It’s a hit or miss with what you get here. I got the carrot cake cupcake which was amazing and my girlfriend got the smores cupcake which was not nearly as good. The service took a while because there was only one girl doing everything from making coffee to selling goods at register. Overall really good and worth a try!

I go to the bean counter whenever I’m home! I love their iced lattes, especially when the manager makes them. My only negative feedback is that some of the new girls will make an iced latte that tastes burnt– but other than that, excellent!

I like this place for working. It has a nice atmosphere and the lattes are pretty! Unfortunately the coffee is absolutely terrible. The ingredients are good, I appreciate the different flavors available, but I think the machine must be rarely cleaned. Definitely better coffee at Dunkin donuts which is a bit ridiculous, since this is a coffee shop and you would think they would care about that sort of thing. Also this is the only place I know that is cash only for orders under 5 dollars. This is 2016! People don’t carry cash around anymore. I have skipped this place so often because if I want to go here, I have to go to an atm first. There are also no fruit or healthy food items available, and the baked items are either wonderful or dry and inedible. I will continue to wish the place weren’t so dirty, the customer service were better, and I didn’t have to order drinks with lots of sugar because the coffee is undrinkable. I love the idea of this place, but honestly, if there were a Starbucks near me, I would go there instead.

This place was so cute! Great, quiet atmosphere, amazing George Howell espresso, a little understaffed, but overall a good find! Would definitely recommend.

Amazing coffee and a great selection! Service is always prompt and neat. The prices are decent and their baked goods are always a nice treat! Highly recommend

First time there and while the food and coffee was great, the place was messy and could use a good floor cleaning. The details matter…

Plenty of tables, nice vibe, good music, excellent coffee. Oh, and cupcakes… fantastic, moist icing delivery mechanisms. Yum.

Great coffee. They make a mean latte and the baked goods are fantastic. Free wifi which is nice. Comfy chairs as well. The only thing that keeps this from getting 5 stars is that there might be 1 or 2 all-day customers posted up with all of their belongings. Edit– gave the 5 stars because I guess vagrants need coffee too and who really cares if they camp out as long as it’s not intrusive, so whatever.

I’ve gotta agree with many of the other reviewers in that the cakes are the best tasting but the customer service is horrible. The employees are a step below ‘derrrrr.’ And the parking situation I do not like. Not having a parking lot is an anxiety-provoking chore. I learned about them from the Italian place Ciao Bella in Worc. They get most of their cakes from here.

I really like The Bean Counter. There’s a lot of things in this area and the parking is pretty terrible. I’ve gotten only a few things here– almond milk latte. When I get it to stay, it’s creamy and delicious. To go, not the same. They have a wide assortment of cookies and cupcakes, with lots of vegan and gluten free options. A bit on the expensive side. Definitely a cozy place to hang out, do some work, read a book, chat with friends.

Bogart could have had a latte in this place. A classic ‘40s style urban coffee shop with chair rail along the walls paralleling five inch molding along the floor. The dark wood stain and avocado painted walls is balanced by a roll of thick white wall paper along fifteen foot high ceilings. At the coffee bar sits a machine from the future. Like Harley and Davidson had left for the old country to build Italian espresso machines, Bean Counter’s Mirage espresso machine is paneled with custom chrome and steel plates with boot grip patterns. You’re espresso, latte, and whatnot are built with a care that is also apparent in the assortment of mouthwatering baked goods such as a coffee cup sizes apple pie that’s stacked tall as a top hat, cinnamon twists, and several delicious looking chocolate this and that’s. You need to come here to check this place out. It gets the highest stamp of approval from this Seattlite and China coffee maven.

Having been to the Shrewsbury location and left quite underwhelmed, I avoided coming here for a long time which turned out to be a mistake since the Highland location is one of the better coffee shops in Worcester. My initial judgement of a coffee shop is it’s cappuccino. Worcester is sadly lacking in places to get a good one. There are a lot places to get a mediocre one and very few that understand that a cappuccino is supposed to taste like coffee, not just foam and cinnamon/nutmeg/sugar or whatever nonsense they’ve decided to sprinkle on top. While Bean Counter’s is not the prettiest cappuccino, it is made with high quality beans(George Howell or 49th Parallel) and actually tastes like you’re drinking a beverage made with coffee. It’s not overly strong so its still accessible to people who don’t necessarily crave a huge coffee flavor. The foam is a little lackluster and is not well integrated with the drink, it just kind of sits on top, completely separate. I guess some people might prefer it this way, but I don’t. Bean Counter has a decent amount of seating, although its so close to WPI I can imagine it’s usually pretty hard to snag a table. I didn’t try the baked goods at this location, but the ones at the Shrewsbury location are good and I think they are all made here anyway.

Everytime I go here I am never disappointed. Today I had an hour break at school and forgot to pack a lunch. I figured it would be nice to go out to lunch and eat at a little coffee shop while I read my book. After 15 minutes of trying to follow my gps, and taking wrong turn after wrong turn, I finally arrived! When you go in you notice right off the back all the delicious cakes and pastries they have. They all looked so wonderful, I wish I wasn’t trying to eat healthy or I would have gotten a mini cake! You then would take your eyes off of the delicious desserts and look at the chalkboards that have all the drinks and specials on them. They have a vast variety of drinks to choose from, iced or hot is an option on most of their drinks. I had an iced chai, which is my favorite iced drink besides water. I was disappointed they did not have any wheat or multigrain anything to put my egg and cheese on, so I got it on an English muffin. It tasted very good and was a nice meal to relax and read my book with. I will definitely be coming back!

Today I woke up craving a cupcake. So while still in bed, I went to my Unilocal app to resolve this issue. This is how I found the Bean Counter Coffee Bar and Bakery. I saw a user uploaded photo of what looked like some sort of apple pie cupcake, and was immediately sold. I ended up arriving at the café around 1 pm and was happily surprised that the place wasn’t completely packed. This allowed me to enjoy a cappuccino while reading a book near the window in peace. The café had a very cozy vibe to it, and offered a serious selection of pastries to choose from. I ended up buying a carrot cake cupcake to go.(Some things you’re safer eating in the privacy of your own home…) Since I neglected to order the cupcake I set out to get, I will clearly have to come back soon.(And I happily will)

Vegan cupcakes and cookies!!! My oatmeal raisin cookie was really good and the cupcake wasn’t too bad. A bit dense but tastes ok

Ok, so here’s my experience. Previously I have had a cake from Bean Counter at work and loved it, so I went online and found a birthday cake for my 6 year old. I called and asked how much it would be for the cake for my daughter’s birthday party. 14 kids, Frozen themed. I was informed I should get the 10 inch round cake, and that the price did not include the little frozen toys at the top of the cake. I would have to purchase them. The quote was $ 122.00. I was in shock. Whooaa! So I said thank you and went down to Cullpeppers bakery where I ordered a Frozen themed ¼ sheet personalized cake with the frozen toys on top included for $ 23.95 total after tax. Though the Bean Counter cakes taste pretty good, their price for a child’s birthday party cake just takes the cake!!!

The atmosphere at the Bean Counter is usually pretty good, but can get loud and overwhelming when it’s busy. The newly(within the past few years) expanded seating area to the right as you walk in the door is usually pretty quiet, but the other seating area on the other side gets really loud when there are a lot of people and is not conducive to getting work done. It can also be difficult to find a seat if you come in at a busy time. The cakes and pastries are delicious, though most are very pricey. The same goes for the beverages(both caffinated and not). Most recently, I ordered a large iced latte and a bagel sandwich and the total came to $ 9 and change. The regular coffees are pretty pricey as well, and for a place that caters for customers who want to get work done, it’s a huge bummer that there’s no discount on coffee refills. I’ve never ordered a cake in advance, so I can’t speak to that, but when I’ve walked in for cakes there has always been a great selection and employees have been more than happy to write on it for me.

I love the bean counter for a relaxing night or early afternoon break! Their lattes are delicious and cute. Their fruit brûlée is my favorite dessert. Only bad thing about the place is the parking. It’s always hard to find parking during busy hours since there is only side street parking. Cute little area to relax and catch up with friends over a cup of coffee.

This is our go-to coffee shop when we are visiting Worcester, MA. Our favorite part, besides the latte art, are the amazing vegan whoopie pies. They have a great environment for visiting with friends, or bring your laptop. It is a little loud so I probably would not get much reading done there. I wish there were more vegan options there, but I take what I can get, and they do a wonderful job with the things that they do have.

This is the coolest little bakery in Worcester, hands down. The breakfast options are all delicious from the breakfast sandwiches to the muffins. This place has two shining stars– the coffee and the desserts. You can get literally any coffee made expertly and served in an awesome teal mug or to go. If you want a «kick in the pants» with an extra shot of espresso, go for it! It may leave your hands shaking, but it’s great for finals week. Admittedly, I’m not a vegan and one of my favorite desserts is the vegan whoopie pie. It’s basically 2 oatmeal cookies with frosting in the middle. It’s so good and large that i never finish it in 1 sitting. For $ 3 you cant beat it! The fruit tart is perhaps the prettiest option in the pastry case. It is so colorful and it is as good as it looks! Also– kudos to the owners. They display local art from different artists each month and they are up for sale. Gotta love being able to chill in a leather armchair and do homework while sipping a tea, listening to mainstream alternative, and people watching while stuffing your face in cupcakes.
