my husband and I have been going there for years. we have tried other places that have a nicer location and ambiance but the quality and taste is the best in the Bay Area. A hidden gem.

I love the authenticity of La Cabanita, which really shows in the quality of their food. It’s a small place in a fairly busy strip mall. Inside, a lady will take your order with a smile. In the kitchen, you will find an elderly lady cooking orders as they arrive. You just get that feeling that you’re important and that they want to please you. They do that by being friendly and by serving you a good meal. As for their dishes, they made me a fan of menudo. I did not used to like menudo, typically staying with more familiar choices like enchilada, tacos, and burrito(all of which I have ordered and have been impressed with). I don’t think you can go wrong with the menu. If you have questions, feel free to ask. Your server will likely answer your questions candidly and recommend something that you might enjoy.

Do you ever ask a wait person, «Is that any good ?» when getting ready to order something? And have you ever had them say, «No, I’d stay away from that today.»? Well, that’s why La Cabanita gets five stars. One of the waitresses steered me away from a star-deducting experience, I’m sure. This is a good, solid family-owned Mexican place, not fancy, but very trustworthy in the food department. Don’t go for the ambiance, it’s in a strip mall. Best dishes on the menu in my opinion: Birria Chicken Soup(traditional, did I mention that they have HANDMADE corn tortillas ?) Shrimp Cocktail(yes with ketchup and Saltines) Grilled Chicken Breast lunch special. Where else is it OK to drink beer at 7:30 in the morning? I don’t do it, but inevitably I see people in there drinking beer when I’m having breakfast.
