We had afternoon tea at Cargoes this afternoon. Dainty & tasty sandwiches, cream scone teas and scrumptious traybakes, accompanied by Earls Grey with other nice sounding teas on offer. All served on Royal Albert vintage china. Very pleasant service and ambience. There is also a supper club on Friday eveningswill be looking into this. A very nice experience all round.

The comfort here is in the eating and definitely not the seating, otherwise I would have given Cargoes a higher rating. Full of Malone ladies who lunch Cargoes may seat you on patio furniture but the menu more than makes up for this slight discomfort. Today’s soups, pea and ham and a Vietnamese-style chicken soup bursting with chillis and fresh herbs, acoompanied by breads were filling enough to help us avoid the temptation of the dessert specials on the board. Cargoes deserves its obvious popularity. If you don’t have time to sit-in then you can grab-and-go, as well as stock up on a range of deli-goods.
