I’m so glad they’re only round the corner from me! The quality of meat is good. My purchase of sausages went down a treat. The staff were friendly as well. I apologised for being indecisive so I ended up buying 2 of each kind. I love the fact that Kemptown has its own butchers and this one has been awarded for top quality.

Bramptons does the best quality meat at the best prices I know. The meat is fresh & the staff are helpful and can give good cooking tips. The only reason it’s not a 5 is that it’s not open Sundays. I know they have to rest but I want to be able to get my roasting joint on a Sunday morning!

It was my birthday recently, and my parents were kind enough to give me a birthday present of $ 100 Canadian dollars! Now, that’s serious«wonga»!(Did I use that term correctly?) I decided to use my money wisely. I saved some of it, spent some on coffee, and spent the rest on buying sausages and bacon at Bramptons. It’s not cheap here, but what you get here are quality meats and cheeses. As I am someone who believes that the most expensive is the best, I decided to spend the money I had on the most expensive sausage and bacon they had available. And although it was costly, it was worth it. I’ve never had such high quality bacon and sausage in my life. I work in a hotel that serves bacon and sausage, and the ones there pale in comparison to the ones I received from Bramptons. Just tremendous.

This is a fanstastic butchers that transforms the art of chopping meat into an art form. Supermarket cuts can only take you so far and particularly within this area it is difficult to find either very particular cuts or particularly large cuts for a really epic roast. The cheese shop next door is the most impressive way to wow guests. If you just dried your beef to billtong and one of your guests is crying because they broke a tooth on a burnt yorshire pudding, just bring out a fab cheese board from here and it will help to patch things up.

I’m a fan of local shops at the best of times, and Bramptons is an impressive addition to the local shop scene in Kemptown. It seems strange, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen a butchers outside of a big supermarket, and it’s great to see somewhere like Brampton’s thriving with our modern, buy-it-all-from-one-shop mentality. I hope Brampton’s survives: it is the perfect place to buy specific cuts of meat, although I will admit that isn’t as useful as you’d think. Brampton’s is, in many ways, a pretty typical butchers. Nearly every cut of meat I could think of is available, although I’d be the first to admit that there are kinds I’ve never heard of on display in Brampton’s already, so the chance of there being even more is pretty high. It was also nice to see various offal bits and pieces: not the biggest fan, but it is hard to find in some of the big supermarkets. The staff are quick to make points like this: they’re clearly proud of what they do independently. However, this isn’t all as perfect as it sounds. The prices are higher than your average supermarket, making buying the meat fresh a bit of a vanity purchase. As well as that, this meat isn’t really preserved: the stuff you get in supermarkets lasts longer in the fridge. Now I know, preservatives are seen to be awful things, but I dispute that: I simply don’t have time to the butchers every day, and that’s the kind of service these guys are offering: not everyone can go in for that. So, it’s nice to see some old-fashioned shops on the streets of Brighton, but maybe this butchers is at the very end of its usefulness. I do wish them the best of success, and recommend going there for something special, but Brampton’s won’t be able to live off that kind of visit, not without raising its prices. I wish them the best of success, but I don’t know how long Brampton’s will be around.

A well established and renowned local butchers celebrating traditional methods and good quality meats. Ask anyone in Brighton(well, everyone I’ve asked, anyway) to recommend a butcher and they’ll most likely name this one. It’s been running over 100 years and is a local institution, has won awards for its hand-linked sausages and prides itself on local produce. Deciding to do something different for our Christmas dinner, me and my fella were keen to try pheasant. Pulling on my winter coat I dutifully departed in full hunter-gatherer mode(skiing most of the way as it had been snowing forever), on the look-out for a local butchers. This is where the everyone-I’ve-asked-recommends-Bramptons bit comes in, as the meat-man in Morrisons, hairy bloke on the table next to me in Redroaster, couple outside the Tin Drum, and little old lady slipping around the icy pavement on St James Street all directed me to Bramptons. I got our pheasant, and was treated to a step by step guide on how to prepare and cook it by one of the friendly staff. We’ve never looked back since and although nothing is as cheap as the supermarket meats, it’s better quality, locally sourced and prepared in front of you with a smile.

Bramptons is a fantastic traditional butchers and cheese shop in Kemptown. The full array of meat products is available here — beef, lamb, pork — in various cuts, including their own sausages. It’s a real pleasure to watch the butchers here at work — they clearly have a great pride and skill in their work. So different to picking up some pre-packaged factory farmed stuff from the supermarket shelf. The prices aren’t cheap, but you know you are getting well sourced, humanely reared produce. The cheese shop also has a good range, including lots of local cheeses you won’t find anywhere else.

This is the place to buy your meat if you want to impress your dinner guests. On my first encounter with Bramptons I needed to procure some mince meat to cook meatballs. When the mince was handed over, the butcher warned me, ‘make sure you eat that in the next day or so or it’ll go off — it aint got any preservatives in it’. We ate the meatballs that night and were pretty impressed. Following my initial success, I splashed out on some lamb chops. These, I was told, were reared on the Sussex Downs which can only add to the enjoyment of the food knowing the meat hasn’t been festering in a lorry freezer for 24 hours. If your on a tight budget to feed a large household then you may find it difficult to buy here but if you have the money and love your local produce, I don’t think you’ll find a better butchers in the area.

A proper Butchers and adjacent Deli. It’s a rare treat to be able to select cuts of your choice and have it boned or more or less fat etc. The meat is properly hung and looks and tastes great. The Deli is also excellent with some perfect cheeses
