Yes, I am rating a Wetherspoons 3-​stars. Allow me to explain…
The George is my new local watering hole. As much as I squawk about going to small unknown places to explore different foods, I have to admit when it comes to prices of pints ‘Spoons has the best prices.
On a graduate student budget I can’t afford London prices all the time. Just £3.50 for a pint of good ale over the course of a month, assuming my boyfriend and I only drink 2 pints per week (which we don’t), is £56 and that is enough money to do a decent food shop. The George is a good way of getting a decent pint of real ale for a very decent price, £2.55 or at max £2.99. Honestly, if it weren’t for my disdain for PubCo’s I would go a lot more often.
The fact of the matter is I prefer this place to drink at because it has a very large selection of real ales at a price that I can afford. I have yet to have a bad pint here and the staff is pleasant enough. The main problem is what you would find at any super pub or Wetherspoons… noise. Since it is so popular, The George can get a bit overwhelming and crowded in the evenings and especially on the weekends. If you’re good at drowning out the noise, which you should be if you live in London, it’s actually a decent place to go and have a couple of pints and chat with friends. There have been many nights where my boyfriend and I have wandered into The George, pulled up a few chairs, and had a nice conversation over the din of utensils on plates and other patron’s raucous laughter.
I have waltzed out of this place many times, rosy-​cheeked and a bit happier (usually encouraged by alcohol), and despite knowing it’s a chain-​pub I can’t help but feel like it’s my local. Maybe one day when I am making a bit more money I can uphold my expensive standards but for now this is what my budget allows and I am perfectly content with that.

This place was recommended by hotel as it was in walking distance.
The atmosphere was very alive and bustling when I arrived and seems like a fantastic place to meet friends.
I ordered fish and chips with mushy peas. The fish seemed super seasoned and the peas.. .can I just tell you how much I enjoy green peas?
Especially if they are cooked with whole pearl onions.. .
I would definitely return.

I came here with my boyfriend and a friend to catch up and we had a late lunch. The food I had was not very good, however, my friend and boyfriend thought their food was «good enough».
I ordered nachos and the gourmet chicken burger. I know that I came into a ‘Spoons so I shouldn’t expect high quality, however, I have had chicken burgers at other Wetherspoons. The nachos did not come very hot and the guacamole had poor flavour. The chicken burger I had was dry and the bacon was rubbery. I was not a fan.
My boyfriend ordered the ribs and thought they were good. They weren’t amazing but «good for a Wetherspoons». Make what you will out of that comment.
It’s a great place for drinks though. 2 for £5 for Brooklyn Brewery and £2.60 for a Gin & Tonic… I am a fan! Good ol’ ‘Spoonies!
Come for the cheap drinks, but if you want dinner, maybe go to a different ‘Spoons.
