amazing. The receptionist who attended my call was friendly and helpful. I went in right on time for my appointment. Within a few minutes, I was taken for a hair wash. I have been to some salons previously, where they dont bother to do a good hair wash. But at beyond hair, the lady patiently washed and conditoned my hair. The hair stylist who did my hair was Aprile. She was amazing! Friendly and professional. She clearly knew what she was doing. Listened to my problem and within thirty minutes, I was walking out with beautifully flat ironed hair! Loved it! I would definitely go back. This is my hair salon from today!

If you are a blonde, then you need to see Aprile Love. She’s a blonde herself and definitely know what she is doing. I’ve never been dissatisfied with my color or cut. Great prices too!

I really wanted to like this place, it’s very cute and the customer service was great. Everyone was super nice and helpful. The haircut was $ 50 so not too pricey, and the location is very convenient for me. However, I wanted to keep my hair long and thin it out to take off some of the weight but neither of these things happened. Instead I ended up looking like a 45 year old mom. It is much shorter than I wanted, kinda choppy, and still just as heavy as before. Next time I will make time to go to the city for a haircut. Disappointed.

I am still fairly new to the area and have yet to find a place that doesn’t leave me in a vast wave of disappointment. My last visit to the salon left me with bangs that looked as though a crocodile chomped down on them only to be told that it looked that way because of the way my own hair styled itself. Huh?! For the record, my hair is extremely simple. It’s straight and it’s long and I push my bangs to the side. So after reading a few reviews, I tried here to get a quick trim, and was pleasantly surprised. Everyone was friendly, and at no point did I ever feel as though I was being rushed. Price was fair and the stylist took her time trimming away. I will definitely be going back to this salon.

I meant to write this review a couple of months ago. Well I have to say I was very satisfied with my experience there. My first impression was, what a small place and I hoped for the best but as soon as I entered everyone was so pleasant and I just showed the stylist a pic of what I kinda wanted and she gave me an amazing haircut. I was worried because I was going short but she did a great job. Unfortunately I don’t remember her name. Her chair was in the either the 2^nd or 3^rd from the door. She was a middle aged brunette. She also trimmed and blew out my daughters hair. I definitely will go back for a trim.
Oh and another thing I liked was all the goodies and snacks they had to offer. Lol. I was pregnant so I enjoyed it. Crackers, cookies and coffee. They also kept my 4 yr old occupied and she helped the colorist with things. Very cute. Thanks guys.

I had just moved into the Dongan Hills area in the spring of 2008. One day I was checking out the surrounding area. As I walked up Newberry Ave. to Richmond Rd. I see a hair salon. I walk in off the street & I see this tall amazing woman @ the back station @ work. She turns to me immediately & says «welcome to Beyond Hair». I introduced my self to her & tell her «I want that». I was pointing to her hair style & color, it was just what I was looking for. The rest is history people. .. I’m still w/​Danielle & I love her (like a daughter) & the crew are the bomb, as soon as you walk through the door your home. I have been going to Aprile for my hair for a few years now and I have to say she gets it right every time. I have very long hair that takes forever to dry and Aprile is very patient working with it. Every time I go in its usually for a trim and color and Aprile knows exactly what I want. I like how she devotes a lot of time to you and your needs, too. Aprile did my hair for many formal occasions and gave me great up-​dos and curly waves. I love how she does the bouncy big curl too. I would definitely recommend this salon, its affordable and Aprile is a cool stylist. Very down to earth, funny and makes you feel comfortable, there’s nothing worse than going into a salon and walking out with something you hate. That never happens when I go to Aprile.

I just got back from a haircut from there. I had been looking for a place in Staten Island and decided to go here based on the Unilocal reviews. Aprile cut my hair and she did an amazing job! She knew exactly what I wanted from a few words and executed it perfectly. Very good service, with no wait since I called ahead. I would definitely recommend this salon and especially Aprile!!!

I have been in desperate search of a good salon since moving out to SI a few years ago and I finally found the place! Everyone is friendly and the prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality and amount of time & attention you are given. Linda is awesome!

I’m from VA, so I actually depended on Unilocal to find a good salon for a wedding I was going to attend on 4÷6÷12 in Staten Island. And so I’m paying it forward by writing this review.
The salon is really small but produces great results. :) I had a hair appt with Jeannie. At first glance, I was a little worried because she wasn’t as young as my current stylist and was afraid that because I didn’t come in with an example picture, that my updo might look old fashioned. But she definitely eased that fear! My hair came out great. It took her about an hour to do it, but she did it with such precision and expertise that I wouldn’t have cared it if it took her two! I was super happy with the results!
I did my make up with Stash. She has flawless skin so I figured she knew what she was doing. And she did. :) She didn’t make me look two-​toned. And she didn’t make me look like I was about to go on stage at a drag queen fashion show. She told me what she was doing along the way and why. I’ve never had a make up artist explain why they were putting eyeliner on top and why thicker, etc. I was very happy walking out.
The staff overall seemed super sweet. They called the day before to confirm my appt and everything was just so pleasant. The parking is on the street, but it’s ample. If I lived in NY, this would probably be my salon. :) Thanks ladies for the wonderful job!

I was looking for a good hair stylist in the S.I. area for a WHILE now and I think I have finally found it!
I got the name of this salon from my sister who got it from a friend (who travels from NJ to get her hair done at this salon) and let me tell you they were right on the money!
Everyone in the salon was so friendly and knew what they were doing: O) I was treated like I was in a high end salon and the hair dresser/​owner who did my hair did a FANTASTIC job! I recommend this salon hands down!

I followed a few of the hair stylists (artists) from when they were working at Wavelengths on Hylan Blvd years ago… These stylists are talented with all hair types, great cuts, modern and up to date, awesome highlights, updo’s, makeup, etc… it’s a full service salon now… I can’t say enough about this salon. and they treat you like family… I won’t recommend any one person, because they all ROCK! Worth every penny.
