Caffe Nero

As far as Caffe Nero’s go, this is a fantastic one! The service is always amazing in here and they’re never in a rush to clear you out of there — no matter how many coffees you drink slowly while making the most of their awesome free wifi.
A few weeks ago my home internet went down and, in a desperate search for free and reliable wifi, I stumbled in here with an optimistic smile on my face. I wasn’t disappointed! The wifi signal is amazing! I’ve never had any troubles with it at all, which is a rare find.
Yes, this is a chain, but it actually does things very well. The food is tasty and the coffee is delicious (to my standards). The space itself is also really great and it never gets seriously busy like other cafes in the centre of town.
I’ve been back here many times since and have left as satisfied as the first time. If you’re a student or a home worker looking for a great place to sit and work, undisturbed with great wifi and nice coffee, this is the spot for you!

The only chain coffee shop I will go to. You wont find fantastic, small batch, artisanal coffee — but you don’t go here expecting to. The range of drinks on offer is great, and I particularly like the caffe con panna and all the chilled coffee drinks.
Always a chill atmosphere and friendly staff, who are happy for you to stay for countless hours using the wifi while nursing a single drink (which is great for a poor student like me!)

Ever the supplier of proper hardcore creamy goodness in their white chocolate mochas, I always prefer Nero to Starbucks or Costa any day of the week. The prices aren’t as painful, the coffee isn’t bitter and they know how to make a proper cappuccino.
This branch is small, but cosy, and slap bang in the middle of the lanes, so an ideal place to stop for a drink.
As well as tasty coffee variations they also do food (paninis, Italian sandwiches, soups etc) and cold drinks, which range from the bog standard orange juice or smoothie to fruit boosters and thick and creamy frappé milkshakes, (the chocolate frappé milkshake is my one and only true love).
If you’re gonna do a mainstream (ish) coffee house, this is the one.

I’ve been trying to save money and have been using Maxwell Gold Instant Coffee as my caffeine fix. The feeling I get from drinking it isn’t the same feeling I get from having an Americano at a coffee chain. When I was walking along the North Laines, I reached into my pocket to change a song on my iPod. That’s when I found £2.00 in my pants pocket. I rejoiced. Then I saw that I was in front of Caffe Nero. I decided to go in to get a coffee.
The Americano I had was nice and strong, butt pricey. My £2.00 was gone as quickly as I had found it. It’s a comfortable setting with ample seating, so it’s a good place to just sit down and enjoy a good tasting and overpriced cup of coffee.

This is my favorite of coffee shops in the centre of Brighton. Being tucked away in Bond St, which is just off the main thoroughfare, there is a much more relaxed atmosphere at this shop than at many others near by. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful especially to those of us who have disabilities.
There are the usual Nero delights, although I just wish they had more which were suitable for us veggies.

This Nero is okay as they go — with friendly staff and cosy seating. As always the prices are high, and you’d be mad to go here for a sandwhich when there’re much cheaper/​nicer options just a short walk further into the North Laine. The place makes a handy pitstop at the opening of the North Laine area (which proceeds to get less dominated by chains as you head north), and I prefer it to neighbouring Costa, it’s just a shame this spot isn’t occupied by a local café instead.

Let’s be honest, Caffe Nero is a chain for people that like the idea of coffee but haven’t tasted a good cup yet.
I’ve sampled various Americanos, Espresso and Lattes over the years and can honestly say they’ve all tasted bitter and burnt. The people that grind the beans and man the coffee machine seem more interested in the art of coffee making than the folks at Costa Coffee but I’ve still never had a cup I’ve enjoyed. Maybe it’s my personal taste but I’ve yet to meet anyone else that rates their coffee either!
With regular lattes and americanas priced around £1.80 upwards, I’d rather make myself a good cup of Union Coffee or Monmouth at home than be disappointed again.

I try and avoid frequenting chain coffee shops in favour of independents, but my partner’s parents like Nero’s and so I go every few weeks and sit with them. I have to admit, the coffee is good and strong. My boyfriend’s parents like the hot chocolate, which on occasion I also order but ask them to cut back a little on the cocoa powder because otherwise it’s too sweet for me. This Nero’s on Bond Street can be a little echoey but it’s always bright because of the sky light.
