What better way to spend Saturday brunch with good friends, brunch of sausage and bacon sarnies and coffee, with live music provided by Motown Sensations from LA singing some amazing soul music, in an amazing venue… highly recommended.

If you can manage to get a balcony table overlooking the market whilst live music is in full swing then George’s Of The Market is one of the best place in Belfast for breakfast or lunch. I visited yesterday(Saturday 14.05.2016) with my sister and we had an extremely enjoyable leisurely lunch sitting on said balcony, watching bustling St George’s Market, soaking up atmosphere and listening to wonderful live music. Service was good and there were a few Vegetarian options on the menu. It’s a pity these Vegetarian dishes aren’t more clearly marked with a(V) plus a few more Vegetarian dishes would be great, but at least they are there. Caroline S ordered a Veggie Breakfast(£6.75) which was the most impressive looking Vegetarian Fry I’ve ever seen, plus she assured me it tasted fantastic. I opted for a pasta dish with butternut squash, walnuts, onion and rosemary(£6.95). Delicious food in generous portions at reasonable prices. We managed to work our way through glasses of Pinot Grigio, Rose and Prosecco. St George’s Market Bar and Grill also do the most amazing pure apple juice and Prosecco cocktail which we thought the best Prosecco based cocktail we have ever tried. Most of the restaurant ingredients are fresh and local, coming from the market itself. We arrived at just before 1pm and stayed until after 3pm as we had such a wonderful time there. Even inside this restaurant is beautiful due to natural light coming through a skylight rooftop, however the best tables are definitely on the balcony. I’m already plotting my return…

Stopped in after visiting Titanic exhibit, maybe 10 minutes away. Fantastic decision, great food, great service.

I’ve been in St Georges a few times for breakfast and I’ve always thought it really good. On my last visit a few weeks ago with a large party of more than 20 people the service and food was amazing. I was impressed that they catered so well for such a large crowd. No matter what you order whether a full fry up or just scrambled egg on toast the standard is superb, plus they use local ingredients.

Last week I was invited down to try out the restaurant, George’s of the Market(previously known as the St George’s Market Bar and Grill.) The restaurant has overlooked the Market for the past 15 years but recently underwent a rebrand. It’s renowned for using ingredients straight from the market floor so I was looking forward to tasting the local, fresh dishes. The restaurant is very large with an open-plan kitchen so you can see the chefs cook in front of you. The setting is really lovely– particularly the spectacular feature windows. We were given two menus– the pre-theatre and the á la carte menu. As it was 7pm, we could have eaten of the pre-theatre which runs until 7.30, but other dishes on the main menu caught our eye. The pre-theatre is two courses for £14.00 and 3 courses for £16.50 For starters I picked the Vegetarian Bruschetta(£4.75) because it was the cheese which grabbed my attention. The dish is a large piece of Cooleeney Cheese(a creamy/buttery cheese with a white mould rind, made in Tipperary) with roasted red pepper and spinach served on grilled bread. I really enjoyed the dish as I’m a big fan of soft Brie and Cambembert-like cheeses anyway. Barry went for the Arglass Mussels(£6.50), which came with Chorizo, white wine and herbs and served with a side of wheaten. I’m not a fan of seafood so didn’t try the mussels but I did try the sauce they were served in which was tasty. For mains, I was torn between the 6oz Irish Beef Burger(£12.95) and the Gnocchi(£12.95). In the end I went for the Gnocchi(another vegetarian dish) as Barry choose the Burger so I knew I could have a bite of his to taste! The Gnocchi came with pumpkin, peas, sage and parmesan cheese. There was no sauce accompaniment, just drizzled with olive oil I think, so I would have liked a little bit more flavour. Again, Barry enjoyed his burger to which he added bacon(extra £1) and blue cheese(extra £1). Finally for dessert I had my heart set on the Raspberry Ruffle cheesecake but sadly, they had run out! It must have been good! Barry was really full so could only manage some ice-cream while I picked the Petit Four. This was a mixture of fugde, chocolate truffles, berries and jellies. For me the highlight was the rich chocolate truffles covered in white chocolate– wow! Once I’d finished the first, I was delighted to tuck into the second! I would have preferred something other than a second piece of fudge but that’s only because I’m not a huge fan of fudge in general. All in all, it was a nice meal and the setting really made it. I’ve heard the Ulster Fry is its signature dish so I reckon I’ll have to get down to try it! Thanks to St George’s of the Market for inviting me!

Went for breakfast a few weeks ago, set outside on the balcony, it was lovely looking over the busy market. Breakfast was amazing, restaurant was beautiful and nice and clean. The service was excellent.

Great place to have a meal, especially if taking a break from the St George’s market and all the goings on. They serve breakfast, lunch and evening meals and the food is stunning. My favourite dish and the one they are well known for is the ‘award winning’ fry up, I would highly recommend it, especially when the market is open and if there is a table free outside on the balcony. The balcony takes you away from the sometimes crazy atmosphere of the market but you get a view of all your favourite traders and still live the experience while dinning.

This restaurant has a balcony with a great view over the bustling market beneath, it’s ideal for a lunch or coffee. Inside, it’s elegantly decorated and would be good for dinner as well as daytime. The staff were very nice and my dad was so impressed with the coffee he ordered a second cup. The pancakes with bacon and maple syrup were good, the very tasty bacon I believed is sourced from the butcher’s stalls below. They also have an excellent sounding fry up for £8. Definitely worth a visit if at the market.

I was walking past this market on Saturday with no intentions of visiting it. However the smells and sounds intrigued me and I ended up having a wee look at what was on offer. I wasn’t disappointed there was various local craft shops offering the sort of gifts that would win you some serious brownie points for your mums birthday. The food on offer was unbelievable, this must be where all those wee stalls from the Christmas market hide out on the off season. You can get foods from all over the world most of which looked really nice. I would recommend this place for a visit the next Saturday you are shopping in Belfast, you could grab a quick lunch on the go — good luck deciding what to go for.

We had a lovely lunch here recently. I went for the Irish stew, and while it wasn’t stewed up like traditional stew(it was more liked braised lamb, mash and vegetables), it was absolutely delicious. Really tasty and very filling. The menu had a good choice of both breakfast and lunch dishes, and I know there’s an evening menu as well. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I will definitely return.

This is the perfect place to go for a coffee and a bite to eat if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the Market but still enjoy the unique atmosphere. Having been out the night before my visit to the market I was looking for an escape and St Georges Market Bar and Grill proved to be my solace. A huge bowl of coffee, some eggs benedict and a glass of iced water sorted me out. I think the serving staff knew I was feeling a little bit delicate and their excellent customer service also helped coax my hangover out of my body and in to the bin. The food itself was top class — they boast that ‘they only use the finest local produce’ and I can vouch for the ‘finest’ part as my meal was nothing short of exceptional. Not only was it exceptional but it was also reasonably priced — 1 eggs benedict, 1 chowder and 2 large coffees(with free refills) for £16!

I never knew this place actually existed above the Market! I called into the market yesterday and seen a sign outside that they were now taking Christmas bookings! I wondered did they put on some kind of huge banquet in the market at Christmas that I was oblivious to? But then discovered that on the top floor there is a great restaurant overlooking the Marketplace! It’s quite upmarket and really modern and contemporary and the specials are usually select fish fresh from downstairs! The menu is really great and having seen a fish and chips going past me on the way in I had made my mind up before I even sat down. It was every bit as good as it looked! The batter is the kind that just melts in your mouth and takes nothing away from the lively Haddock it encases. I must say also that their tartar sauce is fab! They offer a separate lunch and Al-a-carte menu and both are visible in the book so you can see everything they have to offer! I also have to point out that the hostess who was in charge was really great! She was so organised and had the rest of the staff on top of everything! She was two steps ahead of everyone else which I really respect! Like a drill sergeant but not as scary! So I have to say a big well done to the staff. Superb! Price wise you could spend between £7-£12 on a main depending on what you order. Greta value for fantastic food and service!
