The food was delicious. Service, on the other hand was really slow(place was not busy at all), only 4 cards can be used per table which makes it very inconvenient considering we were 5. Also, they very rudely tell you that u cannot share. The 18% gratuity is charged on a small party only when hot pot is purchased, only 3 of my friends had it. Pay close attention to your bill we were charged for an extra drink. Be ware, the all you can eat meal is A LOT of food, way more than u can eat and you CANNOT take the leftovers home. My friend asked for fish balls and the waitress said she would bring it and 15 min later, we had to remind her again. Not worth it. Hope this helps!

Chuan Shabu provides a wonderful hot pot experience! The staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. The food is consistently amazing, and the drinks are great(house sangria and Mai Tais are $ 5!) Great atmosphere and music, clean environment. My partner and I have gone here several times in the past year, and they remember us-which is nice. They even remember that my partner is vegetarian, so they make sure that mala is good to go for him(they have a beef based and a veg based spicy mala broth)! They are attentive here!

Went last night for Valentine’s day and got the all you can eat special for $ 23. Having been to a couple Shabu places in Boston, this is the best deal I’ve come across! I really liked being able to pick and choose which meats and veggies to cook up. The only downside… We definitely checked off TOO many things on the list, as we were excited to try everything. Oops! Next time we’ll pace ourselves. Great food, great service… Will definitely go back again!

UPDATE!!! Was told by their manager they have no special then what does the sign at THEFRONTDOOR say? Most deceitful and underhanded restaurant EVER. We came in and said table for two for hot pot special. We’re seated given menu and when waiter came back we asked how many we were allowed to get? And which ones. We were told we could order whichever we wanted. So we ordered accordingly. After all said and done we had a bill of $ 228!!! I will be calling to speak with a manager and if issue doesn’t come to a compromise I will be filling a dispute with better business bureau and protesting the charges with my bank.

We ordered takeout. We ordered at 7:30 pm. The food came about an hour late than the promised time. We always order from Red pepper and the food is delivered in time and hot. Incase they think they would be late they always tell us that and in that case we never place the order. While placing the order here I asked multiple times if it would be after 9 we wont place the order then. The person kept saying no it would be on time and it was almost an hour late than the advertised time. The food was cold and soggy by the time it arrived. We could barely eat it. The chicken was horrible. The pork belly had bad smell. The fried rice was tasteless and cold. The food realy tastes gross. We went with great reviews and wanted to try a new place the money went for waste. They not only charge delivery but also take tip and are dishonest about time. I know it was snowing but all they should have done is tell us that they would be 2 hour late, like how Red pepper does and not lie to us. Never get takeout from here! I wish I can give negative stars. Was such a horrible experience and expensive waste of money. Even cheap chinese takeout food tastes better than this one. Trust me.

I went twice for the hotpot dinner with my son. He has been there several times with friends. Vegetables were plentiful, fresh, and well suited for the two broths we chose. There was a good amount of fresh protein. We could have used more of our chosen noodles. The hot pot experience at the table is fun and not rushed. We went away full. Our server was knowledgeable, pleasant, and attentive. The management was professional and friendly. The décor is pleasant, the place is modern yet warm. The restroom was clean. This is a restaurant I look forward to going back to again and again.

Food is good but the review is based on shady financial practices. We had a group of six and knew we’d pay the requisite 18%. One weird thing was that they wrote in the top for us. A little bit presumptuous especially considering it was on a $ 200 tab. The worst part though was that they charged us for two desserts we didn’t order. We called over the manager who called over the waitress and they took it off our bill. No apologies, nothing. The service was also terrible. We asked for more broth and the waitress said she’d refill it with water(?!). PS she never brought anything. Long story short, DOUBLECHECKYOURBILL and add everything up yourself

Little expensive but great food and service was good. The place looked nice and clean inside. The interior was decorated nicely and bathrooms were clean. There is a big pot they bring out and put on table and heat up. The pot had a divider so was good for my broth and my boyfriends broth. I got herbal broth, he got a spicy broth. the menu has chilli peppers sign next to the broth so u know how spicy it is. I knew to get no spice broth since I don’t like that. We put an order for two people, which was assortment of foods which had seafood and the meats. The amount of seafood wasn’t much but added together was an ok amount. The meats came rolled and thinly sliced. The vegetables were a good variety. Noodles they gave were not that much, could have been more. Overall, we were full and was satisfied with our hot pot experience.

The food was great, but I’ll never come back here. I went with four of my friends tonight and the service was horrible. Our waitress’s name was Thu. When I received our check, I calculated who had what food and how much each person owed. What I didn’t like was how 18% gratuity was already added on. I understand that in big groups most restaurants add it on, but Shabu only adds on gratuity for groups 6 or larger. The total number of people(including myself) in my group was 5. I’m assuming because my friends and I were teens(17 year olds), the waitress didn’t think we would give her a tip. When I calculated the amount each person owed INCLUDING the tip, Thu our waitress insisted that I did the math out wrong, so I did it again. Everything added up. At this point, everyone I was with was already annoyed at our waitress, so we just paid whatever she wanted us to. Even this wasn’t enough for her – she said she added on gratuity because we were a large group, but we all paid on separate cards. I was generous enough to write out for her how much each card(and specified which card) should be charged. This irritated her, as she said«Usually you can only use two cards but I guess I’ll do it.» As we left the restaurant, the manager called us over. Instead of apologizing for the horrible treatment, he just asked to make sure we had our receipts signed, which were. Not coming back again and I would not recommend. 1 star.

Great Hot Pot and service. We went for Sunday lunch and the restaurant was somewhat full. We also tried some of the Chinese food. Which was very fresh and average. I would definitely come back and recommend here for the Hot Pot.

I LOVE this place! The food is so refreshing and delicious. The tom yum broth is awesome and I like the all you can eat specials. Meals can be relatively pricey, but the all you can eat doesn’t feel as expensive and you can try stuff that you may not typically order off the standard menu. Definitely my née favorite restaurant in the area.

A huge fan of hot pot buffets. They give you a 2 hour limit on the all you can eat. They have a pretty good selection of choices of meats, veggies, seafood, carbs. If you want the really good meat cuts, those are extra. But you are cooking it in broth, so you can deal with the regular beef, lamb, chicken choices offered with the all you can eat. They also offer $ 5 drink specials. Hello mai tais with your meal. Décor is really nice and seats are comfortable. The only thing is I wish service was more attentive. There would be huge lulls when we wanted to reorder more food. We would be sitting there waiting with no food at all. The upside, your food does come out quick once you reorder. Overall, a good spot to shabu.

I came back for hot pot buffet, 3 goods eating for 1.5 hours couldn’t get full because they delay on the foods, it took forever for a next plate to come, we just sitting there staring at the empty pot with just broth, we finished everything else just sitting here playing the waiting game. Food was great

Finally some hot pot in Worcester! For the price, I thought that food portions were small, so be sure to order plenty of noodles. You can get a better deal in Boston, but it’s a drive…

This is my FAVORITE place to go for hot pot. Why? Because 1. I don’t need to drive an hour 2. It’s CLEAN3. They don’t skimp on the sauces and 4. I get exactly what I want when I want it. A la carte baby. Cons: scarce parking, and like you’re always wondering if you’re going to get side swiped, also, it’s expensive. For two people I usually pay 60+ and that’s the vegetarian options. You get what you pay for though and I can’t get enough. They’re the same people who own baba next door which is nice. ‚)

Food was great but portions are small and pricey. I’ve been to hot pot places in RI and Boston and was given twice as much for the same price! Hubby and I left the place hungry.

Chaun is an excellent hot pot restaurant located next to its sister restaurant, award-winning sushi joint Baba Sushi. They also serve Chinese-American and Szechuan appetizers and entrees and have a creative bar, but the hot pot is at the center of the Chuan experience. If you’re unfamiliar with hot pot, the concept is a communal stew whereby participants dip shaved meats, small pieces of seafood, rice, noodles, and/or vegetables into a bubbling broth and serve themselves as they go. The broth picks up more and more flavor, and the proteins and veggies can be dipped in a combination of sauce that you enjoy before biting. Chuan features various broth options that span various Asian cuisines and levels of spice, and the dipping sauce platter features garlic, chiles, green onions, and a fish-sauce-based sauce which you can combine in any fashion you choose. My recommendation for first-timers is to order a combination platter, which comes with one veggie sampler, one starch, and one protein(or a larger sampling of veggies). The price can easily add up, but you may find yourself satisfied with the cheaper protein options and the very worthwhile experience. Hot pot is transcendent in the depths of winter, because nothing says comfort like a room full of boiling pots of broth. I’ve tried several of the broth flavors, and enjoyed them all, but one nice option is that the table-center warmers also have split pots for those who wish to try two different broth flavors at once. I tend to like a good amount of heat and my partner prefers mild dishes. The one-chile Tom Yum broth was enough to make me sweat a little, but not too much to scare her off, so the Mala and Super Mala(two and three chile, respectively) must offer a nice option for heat heads. My only real complaint about Chuan is the fact that the clean, modern interior is also packed full of booming audio. It’s not as noisy as a club or concert venue, but it’s far noisier than most restaurants I enjoy, especially when busy. Being hard of hearing, that’s a big reason for me to avoid the place when it might be busy, and I can’t imagine I’d appreciate that even if I wasn’t.

I’m from LA where we have tons of amazing shabu shabu & hot pot places to choose from. From what I hear there isn’t a big selection in Worcester(I do apologize if I’m wrong). So I didn’t come here with high expectations. It was a rainy day and hot pot just sounded right. The food was okay. Not bad but I’ve had better. Meat could have been more tender. Portions are kinda small. The broth(half basic & half tomyum) was fine for cooking the food but not drinking alone. Normally I love ending my meals by drinking a bowl of the broth. Had two sips of the tomyum and couldn’t drink anymore. Maybe it was just that broth? I did like the fish tofu. That was good and interesting. Never had that before. The décor was cute though! Very modern and hip. Fun atmosphere with a full bar inside the restaurant. Service was great. Waiters were very friendly and consistently checked up on us. Overall good experience. May come back again if I’m in the area and craving hotpot.
