Amazing pub, it has a wonderful combination of being a traditional local while also having a wide selection of craft beers and imports in the fridges at the back. The bar staff are always friendly and regularly take music requests from the patrons. Another nice touch we’ve found when visiting is that they seem to be one of the few places that offer free draught soft drinks to drivers or other sober party members. The only downside is that it’s so popular that it’s rarely quiet and you may spend some time propping up the bar or tucked into a corner waiting for a seat/table to free up.

Noah or Moses? I need to go back to Sunday school! I began to wonder if there was any hope, but deploying my sharp elbows and a deep holler of «mind yir pints!» soon opened a corridor of biblical proportions for me to saunter through. It was obviously the threat of a spilt pint that did the trick, but nevertheless Moses would have been proud. And there he was, DF. The only one who didn’t move for my arrogance, and with eyes firmly on the fitba telly he said«All right Steph? There’s no hope, Scotland are p*sh tonight!» But there was hope. They’ve added a third fridge full of bottled wonders. Just when I thought I’d only have 50 or so beers to choose from, they come along and add another 25! Help yourself and Bob, is indeed your uncle! But maybe that’s why there’s no room for people in this pub? It’s full of beer fridges. This all suits me perfectly well, as craft beer IS my best friend and people are overrated anyway.

If you like craft beer then this is the place to be in the South Side. No where else has as much variety on offer as the Allison Arms. So from the outside you’d probably see the Allison Arms and not give it a second thought as a destination. Looking to be a pretty standard pub with smokers gathered around the entrance but look a little closer and you will see that most of these smokers are in fact hipsters. An indication of the treasure trove of craft beer that awaits inside. Inside the pub it’s a good mix of punters. For me the perfect blend of the average joe having the regular pint, couples, groups of younger hipster types and then the person who has had maybe one to many who becomes the entertainment. It’s generally always busy in here but that doesn’t mean it’s hard to get served. The bar is huge and in my experience there has always been a member of staff quick to serve you. As mentioned the craft beer selection is unrivalled in the area with two massive fridges of bottles and cans. You just pick one out the fridge and take it to the bar to pay and have it opened. All that selection is actually quite exciting, so much I forgot to check the alcohol percentage and before I knew it Id had three beers at around 8% each. No comment on whether my impression of the pub improved after the said 3 beers. I’d also like to mention is they also have a good selection of gins although not a varied selection of garnishes. They have various events on at the pub from time to time with a pop up babu St kitchen operating on Saturdays recently. Dont wait for someone to take you into here before you go, just do it.

It’s years and years since i was last here, but this was the meeting point for the awesome Unilocal Sunshine Tea Lounge event. Nothing much has changed. It’s got a big square bar right in the centre with tables etc around it. Loads of places to hangout. It was heaving when we were in(Friday night) but the staff were fast and pleasant. The beers on tap were fairly nondescript, but there’s 3 or 4 big fridges at the back, filed with craft beers. My understanding is that this range changes regularly. I went for a(large) bottle of punk ipa — you choose your bottle and take it to the bar to pay. I was also quite impressed at how cheap it was. I got the beer and a soft drink for about a fiver. It was a good choice of place to start the eve — and i think that’s the way it will always be for me. I can’t see myself spending an evening here, but I’m plenty happy to kickstart a night out here.

Absolutely love this place. Yes, the beer selection in the fridges is stellar. I’m always tempted to try something new which is especially fun with German beers whose labels I can not read. What makes this place special, though, is the blend of hipsters and old man regulars. It’s a sometimes awkward combo that is greater than the sum of it’s parts. You can often have a brilliantly weird drunken chat with someone. In addition they have both quiz and karaōke nights. Quiz night is fun though can be right difficult. I think it’s often aimed at it’s regular clientele so I’m baffled by some questions. Karaōke night is a glorious mix of young and old, with people far outdressed for their surroundings. You’ll hear anything from Ice Ice Baby to O Flower of Scotland. Highly recommended. It gets loud and hard to find a place to sit, but it’s convivial.

Met my Unilocaler friends here pre– Sunshine Tea Lounge for a quick drink and a chat. Very unassuming from the outside where people gather to smoke their cigerettes, once inside, there’s loads of people at tables and at the bar enjoying their drinks. There were two cases full of bottled beers to choose from, along with those on tap and of course ciders and hard liquor to choose from. Sarah and I both went for a Mango Raspberry Rekordelig cider and a bag of scampi fries. I actually bought the scampi fries for a wee treat to give to my boyfriend later that night– which he loved. There’s a bar near our flat that used to sell them, but no longer does, so it was nice to be able to buy them. We weren’t in for more than a quick drink before we were wisked away by Briony to the nights adventure, but if I’m ever in the area again, I’d like to think I’d stop back by again.

I really enjoyed visiting the institution that is the Allison Arms! Kris B. and I popped in on a long, leisurely pub crawl through the South Side. They have an amazing range of ales and lagers, not just on taps but in bottle fridges. I like this system; you choose your bottle and pay at the bar. It gives you plenty of time to make your choice without feeling under pressure while there’s a queue at the bar! Staff are friendly, great selection of beers and ciders, although it does get busy at weekends so be prepared for a tight squeeze at times! There’s also only one ladies cubicle so also watch out for the bathroom queue! :P

Really good atmosphere, dog friendly and a fridge of British craft beer! A table is never too hard to grab and always someone too have a chat to. My first experience of closing time was not wonderful as we were already putting on our jackets clearly leaving. A group of couples hardly someone who was going to cause a fuss it was clear the lady was use to having trouble with people not leaving as she proceeded to yell at us all to get out after already banging a bell, we were getting our jackets on and felt as though she was use to screaming at very very drunk men aggressively so they can shut the bar. I understand if she doesn’t do this people would linger. However we were already grabbing our things and were fairly sober and didn’t need to be yelled at to understand. I will be back again regardless just will leave to another bar well before closing time.

This is quite far out of my usual way, but when planning a German beer themed party my wife and I were directed down to The Allison Arms. And it was very good advice! The bar has a very impressive range of imports in the big chillers at the back. But the best thing for me was the service we got! We explained the party and Rosie helped us pick out a dozen different beers and lent us a crate to get them home(as long as we promised to bring it back, which of course we did). The party went very well, and when we returned the empty bottles and crate the same member of staff gave us a keepsake glass as a thank you for the business! Very impressed, the next time anyone asks me for tips on getting German beers or just getting something together for a party I’d recommend The Allison Arms. Ask for Rosie!(Shes the one who looks like Karen Gilan.)

Not a lot of real ales on but who cares the German Bottle selection was bloody brilliant Went for the World Cup footie and this did not disappoint — not a bad seat in the place for watching the match. I would say on match day or just a quick drop-in. This is an excellent choice.

The Allison Arms is a great pub just opposite the recently opened Buddy’s Diner. It has a bar in the middle of the pub that’s huge, so great for leaning against when waiting to be served. The main attraction at the AA is the two beer fridges at the back of the pub. One stocks a mixture of British and foreign craft beers and the other a huge selection of some of the very best German beers you can get in Scotland. The choice changes often but just pick one and see if you like it! There’s nothing to lose :)

Living in Pollokshields, there are a range of pubs not quite on one’s doorstep to choose from, and in recent times I’ve reached the conclusion that Allison Arms is, for my tastes, emphatically the best. I have a number of criteria on which I judge a bar. I’m not really an ale man, unlike some of my friends, but I do enjoy the availability of a wide range of lagers. It’s in this area that Allison Arms particularly, and uniquely excels, with a fridge of mainly German bottled imports available for perusal and selection, to be taken up to the bar and accompanied with a glass. The range is really awe-inspiring and extends to brands that I’ve not even seen while shopping in Der Fatherland! Furthermore, like a growing number of bars, they boast West Brewing company fare on tap, which is something both me and my taste buds are very happy to support! There are plenty of seats inside, and I can’t recall a time when I’ve not managed to secure one, a bonus, because I’m a big lazybones. More than that it’s a great pub for a natter, with folks all crowded round the table and never too much ambient noise. There are also benches outside, for the smoking community. 99.9% of the time that excludes me but I was grateful for them one night when not only did one of my friends become a father for the first time, but in addition another friend revealed that he and his wife were expecting their first born. Needless to say, this all demanded the celebratory smoking of cigars, and since big fat Cuban ones burn pretty slowly, benches were ideal! Allison Arms is also very handy for local fast food outlets, which is a big plus — Shaheeds kebab shop being a particularly noteworthy example! There are a couple of big screen TVs showing football or whatever else is on, although they’re not really the focus. In most cases I think I’d probably choose elsewhere if convening for some proper footy watching, but they proved more than sufficient during the world cup, with England’s dismal display against Algeria a noteworthy fixture my friends took in there. Overall, a great pub, perhaps not the very friendliest at first but they tend to warm to you as your appearances become more regular!

Another one of the friendly bars along this road, The Allison Arms still has that old fashioned pub ambiance, without being rough or ready. As expected, a good range of whiskeys, not amazing– the usual range of beers. It gets busy on the weekends and does have a regular crowd, even if there is usually space for a few more. Like the New Regent, there is no real reason to prefer this bar: it is cheerful, not too loud, has some good fittings, and is certainly worth a visit if you happen to be in the area and thirsty.
