I too am sorry to see this place go. I thought the food was great and I love the fact that I can get breakfast any time of day. Although the juke box plays CD and not old 45s, I love the fact they had them all over the place. Brings back memories of childhood. It’s a shame. Hope it comes back.

Wow I must have eaten here at the right time. Both times I’ve been the service has been good and the food has been good too. My girlfriend and I really liked their milk shakes, but they appear closed now.

WTH is wrong with this place? I try it about once a year in the hopes that it gets better and it just doesn’t. I truly can’t believe that they’re still in business. There is such a need for a place to get breakfast anytime — and I’m not talking until 1:00 p.m. when all the other places close. I mean, if you’re open, I want to be able to order whatever I want. That’s what diners are for! This place should be bumpin all the time but the problem? The food sucks and the staff don’t give a crap. Owners of the 5 and diner, do yourselves a favor and sell this place to someone who can run a restaurant! And want to run a restaurant! And want to do it right! It needs a good scrubbing, cooks that know how to cook and servers that want to serve. Until next year…

I can not justify coming here for any meal other than breakfastt. The lunch and dinner menu is too limited and not impressive. The make your own omelet was delicious. The home fries were tasty. Service was incredibly slow and inattentive. The server did place the order as asked. Breakfast 3 stars. Lunch or dinner 2. Service and friendliness 1.

I have been to this diner on several occasions, on my last two recent visits the food was cold, I ordered the biscuits and gravy … NASTY and my eggs was also cold so I asked the waitress to reheat them… I do not know what she used but when she came back they were still cold, so my husband and I was out and about last Saturday so he suggested that we go there again… I ordered the chili dog BIGMISTAKE how do you not know how to cook a hot dog? The hot dog was cold it taste like they stuck it in the microwave for as long as it would take to melt the cheese… I would really have to think about going back again, I am giving them 2 stars because I like the 50’s theme that they have going on …

Just another chain diner franchise, which unfortunately doesn’t do much in an area filled with the authentic thing. The menu is huge, but food is just average at best. If you never saw a diner before, this might be nice, but for new england it feels like a vegas rip-off.

On two(2) recent visits to the area I had time to kill before meetings and had breakfast here. The diner is about as authentic as a Dennys but was interesting and clean. One odd thing is that they don;t open until 7am and seems to do just a light business. I ordered scrambled eggs, home fries once, has browns the next with toast and coffee. The eggs were cooked just right, The home fries seemed like they were frozen, deep fried potatoes and then grilled with onions and pepper. They were decent. The hash browns on the next visit were a plentiful oval of fried shredded potatoes. Coffee was New England brand coffee and was very good. Service was frendly, prompt and my coffee was always refilled. I was even offered a cup to go. This place is a solid location for breakfast.

Holy nasty this was one of the worst meals I have ever had! My mother got the meatloaf and said no bacon. Guess what came on top? BACON! Then she almost gagged on the food. It was horrible. I got the open turkey sandwich. The entire plate was covered in gravy and it was so over salted and tasted worse than a Swanson turkey dinner. The best part of the meal was the canned cranberry sauce on the side. The waitress was so slow and my mother’s coffee had a hair on the mug. I pulled it off when she wasn’t looking so she didn’t freak out. Horrible meal. Never go here. Go to a real diner somewhere else!

Nice place, decent service. Kind of a limited breakfast menu. It has the all the staple items, I just like options… lots of them. Service was decent. We found it to be overly loud for a breakfast spot that wasn’t all that busy. Décor is spot on if that’s your deal. It really captures the old diner feel. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go again, but I wouldn’t avoid it.

It’s a FAKEDINER in the heart of the place that gave birth to the real diner. There are at least six real diners in Worcester– why in the world would anyone come to this manufactured mess? It’s like planning a trip to Europe and then heading to Epcot at Disney. Get real.

The parking lot has always been busy here during our previous visits to the shopping plaza(Lincoln Plaza). Maybe we should have turned around when we saw the parking lot was empty for our maiden visit. It was one of the cleanest restaurants we’ve been to but that could just bee the lack of customers. The food was just OK, certainly nothing special. We each had meat and egg combos. There was plenty of food to go around and most of it came out appropriately cooked. Mrs B made the mistake of getting a biscuit with her meal that came out ice cold. Neither of us cared for the tangerine colored, strangely seasoned potatoes. I’m willing to bet they were straight out of the package. The only thing that saved this visit from a terrible review. Our server was quite perky and extremely attentive, checking up on us throughout our meal. I think we’ll pass on another visit for lunch or dinner.

I feel the same way a lot of people do about describing this place in terms of vibe — it is a chain, but small enough that it’s certainly nothing I had ever heard of before not really having left metro Boston. So I think it would satisfy a «no mega-restaurants that just reheat prefab meals» rule on a road trip. All diners serve the same food, but some of their options get quite on the expansive side of being classic American dinners(turkey and cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes with gravy and all that). The mentality of the chain definitely comes from a place of fat people — at every possible opportunity, our server tried to upsell us by doubling the size of everything, covering it in fucking gravy and adding extra stuff that is terrible for you. But there was a lot of stuff on the menu that was heartier than pure fried oil and potatoes — and I appreciated that. I found the prices to be reasonable. I could take or leave places that beat you over the head with period 50’s stuff, but let me put it to you this way: We were between destinations, somewhere in Worcester, and we didn’t want to go to god damn Applebee’s or something, and this place didn’t bum us out.

I dunno about this place. I’ve been there about 4 times now and I just find everything to be mediocre. I like what they try to do with the décor but it doesn’t overcome the just blahness of the food and the slightly above average prices they charge.

It is what it is — It’s a diner, it’s not gourmet food. Although, they do try to make it a cut above, it’s still just diner food. I went here with a client because they have free wi-fi and we needed someplace to hang for a bit over an hour. We had lunch — pot pie(good nothing special) and a BLT, which is just what you would expwct from a diner. For being what it is it is a bit overpriced, People usually go here for the nostalia of the 50s concept and not so much for a gourmet meal.

Driving down 290 towards Worcester, my mom and I were getting hungry and spotted the 5& Diner panel amongst other restaurants on a blue sign. So we got off the highway and found the 5& Diner in a shopping plaza(Lowe’s/Target/Dick’s). The 5& Diner is a corporate chain and not a mom & pop diner. We took a step back into the 50s as soon as we entered the diner. The place was very busy around lunchtime. The diner was decked out with red & white vinyl booths, tile floors, Texaco gas pump, jukebox, mini jukebox at each booth, & red neon lighting. We could hear 50s music playing in the background. The menu offers typical diner fare for breakfast(served all day), lunch, and dinner. Daily specials are posted and they offer desserts including cheesecake, cakes, and apple pie that are«better than homemade.» The prices are a bit high since you’re paying for the atmosphere. If you’re a senior over 60, then the senior menu offers food at very reasonable prices. Okay, we start off with two soda pops($ 2.29 each), a Diet Coke and Sprite. My mom orders off the senior menu, Blueplate Special Turkey Sandwich with a cup of New England Clam Chowder($ 4.99). I order the Chicken Pot Pie with a side salad($ 7.99). The place was really hopping and the food took about 20 minutes to come out. The waitress brought out only one set of utensils and forgot the second set, but no biggie since my mom was having a sandwich. The turkey sandwich served with lettuce & tomato on toasted whole wheat bread was pretty good. The clam chowder was very rich with lots of potatoes and some minced clams. The chicken pot pie was served piping hot, baked in a soup bowl with dark meat chicken, carrots, potato. & peas and a flaky pastry crust top. The salad was the typical iceberg with red onions. I got a free refill on Sprite as I enjoyed my lunch. We were content with the meal and skipped the«better than homemade» desserts.

In the bathroom there was a kid taking a piss, maybe 8 years old, singing along with the 50s era tunes cranked out in this recreation of a 50s era diner. The bright colors and flashing lights may distract you from the dirty floors. If you’ve got a kid who likes the popular music from the 1950s, then skip Friendly’s and come here. Otherwise, I’d go someplace else. The food is expensive for what it is. And what it is isn’t all that good. Breakfast served all day, burgers, ice cream, etc. Although the milk shake was pretty good. It’s hard to mess up a milk shake though.

I thought this place was really cute and went a few times when I lived in Worcester. I like the whole poodle dress thing, thought that was cute. Also liked the working jukeboxes, even if you did have to wait half your meal before your song choices came on. The food was quite tasty, I tried a few things including the Caribbean Buffalo Wings which were A+, Spinach & Artichoke Dip, also good, the BBQ Burger, REALLYREALLYGOOD, and the Teriyaki Pineapple Burger which was not so good. I’d probably go back if I was in Worcester again, and I’d probably order the Buffalo Wings as an App, and the BBQ Burger as my meal. YUM.

Located in beautiful Lincoln Square… ya…it’s interesting they decided to put it near the Bally’s. The food is not terrible, but it’s not great. The milkshakes are quite delicious and they are HUGE, so that definitely worth the money. The concept is pretty cute, I would hate to work there, all the old people so probably go for the Senior Special and then leave a dollar tip. I’ve always liked the food here, but I wouldn’t be like, «Oh let’s go to the 5& diner guys! It’ll be a gosh darn great time!» Go to a real diner, there’s only like 8000 in Worcester.

True corporate«authentic» diner from the 1950’s. Its a chain restaurant. Okay diner fare. You pay a little more for the 50’s ambiance. See my Unilocal list for more cool diners all around New England.
