My husband and I came here based on a recommendation. We were very disappointed. The breakfast menu consisted of about 5 choices. There were no potatoes of any kind which we like with our breakfast. The biscuits were very flat and square and dry. While they were served hot with butter and jelly on the side you really couldn’t use them because the biscuits were too flat. The portions were very small as well.

Unimpressed. Maybe I was expecting more. It is more of a blue plate special, get what you’re served, way old, biscuit and tea room. Very small menu, very small portions. But the pie was incredible and came with the«blue plate special»

My family loves coming here for breakfast while on vacation in Williamsburg. It is a unique dining experience with a terrific and welcoming atmosphere. I love the colonial Decore and the food is fantastic! We always enjoy shopping in the gift shop after we eat and we always find some unique items there. My daughter loves to find Melinda, the cat, while shopping!

What a joke. This place had high ratings so came here early for lunch. WARNING apparently you need reservations here. Brought my wife here for her birthday at 11:05am and was told without being on the list couldn’t get in until 1:00 cant imagine it’s worth all that. We won’t be back. Hostess pushed us out the door just not the Williamsburg experience were used too. Love Williamsburg but won’t spend our dollars here.

I was looking forward to trying this restaurant. Never again will I go or recommend this restaurant to anyone I know. I have never posted a review and I had to after seeing all the great reviews for this restaurant. Over prized for the amount and quality of the food. The waitress did not come to our table for at least 20 minutes and acted like we just appeared. My daughter had the Melinda special because that is what everyone told us to order. Small ramekin of the stew that didn’t have any flavor. 2 square biscuits that were lacking much ham, a salad that consisted of a pineapple ring and half a peach from a can with some sort of white cream. Not impressed. The coffee was horrible and the only decent thing was the pie. Not worth the $ 10.95. Cute house, nice people, but NOT a restaurant I would ever try again. Gave it a 1 star because it was a cute house, that is it!!!

I found this restaurant while Googling around for good breakfast in Williamsburg. It used to be a tea room, so it is very quaint and homey, it reminded me of a bed and breakfast. The waitress we had was excellent. I really wanted to like this place, but the menu was very short and the food was just okay. They are known for their ham and biscuits, but the ham is salty and the biscuits are thin and flat. My family prefers turkey bacon and they don’t sell turkey bacon. There is a gift shop, which I looked through and bought a nice birthday card that had a wine bottle on it with the year of the recipient’s birth on it. If you are considering this restaurant, I recommend looking at the menu first. It could be a nice place for coffee and dessert.

A solid three star place to eat; the other half of the restaurant is an antique/craft store. Went here with friends and had the Miss Melinda’s Special ~ $ 12 before tip. It starts with unlimited refills of coffee or tea(I had unsweetened iced tea, but sweet tea is also available). The first course is a fruit salad best described as a half peach and one pineapple ring(the kind you would find in a can of Del Monte sans most of the syrup) sitting over a bed of two romaine lettuce leaves, sprinkled with a generous amount of cheddar cheese and glazed with what looked to be ranch dressing. Not quite what I was expecting but surprisingly edible. The main course consists of two ham biscuit sandwiches made of thick slices of ham contained in flat, rectangular, still fresh/warm and crumbly biscuits and a cup of tomato-based«Brunswick» stew. The stew added flavor and balanced the somewhat dry biscuit and cured ham. Dessert in the form of homemade pie comes included with the special. I went with a slice of custardy coconut pie, a popular choice. Good service; payment made at the register, Visa/MasterCard accepted.

I cannot say enough good things about this place. First of all, there is a super friendly and adorable cat named Melinda that wanders around the gift shop. My fiancé commented that she should be named smudge because she has a single black streak on an otherwise white muzzle. You should definitely call ahead to get your name on the list, it fills up fast. They only do breakfast and lunch since they close at 2:30. The atmosphere of this place is just great. It is literally in a house — you can see where each of the rooms are sectioned off. The food is yummy. I’ve been there twice and both times I had Ms. Melinda’s special. It’s coffee/tea, fruit salad(this was actually strange — we got a peach half with two pineapple slices, covered in shredded cheese with ranch. It was tasty!), hot ham on biscuits, Brunswick Stew, and a piece of pie. Oh, the pie. I ordered buttermilk pie and it was DELICIOUS. My fiancé had chocolate pie and it was really good, too. It wasn’t chocolate pudding from a box, that’s for sure. If you’re in Williamsburg, you absolutely must go to this place. One more thing, the service is exceptional. They treat you like family, which is why we tipped 100%!

Oh dear! Came here for breakfast and this was by far the worst dining experience we had at Williamsburg. The food can best be described as «cafeteria food» quality. They do lay on the southern charm rather thick. To the point that it seems fake! Thought I was at Disney land for a while! Never been called«honey» at such rapid fire pace in my life! Bottom line: not the best food. Coffee was truck stop swill and the experience was a dud. The A/C was cold and a welcome break at least

Very busy as we drove up. That’s always a good sign to us. We were welcomed and sweet tea arrived immediately. We had Miss Melinda’s special lunch. The food was very good the service excellent the setting just as advertised. And btw the cat was not in the restaurant and was lovable. We plan to return.

This place came highly recommended by our friends from the area. We had high expectation of a nice home cooked meal. We had the chicken and dumplings and burnswick stew. It was adequate but not amazing. The service was efficient and friendly. Didn’t have the deserts but they looked good.

Yummmmmmmm! My husband and I have been here twice for breakfast on a Sunday and would LOVE to go back for lunch! There is a bit of a wait to get a table but don’t worry… there’s a great little(actually its bigger than the entire dining area) gift shop attached for pre-breakfast browsing. I’ve bought a cashmere scarf here for $ 20 along with several other cute little items. If you are even slightly claustrophobic, obese(as in 300+ lbs) or are traveling with several unruly screaming children… do not eat here. The dining rooms are throughout several little rooms in the house. Most of the tables a small(and very very close) and the chairs can be even smaller(hence the warning). It is absolutely adorable and cozy and makes you feel like you’re eating at grandmas house. The menu has many options including MIMOSAS! I have ordered Miss Melinda’s Pancakes and a side of ham each time and was very happy. My husband ordered the same thing with sausage and was also very happy. He lucked out because there was a piece of bacon stuck to the bottom of one of his pancakes(lucky)!! All of the staff and the waitresses are extremely friendly and your cup of coffee will never be empty. It’s worth the wait(maybe not an hour wait) and we would eat here again the next time we are in Williamsburg.

The food was good and service not so great the people were very nice just unorganized and food came out at all different times. Breakfast gets cold quick so timing is critical. The breakfast is simple and traditional southern. Their biscuits are yummy, but different. They are thin and rectangular, but buttery and scrumptious.

I’m a septuagenarian from Virginia so have fairly high standards for Brunswick Stew and ham biscuits. The Brunswick Stew at the Chickahominy gets high marks if not like Mom used to make. The country ham was OK but I prefer real biscuits rather than the flat bread that serves for biscuits at the Chickahominy. The buttermilk pie is very good as is the coffee. The service was excellent. All in all the Chickahominy is worth a visit not only for the food but also for a stroll after your meal through their antique shop. We will stop there again.

Great Williamsburg institution. Has a lot of character. It was really nice/special to have a multi-course lunch! I got Miss Melinda’s Special, and I really like the way it was served, in courses. I ordered the sugar-free pie, which is NOT made with artificial sweeteners. It is just actually made without added sugar. It was a little bland, but I really appreciate that this option exists. The ham biscuits and the Brunswick stew were delicious.

My husband and I went to breakfast for the first time trying this place on a Friday morning and the restaurant wasn’t too busy. After reading previous reviews I agree that the wait staff are both friendly and extremely accommodating. The owner or a manager stopped by all the tables to make sure your meal was good as well. My husband’s coffee cup was constantly being filled and we were both checked on many times. The food came out fast as well. My husband got the plantation breakfast and I tried the Creamed Ham on biscuits. That is a dish similar to chipped beef on toast but made with the salty ham the restaurant serves. I choose it over the flat biscuits which was made with two biscuits cut in half. It was filling and very good! I addd one pancake for us to share. The pancake looked so good and it didn’t disappoint. I would say they were fluffy with a rich texture, so they would be very filling. The biscuits are different as I have never seen anything like it but the flavor was the same as any traditional biscuit.

Really good food. Their«fruit salad» must be a regional delicacy because it reminded of growing up and seeing my Va-born grandmother put mayo on canned peaches. The stew had a tang to it, I can’t quite describe but it tasted good. The country ham and biscuits is what brought me here and they didn’t disappoint. Sweet tea is good and they just keep pouring. I love that the dessert is built in the price. The waitresses are attentive and nice. I will be coming back probably this week!

Now that I’m safely back on the West Coast I’ll write my review of this old time standard, as I don’t want the locals going cray-cray on me. So, I get the entire Southern hospitality thing, sweet tea, Missy this and sir that, free refills, pie with your meals, plates being cleared by an older gentleman who always asked to excuse himself whenever he reached across you for a dish or had to make a refill. What I don’t get are the«biscuits»… In short, they come up flat. As in flat as a pancake or maybe a hoe cake, whatever this style of «biscuit» is I’m not a fan. I opted for the Miss Melinda’s Special — Cup of Brunswick Stew, Old Virginia Ham on Hot Biscuits, Fruit Salad, Homemade Pie, Coffee or Tea, for a dollar more I was offered a bowl of the stew, which I decide to get, good thing I did. The stew was more of a soup, it was okay, nothing really special and then those«biscuits» which in actuality are basically just pita bread. Salty shingles of ham were stuffed into the pita bread, and that was it, pretty basic, and lacking. The best part of our meal was the pie! MIL and I opted for the Buttermilk pie, which was a lemon custard type, it was wonderful and saved the day. The«antique» shop next door was strange, lots of reproductions and stuff that didn’t seem all that«old»…cute shop cat… We waited 14 years to get to try this place, I’m glad it wasn’t on my bucket list.

I giggle with delight when I think of this place. It was the perfect beginning to my day as I explored Jamestown settlement. What a gem this place is. I felt like I had walked into a new world when I sat down for breakfast. The whole place was so sweet. It was located in an old home that was half restaurant, half gift store. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a wonderful, aging black woman named Virginia. She was so pleasant, asking me about what brought me to the area, bright eyed and alone. I told her of my plans to see Jamestown and she told me she was baptized in a river around there. I should have gotten a picture of her. I had to try the Old Virginia ham and I heard the biscuits were amazing. All in all it was breakfast. The ham was good, the biscuits were uniquely shaped but there was nothing outstanding about the taste. The eggs were runny, the way I like them. It was a good meal. The service is what made it a fantastic place to be. I was asked more times than needed if I needed anything else, how was my breakfast, did I need more coffee, from several people. Everyone said good morning, I was seated immediately, they let me wonder around and take pictures and the lady who ran the gift shop forewarned me about heading out early enough so I wouldn’t miss my flight on the way back across the river.
