We said we have 7 and the lady said go to the back there’s a table open. We get back there and there is a booth for 4 and a separate booth for 2. We squeezed in and the last kid is now sitting at a table that cleared across the way. We sat at the table for 15 minutes with the people’s food left there, cheese on the placemats, half drank glasses of orange juice etc. finally she comes over and looked mad that the table wasn’t cleared, and cleaned it. Then she gave us 3 placemats and 1 menu for 4 of us at my table. She dropped a pile of silverware on the table for us to sort out for ourselves. Nearly there for 30 minutes, we ordered and we ask for another placemat cause the table is grimy and she says«really?» And rolled her eyes at us but got it for us. Then she brought 2 waters and my friend asked for one more and she goes«is there anything else you want huh». They don’t have enough syrup for each table so we are now passing the syrup from table to table trying to find it when we need it. We are NOT leaving a tip, I have yet to get my food but will write a food review afterwards. Don’t go here, it’s RATCHET

They are the best and most friendly diner I have been. Today I went there to pickup brunch and had just enough cash to pay for my meal excluding a drink. I paid my tab and was about to leave and the older gentleman told me to take any drink, on the house. I came home and told my wife and she told me she had a similar experience just a few months ago. Definitely a community business support, not only because of good food but awesome customer care :)

INFERIORINTOOMANYWAYS 1. FOODQUALITY — 3STARS — Eggs overcooked. Their self-proclaimed World’s Best Corned Beef Hash takes the prize for being the worst I’ve ever had. Good toast, but there’s a $.75(???) up-charge for an English muffin. Prices for egg dishes are low, but do not include home fries or coffee, which makes then only a fair deal with no real bargain. 2. CORNEDBEEFHASH — 1STAR — This is worth repeating: Their self-proclaimed World’s Best Corned Beef Hash is easily the worst I’ve ever tasted. The Corned Beef clearly comes from a can, it has weird seasonings, and is a scant proportion compared with the amount of potatoes. I never dreamed that less Hash would be a good thing! 3. BACONCHEESEOMELETTE — 2STARS — Dry, dry, and more dry. Eggs dry, bacon dry. Thank God there was some cheese in it to moisten it a tad. Otherwise, it would have been a hockey puck. 4. HOMEFRIES — 3STARS — At least the potatoes weren’t under-cooked and raw. They were, however, inundated with Paprika, and shared its overpowering taste. Nowhere was there even a hint of crispiness. The cooks could/should have added some sauteed onions for some wholesome flavor, but they didn’t. Very under-whelming! 5. BLUEBERRYMUFFIN — 3STARS — Average quality, and a bit dry. If it hadn’t been slathered with butter, I wouldn’t have been able to swallow it easily. Hey, that’s what coffee is for, right? 6. AMBIANCE — 3STARS — Not dirty, but not clean. Your typical greasy spoon appearance. 7. WAITSTAFF — 4STARS — Definitely a high point. Our waitress was quite attentive, and very experienced. She really hustles when necessary. Kudos to her. 8. PRICES — 3STARS — At first, a $ 4 to $ 5 price for an omelette seems unusually low. However, Home Fries and coffee are not included, and there’s an up-charge for trading toast for an English Muffin, plus more. Pricing is fair, and there are no real deals offered here. 9. VALUE — 3STARS — Since their eggs and other related breakfast items are priced a la cart, the overall price is not a bargain. When you consider all of the other inferiorities I cited, it actually turns out to be an inferior deal all-considered. 10. SUMMARY — This was my second attempt, and I won’t be returning for any more. And so, my quest to find a decent breakfast place in Worcester continues.

Where do I begin. The service was horrible from beginning to end. At one point I over heard the waitress when she walked into the back state how she hates people! She took 15 minutes to even come to our table once we sat down, we even grabbed our own menus while we waited for her for someone to come over to our table. Then when we finally got our food it was terrible. The corn beef has wasn’t even cooked, my omelette was burnt. On our way out of the restaurant the waitresses were correcting their orders by touching the food with bare hands before bringing them to the customers. Gross! It was a overall bad experience. I will NEVER go back!

As an officianado of the greasy spoon, I went here for lunch with a couple of business associates and had the gyro with fries. Just what I needed. Staff are friendly and service is fast. Food was good– comfort food and breakfast mostly(opened from 6am to 3 pm I believe). Mostly clean. All cash business. Fries are cooked in an interesting batter. Friend had the Reuben and liked it. I had coffee after eating and their coffee is good. Looks like a lot of locals hang out here. Will be back. Not sure what to make out of the«vibe» at this place. I’m more used to greasy spoons in the south. This place just seemed like good people, getting a good cheap meal in a setting that seemed thrown back in time and peaceful. Liked it.

There are few commodities in life that make one fully understand all of the questions of life: Why are we here? Is man good or evil? Is it okay to remove that usb unsafely? Well Gold Star has all the answers you seek and more via waffles and eggs. The answers to life have never been more delicious.

I love this place! I almost always order the corned beef hash that they make homemade! They are really good to kids too, offering half orders. This is a cash only place though so come prepared. Don’t plan to spend too much though because prices are so reasonable.

The food is super cheap and the wait staff is very attentive. One of my favorite places EVER for breakfast and their corned beef hash is to die for. Tastes like stove top and corned beef had a baby. Yummmm nom nom

The restaurant shows its age. Needs an interior major make over. But…Had a great breakfast! Our server was super. Cashier had no parsonality. I said Hello. No response. I paid my bill. No thanks. This guy needs etiquette course.

You can’t beat the Goldstar! This is what Worcester breakfast /lunch is all about! Friendly, casual, inexpensive, the Goldstar has it all! The best waitresses who will bring you your food quickly, exactly as you want it. And there is no such thing as «no substitutions» at the Goldstar… tell them what you want and it is yours. We have been eating here for years and we never tire of this neighborhood gem. Our only complaint… the coffee is a little weak. But that being said… the home fries are wonderful. The omelets… yum! The pancakes… wow! And a tuna melt like in your dreams!

What can I say about Gold Star that hasn’t been said before? Three star food for just about as freekin cheap as you can get. Spectacular. The place is long and narrow, classic diner style with counter on the right and booths on the left. Seat yourself. Writer’s note… Avoid this place weekend mornings. Lines to get in are usually decent from hungover WPI kids. But I’ve been in and out in like 15 minutes on a Monday The usual for me was always the 2 eggs, 2pancakes, 2 toast and coffee for $ 3.95(it was 2.95 for the longest time, like up til last year). Pancakes are average, but eggs(over easy) are usually cooked perfectly. Omelets are more traditional, not overstuffed like at Sisters, but they’re also 4 bucks cheaper. Home Fries are cooked perfectly, though I’m not a huge home fry guy. Table service is usually pretty good, but sometimes they can get overwhelmed. I went in for lunch and got a clam role and fries for 6 bucks. Not sure how that’s even feasible, considering there were a lot of clams. Obviously, they’re just frozen in a big cardboard box… But hey, 6 bucks. Basically, they get am extra star for the prices…

Hands down best diner food around. My grandparents used to bring me here 20 years ago, I have been consistently going for 8 years with my family. Food is great and cheap! Specials always include your drink!

If you want food for a cheap price go there. However with cheap food comes poor taste and quality. Would not reccomend to anyone.

Finally just ate here for the first time after driving by for a decade. Ordered burgers which were pretty good. Also had coffee. Breakfast looked very good, especially the pancakes. Here’s the thing, the service wasn’t great but hey it’s a diner and it was close to closing time and the ladies were tired. Had to ask a few times for coffee and it took a few minutes to get our order placed. But I’d go back anytime. You cannot beat the prices, they legit look 25 years old. $ 15 for lunch for 2!

It was the best cooked breakfast I have had in a long, long time. Poached eggs, toast and corners beef hash. The hash wasn’t exactly as I expected but it was so fantastically good that there is no complaints here. When I arrived it was packed. The waitress said that it wasn’t busy. Egad! CASHONLY! But I cannot complain about that, my whole meal was $ 5.30. Yes that is right! I will return every time I am in the neighborhood.

This restaurant is a best buy in Worcester. Prices are great and they have plenty of parking in the area. The Gold Star is a great place to meet your friends but the place gets packed, so try to get there early.

Ok. This is the benchmark. If you can provide better Hash than this place then you may be able to wear the monicker. I am The Hashman. After 10 years I still can’t find anything that comes close. Their hash is king hands down. Say Hi to Holly for me. The best waitress on this planet.

Good sized portions at a price which can’t be beat. Seriously, a solid breakfast here is $ 5. I normally get the eggs once-over, unlimited coffee, some toast, and am full for the day. Unless you time it right, which I never seem to be able to, you are waiting in line. Maybe it’s because of that, but they try to hurry you out the door when you finish your meal so someone else can sit down, so don’t expect to finish your meal, and spend another hour talking. They won’t say anything, but you can tell there’s 30 people eyeing your seat saying to each other«come on, move it, I’m hungry.» Short story is solid food at a price which can’t be beat, without all the little frills which you don’t care about driving prices up.

I can’t even begin to count the number of times I’ve been to this restaurant, but I was here for breakfast most weekends during my four years at WPI. I returned most recently this past weekend for WPI homecoming. There have been a few changes since the last time I was here about a year ago, but overall it’s basically the same place. For one they have menus now that are more than just laminated pieces of paper, and their prices have gone up a little but they are still BYFAR the cheapest breakfast you will ever find in a diner. To this day I’ve only ever ordered one thing on the menu so I can talk to that. 2 Eggs, 2 Pancakes, 2 Slices of toast, and coffee for $ 3.95. It used to be $ 2.95 about a year ago but even after the increase you’ll never find a cheaper breakfast. I’m not going to lie and say its the best quality breakfast you’ll ever have, but for the price it’s easily the best overall value. From what I’ve seen from my friends ordering other things, the other items on the menu are priced similarly. The service was always hit or miss during my WPI years but during this past visit it was solid. The waitresses there are extremely busy in Saturday and Sunday mornings but they handle the workload well. Overall this has always been my hometown favorite and I will always continue to stop in here every time I visit home.
