Liking this place more and more. It’s a small place but has a good mom-and-pop feel. Server(who’s probably the owner and chef too) makes you feel welcome and seems eager to please. My friends love the chicken vindaloo. I love the chicken Tikka Masala and best Naan I’ve had. I could just sit and dip the Naan over and over in the Tikka Masala sauce. .ok, I did exactly that! Veggie pakora is god, too, and quite large.

Excellent food. Being a huge fan of take out I was excited to find out that they now offer delivery.

My wife and I went to the Taj Mahal today and went for the lunch buffet — Outstanding! Nice selection of vegetarian and meat dishes plus appetizers, salad, and dessert. We were told some of the buffet selections change on some days. We’ll be back for another buffet!

Amazing Indian food. Doesn’t get the attention it deserves because it’s off the main street

Chewy flavorless lamb; chicken that reminded me of McDonald’s. Spinach pakora was just ok. Chickpeas dish was blah. Generally, it just felt like a low-quality joint catering to people(students) who don’t know the difference. Disappointing.

Taj Mahal catered our wedding on June 21st, 2015! It was magnificent. Merwin and his team did an amazing job with the food, and organization. We received nothing but compliments. Highly recommended for lunch, dinner, and catering. We have moved away since then, and deeply miss Taj Mahal. Sonia and Matt

I came here for the lunch buffet with my colleagues. The restaurant itself is a small«hole in the wall» just off Delmar. Unlike most of the Indian buffets I’ve been to, Taj Mahal had a comparatively small selection. Individually, however, each dish was tastier. I’d much rather have a small buffet with quality food over many mediocre dishes.

Just a little hole in the wall place, but give it a shot. Food here is great. Really liked the korma, saag, and gobi aloo.

This restaurant has an intimate vibe. A friend and I went when the restaurant wasn’t busy, and we received exceptional and attentive service. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to make sure that my friend and I had a very pleasant experience. Their lamb saagwala is to die for. Lamb can be cooked very wrong, but they did it just right! It was my first time trying the dish and I would definitely eat it again. I only wish I knew how to make it myself. Their portions are very generous, so make sure to bring a slew of friends and family and then share(sharing is caring!). Sample from each other’s plates and enjoy a few different tasty options. Come on an empty stomach, leave full.

Went to lunch here on a Friday. It was buffet style and cost $ 8.99 plus tax. The food was very delicious, and the restaurant was pretty small but crowded. I really like the vegetable curry and the chicken vindaloo. The naan was also good, even though it was plain. I definitely recommend this place especially for how cheap it was!

I hosted a Bollywood night and decided to get carry-out instead of cooking. I ordered 10 entrees(4 lamb biryani, 4 chicken tikka masala, 2 palak paneer) for 7 people, hoping there would be enough to send people home with some leftovers — we barely finished 4 of the entrees! People took food home for the rest of the weekend. Naan and samosas were delicious as well. For many of my guests, it was their first experience with Indian food, and they loved it! I called in the afternoon requesting pick-up at a certain time, and all the food was packed up and hot when I arrived. Will definitely be back here!

Delicious, affordable, large portions. Can’t beat the lunch buffet deal, but I still come for dinner because of the nice servers and the prefect amount of spice in the food.

Although the food was delicious, the number of options were very less compared to any other lunch buffet in st louis. they only had 2 non-veg and 3 veg options in main course… thats not a buffet. But, whatever i had was so tasty, expecially the nan here was pretty authentic and not the fat rubbery nan some other indian restaurants here serve. gulab jamun was also great… none of the places i have gone to in st louis makes proper gulab jamun… ambience is very average, with little space for sitting and kitchen visible from dining place. So, it is not a dining place, but just an eating place. I would never go back to this place again…

Thank goodness for drafts. My boyfriend and i came here not long after they opened and they’re pretty good! A lot of the furniture look like same furniture as boosters so it was odd but it amused me. We ordered lamb vindaloo, lamb saagwala and paneer pakora to start. I wasn’t a huge fan of the pakora but i think i’m just weird about paneer in general. The lamb dishes, however, were fantastic. I hadn’t had vindaloo for a while so I was really pleased. By the time we finished eating, i was really stuffed and we had a little left over. YAY for decent portion sizes! I’ll come back here again when I want decent non-vegetarian indian food at a not fancy looking place.

I was incredibly happy with the Indian food and the service here! I have no idea why there are not more reviews, or why we were the ONLY customers there at the restaurant at 7PM — 8PM(dinner time). Must have been a slow day… but their food was damn good! I have been craving GOOD Indian food since discovering my Nirvana of Indian cuisine in Ann Arbor, Michigan. No other Indian restaurants in Texas that I have tried came close to the one in Ann Arbor… except for dear Taj Mahal! If you crave authentic, GOOD, and AFFORDABLE Indian cuisine, you have arrived at the right spot. What is great is that their prices are significantly cheaper than the other fancy Indian restaurant in St. Louis(I believe the name is Rasoi?). First of all, the MANGOLASSI was freakin’ amazing! Great drink to quench your thirst on a hot, summer day in St. Louis. Oh god, the dreaded humidity… For the appetizer, we got the VEGETABLESAMOSAS. So yummy. So full of crunchyness and potatoes. It was still crunchy the next day after!!! Magic and a rarity. We also ordered the TIKKAMASALA — it came in a bowl of deliciousness with complimentary plate of rice. They definitely were NOT stingy with the rice. The chicken was also SOOOOOOO tender and the curry was just full of RIGHT. I loved it!!! Last dish that we tried out was the LAMBBIRYANI — so, so good. A bit oily, but freakin’ good. One of the best biryani I have ever tasted. I also had a bunch of leftover to take for my lunch and dinner the next day… I’m going to try out the dessert next time, but we were so full. We even took a bunch to-go, and the extremely friendly waiter gave us another take-out box of FREERICE. WHATTHEHECK! Who does that! We loved him so much! The service was great, and he came to fill our water and asked us if we need anything at all the RIGHT moments. You’ve just gained a very loyal and happy fan, Taj Mahal. :)

Taj Mahal is a small Indian restaurant tucked into the side of the busy intersection of the WashU walkway and the Delmar Loop. Small however does not mean small on quality. I came here for the lunch buffet on a weekday. There were six main choices besides a salad, a rice pudding dessert, naan, and rice. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty, but it was near the end of their lunch buffet(ends at 2:30). Surprisingly, their lunch buffet trays were still full and looked fresh. The waiter immediately greeted us and sat us down while calling for fresh naan. That was pretty impressive. What sets Taj Mahal apart from other Indian buffets in the area is the quality of its food. The naan was very soft and buttery. The tandoori chicken was especially tender and juicy, whereas in most other Indian buffets I’ve been to, their chicken has shriveled up. The chicken masala was different but good. It was creamy but not excessively so. Instead it had a stronger tomato flavor that balanced out the cream well. Their side sauces were fresh, as was their salad. The rice pudding was delicate. The service was excellent, though we were the only customers. What is lacking at Taj Mahal is the variety that larger restaurants serve. With a smaller selection, there’s only so many times you can go before you start to get sick of it. Also despite the higher quality food comparatively, it was not outstanding. For $ 9.86 incl tax for lunch buffet, Taj Mahal is a filling, home-cooked-quality option for lunch with excellent service. They could benefit from additional options.
