Dinner was excellent. Our waiter Nick was extremely informative and attentive. He was on point with everything a waiter needs to do to perform top class service. He should work at a five star restruant in San Francisco or New York. I definitely didn’t feel like I was in Stockton. Rib eye was perfect. Establishment was very clean with just the right ambiance.

I had the ribeye(15oz.) It was great, perfectly cooked, highly recommended. Courteous staff, and a very appealing full bar. Nice vibe to the place with great ambiance. It really is a «hidden gem» as another reviewer said. They know what they’re doing with steak, they have NY strip, filet, and prime rib(after 5) in addition to the ribeye. They also have a good selection of seafood, pasta, and chicken dishes. This is a nice«date» style restaurant. The prices are similar to other steakhouses, in the $ 30 – 40 range for a good cut.

If you’re looking for an out of the way steak house with old school charm this is it. The Shadows was a staple for good food years ago and then closed for quite awhile. But it is open again and it is like going back in time which is a compliment. It is not your typical«yuppie» type restaurant with little computers on each table and TV’s on every wall. If you’re looking for a large place like Papapavlos this is not it. The Shadows is an intimate room. This is old school fine dinning with table cloths and very polite servers. We ordered NY stakes($ 31.00 ea), one medium rare and the other medium. Both came out just the way they should. So I give the Chef high marks for knowing how to cook a steak. The only criticism about the meat was it could have had a little more seasoning but that is just personal taste. The salads was OK, nothing fancy though. Nick our server was great and checked on us regularly and the Chef even cam out to see how we liked the food. You have to look for the Shadows Steak House as it is behind a liquor store and the old Long John Silvers but worth the hunt. This is the kind of place that only the«locals» know about. I recommend the Shadows for a nice dinner that way it use to be served.

Mashed potatoes had a very strange taste and the glass of milk we ordered was so sour it smelled awful!!! Otherwise our meals were okay. Ordered two chicken dishes and a steak. Garlic bread was delicious! BUTBEVERYCAREFULHERE!!! A couple days later we received notification from our credit card company that our number had been stolen and used to make several purchases at local Stockton stores!!! This is the only place we had used our card in the past 2 months!

Mash potatoes terrible, salad dressing to watery, music from the bar very loud, hard to enjoy a meal in such busy party atmosphere.

In years past, we came here but it has been closed for several years. We are pleased that it has reopened. The service was excellent. My filet mignon was cooked to medium rare perfection. My wife enjoyed the salmon. Also, the dessert was very good.

This hidden gem makes me want to come back! The light entertaining live music paired well with the spirits available. The food was a welcomed surprise and while huge portions give the bang to the buck, the taste was just as wonderful. The chef came to check on the satisfaction of his preparations. The hostess was delightful and extremely attentive. They had a two person wait staff and while the tables were assigned both the staff constantly scanned the room for patrons whom needed service. We will definatley keep this place in our favorites and recommend to anyone wanting a good steak.

Our first visit to this hidden gem was a great experience. The menu is simple but has a nice variety and though there was a split charge the plates each had a generous portion of potatoes and vegetables. Our steak was properly cooked and seasoned ; delicious and eye-pleasing meal from appetizer to dessert. We shared a nice bottle of wine. We had a great meal at a good price. Service was excellent We will be back to enjoy again.

What a wonderful dining experience! My husband I took a friend to the Shadows for her 88th birthday. We were amazed with how beautiful it was from the moment we opened the door. Everyone was so friendly and they made you feel so welcome. Now for the food and service. It was impeccable. From the moment we sat down until we left. If you want to have a wonderful dining experience you should make reservations soon so you may enjoy what we did. Please don’t forget to check out the bar too.=)

Had dinner, drinks and dessert with friends. It was a very nice dining experience. My eggplant parmigiana was great. My husband said the filet was great and cooked as ordered. My friends loved the lamb chops and calamari. The drinks are made well. The service is great. The Crème brûlée was awesome. I recommend this place for dinner or just to hang out with friends in the bar where Ralph performs. The prices are very reasonable as well. We had a very nice time and we will return.

Meh, I was really looking forward to taking my brother to a nice steakhouse. I saw Shadows Steakhouse under ‘hot and new businesses’ but realized later it was just reopened. I thought the set up of the place was very awk, there was a very weird waiting area with no seating, the bar area was also porrly set up. We waited about 45 minutes for our table. We had few different servers and the service was decent. The food was average, nothing special. I dont think we’ll be back.

Food and Service were very good. It’s a steakhouse but I was intrigued by the scampi. They offer traditional and their spin, so I took a chance. It was delicious. My only regret was that I could not sop the sauce up with a nice piece of bread, because I am gluten intolerant and forgot to bring my own bread. The other dishes at our table of 6 all looked good and were enjoyed. The portions were generous. When one of our party accidentally knocked over her water glass, the waitstaff quickly and soliticiously moved us to a clean, dry table. It was a Saturday evening, we were there after the symphony. As the evening progressed, the bar got busier and more lively. There was and entertainment guy who sang Sinatra type stuff. He was good, people were dancing. However, when we were moved to the dry table we were in direct line with the bar and music and it was loud. Conversation became difficult. If you want a quiet dinner pick a night with no entertainment, or sit sheltered from the noise. It’s worth a visit and a revisit.

I’m a long time customer of the Shadows and thrilled Jose reopened it! I’ve been in several times since the reopening and I’m pleased at the quality of the food and wonderful service! My favorite appetizer so far is the calamari strips!!! The pasta was great and so was the prime rib & lobster! I try and eat here whenever I’m in town for dinner. Great memories… Fresh new start!

What a great experience with my family. Be sure to ask for Dolly; as your waitress. The service was wonderful and the food was great. We tried the lamb chops, the rib eye, and the scampi. All the above was excellent. Our favorite out of the three was the rib eye. Although the location is a tad hard to find, it was well worth the effort!

1st Annual Restaurant Week in Stockton and I want steak. We made a reservation for 9 and when we arrived we were split into 2 tables. A booth and a table of 6. Now from the get-go we were not happy. It made the two groups seem so distant and awkward from one another. So we asked if the tables can be moved; instead the waitress insisted that we move the tables OURSELVES. As for the food review. The house salad dressing(Champagne Pear Vinaigrette) was not very strong in taste. I ordered the $ 25 Bison Rib Eye and it was very fatty but more tender than the Kobe Top Sirloin. Everyone else at my table ordered the Top Sirloin and complained about how it was too dry or it wasn’t cooked to their satisfaction. Also the potatoes that came with the Top Sirloin were burnt. I didn’t like the blue cheese on the steak, but then again I don’t like cheese. The dessert was Chocolate Mousse Parfait, and well it just tasted like a chocolate cake from Safeway topped with whipped cream put into a wine glass. So where did they go wrong other than the previously mentioned criticism? They served us ONE basket of bread among 9 people, and each basket has 4 – 5 slices of bread. I guess we all have to fight for it then. During the dinner, the water glasses were not filled unless we asked. The waiter also forgot that we hadn’t had dessert after we finished our dinner for 10 minutes. Also on Friday nights, they offered Tequila tastings and the girls didn’t even bother to stop by our table, when we look older than the other people there(but I guess that’s not the restaurant’s fault). In the end, the dinner was not that exciting. It was only exciting because of the company. However to end this review«well» the waiter was kind enough to allow us to split the checks 9 ways. Overall, I wouldn’t really recommend this place for the food. The atmosphere… I suppose. If you want some good steak and have a fat wallet, go to El Rancho Ranch House. The meat is SO much better.
