Back again and man was this a killer TX. BBQ meal. Chose the 2 meat combo for $ 15 chicken & Baby Back ribs along with the BBQ corn & baked beans. The owner was nice enough to toss in a sausage for me to try too. You can’t go wrong with this spot!

I just ate here within the last half hour and they have the best Baby Back Ribs I’ve had in a long time. Just what you’d expect from a smoker in a parking lot under a tent, delicious tender ribs served with a great attitude.

Tasty, tasty, tasty! But… unfortunately, I have a couple of problems: price and availability. Positives: 1. Nice selection of beef & pork ribs, tri-tip, brisket, 2 kinds of sausages, and chicken. 2. Side orders: beans, corn, potato salad, cucumber salad, zucchini, and cole slaw. 3. The smokey flavor of the meats I tried were fantastic. In particular, the pork ribs were cooked to perfection, with a good dry rub. 4. I liked the BBQ sauce. 5. Friendly service. 6. A USC fan. Negatives: 1. Price point of $ 15 for 1 or 2 meats, plus 2 sides is too high for a take-away, BBQ in the parking lot. 2. Selections are wonderful, but only when they are more than listed on the menu. If you are ‘out’, who the hell cares? I wanted brisket and zucchini, and both were out. 3. There is one table to sit out, so you’re pretty much forced to take to go, or eat in your car. Summary: I wouldn’t go out of my way to come to a parking lot to get high-priced BBQ to go. However, if I were to cater a function, I would consider giving this a shot.

I’ve been all over the USA, trying barbecue from all sorts of hole-in-the-wall down home spots in the dirty south, Detroit, Texas, you name it… so I know good BBQ when I taste it. The meat that comes out of the smoker at Texas Best BBQ is OUTSTANDING. I tried it for the first time this Sunday. The tri-tip is sooooooo good. So juicy and flavorful inside. Mmmmmmmmm! The outside was perfectly smoky, with the right amount of seasoning. I haven’t had tri-tip that good in a while! I also tried the chicken. Dave asked me if I wanted the dark meat or white meat. Well OBVIOUSLY I wanted the dark meat… that’s where all the flavor lies! Besides, white meat dries up too easily — not my thing. The chicken WAS really good. It was so damn smoky and flavorful, even on the inside. I really loved it. It made me feel like I was eating some chicken that I barbecued in the backyard of my mom’s house. Sooo bangin. The sides I tried were potato salad and corn on the cob. Both were really good. Dave said all their sides are made fresh, and the corn was really smoky as well. I can’t wait to go back. I think I’m gonna be a regular over here!!! Oh yeah, for $ 15 you get a TON of food. Seriously, I couldn’t even finish it and I’m fat as hell. If you like bbq like I do, man up and get down with a plate of Texas Best BBQ. I’ll probably see you there on Thursday. And maybe on Saturday or Sunday. This spot is BANGIN.

Our family LOVES ‘Q. We’ve eaten at nearly every BBQ joint, stand and restaurant in and around L.A. We only disagree on 1 place, but I’m not here to review the Bear Pit. Last Sunday I was driving down Moorpark, saw the smoke which provoked my appetite and had to stop. I got chicken, beef ribs, baby backs, brisket, potato salad, cole slaw and some rolls. Everything was really good: the chicken had the perfect smoke flavor through and through as did the other meats. After I added salt to my potato salad, it was perfect. Everyone loved it. We’ll be back!

Great BBQ and for $ 15 a plate this place can’t be beat. The Tri-tip is outstanding, and the beef ribs are absolutely delicious. The guys that run it are extremely helpful, nice, and wont hesitate to let you try anything on the menu. Trust me when I say they pile the food onto your plate, I can’t say I have ever been disappointed leaving there and my stomach tends to agree after I finish the plate. Definitely try this place out if you love BBQ, it’s worth it! I’ve been in the area for about 3 weeks and I’ve eaten there no less then 8 times — I’m hooked. They are open Thursday — Sunday 3 — 8, so it’s perfect for a late lunch or dinner. 5⁄5

So, I was having a craving for BBQ so I turned to Unilocal and see that these guys are right down the street and thought I would give it a go. I pull into the parking lot of M&M Market and see the set up and I’m not so sure. Sat in my car for a while and almost left because my gut was telling me to go elsewhere but I didn’t listen. My first problem with this place is that it’s a flat rate of $ 15 a plate regardless of what you get, links or ribs you are paying $ 15. Which for BBQ from a parking lot is pretty outrageous to me. But at this point I’m committed so I went for the half chicken with 2 sides. I’ll start with the chicken. It was pretty much inedible. It was so dry that even the BBQ sauce couldn’t help it out. My cat wouldn’t even eat it! And it was really salty and it left a taste that I even taste now a day later and that’s not a good thing. The sides… I got the baked beans and cucumber salad. Out of this $ 15 meal the only thing that was ok was the cucumber salad but really how can you mess up cucumbers? The beans weren’t «baked» at all. They were under cooked and flavorless. Over cooked chicken, under cooked beans. Just gross. Highly disappointing. They charge too much for something that I had to toss in the trash. That’s right, I barely ate it before deciding that I just couldn’t eat it at all, so I basically tossed $ 15 in the trash. Texas best it is not, I would say they didn’t do Texas BBQ justice, in fact they made Texas BBQ look and taste down right bad.

My wife and I were at the Arco at Moorpark and Coldwater Canyon, considering what we were going to have to eat, as hunger pangs were developing. I noticed an EZ-up across the street in the M&M Market parking lot, but didn’t think much of it – must be Trojan fans up to something. Then I noticed smoke. And it was coming from a BBQ trailer. Time to investigate! It was Dave & Romero’s Texas Best BBQ – their first weekend, I think. They had brought the trailer from Texas and were having a go in LA. Okay… let’s have some ‘que. We split an order of brisket and went back to our truck to eat it, as there were no tables or utensils – strictly take-out. Here’s the rundown: The brisket was okay – not great, but serviceable. What helped was the BBQ sauce on the side, which they claimed was a 100-year-old family recipe. Could be – it was very spicy… not just hot, spicy. Very good! The baked beans had baked tomatoes mixed in with them… a nice touch that brought things up a notch. Also with the meat was some sliced baked potato – another cool surprise! I’m saving the best for last, though. They also threw in a couple of bite of their links. These were absolutely amazing. Spicy, a bit of heat, and a great snappy casing. The sausage was coarsely ground, so you really feel like you’re eating something substantial. Next time, that’s what I’m getting!
