This place oozes charisma, oh and the beers good too ! These boys know what they’re doing … Are t they due to open a new one, or have they and I’ve missed it! Great little place, I hope they never extend it

pokey, overcrowded, rip off prices, and surely dogs shouldn’t be hanging around food preparation areas? this place is trying embarrassingly hard to be trendy. the décor is overkill and the conversation tedious. i’m sure that in pretentious wine bar circles the dirty floor and rickety furniture are seen to give the place ‘character’ but i would rather spend my money somewhere clean and spacious. you can get some real quality beers at the Hulats down the road for half the price, plus much more relaxed atmosphere.

The tiny cousin of North Bar up in Chapel A is a breath of freshly stylish air amongst what I consider to be the mostly awful bars in the suburb. Much like everyone knows you’d be crazy to expect to get a seat in the tiniest of bars I’ve ever been in, but what it lacks in square feet it more than makes up for in ambiance, beer selection and absolutely fantastic bar staff. Better than North Bar If you ask me, not half as many pretentious dick heads per square foot.

I DO like this place. A small quirky bar on the furthest outskirts of the Chap A bars. Great array of beers, ales and cider on tap and some lovely wines(that the friend I was with did a mini wine tasting on!!) Plus massive bonus… It allows dogs in.(Although at a weekend you’d find it hard to shoehorn your dog in!)

Best drinking hole in Chapel Allerton by some distance, choice of only 2 cask ales can cause panic to set in if they’re doing the pipes… but other than that its grand

I love this bar, and it’s bars like this that make me want to move to Chapel Allerton so I can visit it every day. A sister bar of North Bar, in which you may all know a bar that I also love. If I could give Further North a 6* I would, as I am just even more slightly more fond of this place, with their smaller, yet carefully selected range of beers. I have been a few times, but my boyfriend(another North Bar fan) had never been before, so of course I had to take him! Only a short bus ride out of Leeds, and we were there. It was a cold and rainy Thursday evening, and we arrived about 5.30. There was one other couple there. This place is small and cosy, and Nik G get’s it spot on with«A perfect example of how big is not always better». There is a huge amount of attention to detail that has been put into fitting this bar, from the wonderful small tables with perfectly mismatched chairs, to the inviting bar with the great lighting above, the lighting around the windows, and the pewter tankards hooked to the ceiling. Some of these had names attached, and I would love to know why, but I forgot to ask. The pièce de résistance however, was the gentleman behind the bar. His knowledge was excellent and he picked me a perfect beer that I hadn’t tried before. I told him that I had just had an apple and cinnamon brandy cocktail and The Hummingbird Kitchen, but I was now ready for a beer. He offered two and I chose the Lindemans Apple beer. Now I am not normally a fruit beer kind of person, but he convinced me. And I am glad he did! It was really delicious. My boyfriend and I stayed a couple of hours before leaving to go for dinner. Time soon passed and the atmosphere is just lovely and we had a wonderful time here. The bar got busier whilst we were there, but with a great clientele. One couple brought their golden retriever, and this just added to the the cosy and homely vibe of this bar. It’s definitely worth a trip out of town to visit this gem, and Chapel Allerton is not short of bars if you want to move on, or better, finish at Further North.

I’m a fan in general of the North bar contingent, so have now finally had the chance to check out the last on the list(for me at least) of their many guises. Same as Alfred, they’ve some excellent lighting in the form of varied lampshades, only with this bar there’s an intriguing slow disco effect(as pointed out by my drinking partner) insofar as every minute or so the lights go up and down in intensity. The range of brews are standard North bar — quality drinks when it comes to beer — although not the range as in town. Spirits are limited, and no cocktails. But you don’t come here for that. Cosy, cool, and relaxed. One of the better places to sup, of an eve, in Chapel A.

Yummy beers ahoy! As a big fan of real ale and top class drinkables, I was delighted to discover Further North. I already knew I liked it’s big brother North Bar in town, so when I found myself with my buddy in Chapel Allerton fancying a drink, we made a beeline for it. Fabulously quirky surroundings and top notch booze on offer, it’s a lovely comfy place to enjoy a quality drink. Prices are pretty much standard for good real ale. The only criticism I have of the place is that it’s a bit small and cramped when it’s busy. I’ve been in midweek before and it wasn’t too bad, although we did sit at the one and only free table. However after then telling Mr MacDoo how wonderful it is, we went there on Friday to round off a rare date night and it was packed to the rafters! We managed to get a drink but it was standing room only, and there’s not a lot of that, so we felt quite in the way, with people squeezing past all the time. Were it not for that, we’d have definitely stayed for another drink, but busy as it was, we resolved to come back another time when it would be a bit quieter. So if you’re in Chapel A and fancy a quality pint in off-peak hours then definitely get yourself down there. Otherwise, make sure you get there early, bagsy yourself a table and settle in for the evening!

£4 for a pint is ridiculous. I asked for two pints of lager. £8. Not going again.

People of Leeds. do you often find yourself thinking ‘i really want to go to the pub but i dont want to leave my front room’. well now your prayers are answered. apart from having to share a front room with 50 other people! they say good things come in small packages and this is no exception. one downside, the size. if its quiet, its great. if its busy then its still good you just get to experience how a sardine feels! they have a great selection of ales, beers and wines and some bar food too. all of which make this a diamond of a little place to go to. i do find that i have to class it in the stratergy pub section. in other words i have to plan what time i will be going to ensure there will be enough space to get in!

We live opposite this bar. Actually, properly, literally, opposite. Which is why I expect we shall be in here a lot. Also, it sells cherry beer, which is lush. And it’s cosy, and friendly and one of those places with mismatched furniture and cool people. There are about a squillion lampshades hanging from the ceiling too, just in case you don’t think it’s cool or unique enough. You. Will. Love. It. Although your wallet might not. Update I’ve now started an official quest to get through all the beers on the menu :)

Further North is a sister bar to Noorth Bar in town, named so because it is just that, slightly further north, in Chapel Allerton. It is absolutely tiny, about a quarter of the size of its sister in town, with one toilet that serves all. It is a small room, with pictures intentionally oddly arranged on the walls. Due to its size, it gets very hot in there. If there is no table for you to sit, and the bar stools are taken, I would come back later, firstly due to the fact there is not much room to stands, but secondly because there is no doubt that the sitter downers with somehow blame you for the sheen of sweat destroying the atmosphere. Don;t get me worng, I really like Further North, despite the fact it is a tad pokey. I imagine it is a lot better in the summer, when the front windows can be openned out on to the street, giving it some ventillation. Like North Bar, it focusses on its selection of beer, serving a variety including bottled, fruity ones, draught and flavoured. It does not let the tiny size of the bar stunt its supply. God knows where they fit it all!

A perfect example of how big is not always better. This diminutively sized bar specialises in Belgian beers, and whilst not carrying the same huge range as it larger sister(North Bar, Leeds) always have something of interest. A great bar to meet up for a few civilised ales.
