After a day of traipsing around the city in typical July weather, wind and rain, we took shelter in here for a bowl of soup and a sandwich to warm up. The sandwiches were nothing I couldn’t have put together in my own kitchen with a loaf of bread and a visit to the fridges of Tesco. Unfortunately when you’re paying 6 quid for it you’re expecting a little bit more than that. Down to the soup to save the day. Cream of celeriac, not exactly a treat for the tastebuds but it was edible. The soup is served in a tiny bowl that might be enough to satisfy your cat. After a disappointing lunch, two cappuccinos were ordered. Surely they must be able to make a decent coffee, I thought. Well by the time they made it to our table most of it was on the saucers they were served on. The cappuccinos resembled nothing of a proper cappuccino, more like a white coffee with a dusting of chocolate powder swimming on the top. Maybe I went here on a bad day but I’m genuinely wondering if I was in the same place as some of these other reviews? Two stars, just!

So I think I might have just found my new favourite café in Glasgow. I actually checked the reviews on Unilocal first as I can always trust the Unilocalers to know great places! The café on the inside made me feel like I was somewhere abroad, there’s lovely big windows to look out onto Merchant City. The waiter was very friendly and wasn’t breathing down our necks after we’d finished eating to get rid of us. I chose French toast with bacon and maple syrup and it was a dream. I haven’t stopped thinking about it! The French toast was light and fluffy, the bacon crispy(my favourite) and the maple syrup was divine. I was completely stuffed after so unfortunately didn’t get to try their lovely cakes. They have seats outside for sunny days too and when I went there was a constant flow of people, a sign of a great place. I’m already thinking about when I can go next!

Looking for a quick spot of lunch in the Merchant City I opted for Cranberrys café on Wilson Street. I remember being in here some years back and the place being queued out the door but this wasn’t the case on this occasion. There was a lot of staff on — all very friendly and our spot beside the window was good for people watching. The menu has a good selection of sandwiches, bagels, toasties and main meals with an all day breakfast and an assortment of cakes and desserts. Spying a bagel with cream cheese and fresh fruit on the menu I opted for this as its not something I’ve seen or every had before. My bagel came with a side salad and slices of strawberry and kiwi and was pretty tasty but to be honest for the cost(£6.50) its was nothing that special. My friend opted for some soup with bread — again no complaints but nothing to write home about. We split some caramel shortcake which well. was exactly as you’d expect and for £2.25 I’ve had taster shortcakes from the supermarket. With a couple of soft drinks our bill was £17 — a little on the expensive side for a pretty standard lunch and whilst I wouldn’t rush back, our lunch was tasty enough.

It’s the homemade cake that steal the show here. Yes there’s a proper menu, but an unashamed weekend treat is to come to Cranberry’s for a big slice of gooey, sweet, tasty cakiness! The lemon meringue pie wedge was huge and wonderfully tangy. The meringue was plentiful and billowed out like clouds atop a sea of lemon! Yum. My mum enjoyed the soup and brother a brick of millionaires’ shortbread. There’s pastries too, and great coffee. Perfectly located on a busy corner in Merchant City, it’s a great place for a spot of people watching whilst indulging in cake.

I ended up here with some friends from the States was unsure of where to take them and saw Cranberry’s still open for another half an hour. We where only allowed to order juices /tea, coffee and cakes. The two kids in the group ordered milkshakes to me that didn’t look right, I’ve worked in the food trade for over 25 years and could see that there was no wow factor here looked just like Crusha syrup with milk and a straw. The biggest let down in Glasgow is that majority of places buy in than make in house, not a lot of the cakes here looked homemade even though they where marked at home made prices. Cranberry’s café is on the expensive side for what you get, there is nothing special here as if it’s missing something. It just might have been the wow factor, there was nothing there to make me want to come back.

I am so pleased that Cranberrys is back in business following its recent burst pipe: it has quite a following who travel from far and wide to enjoy their warm welcome, very friendly staff and delicious food. Sit indoors, or outside on Wilson Street or Brunswick Street, it commands a great corner location.

What can i say about Cranberry’s… Well, let me begin with this. Cranberry’s is probably one of my favourite tearoom’s in Glasgow. It has a nice, homely feel to it, and I always love to take my friends or family there. Even if it gets a bit busy, you can still enjoy yourself, and have a proper conversation, as the place is pretty peaceful, whereas places like Starbucks are bloody mobbed 24⁄7! So if you’re planning a trip to this particullar café I can assure you, you will not regret it. You will love the whole atmosphere and the staff are lovely too. Also, try their cakes, they are just top class!

My aunt treated me to lunch at Cranberry’s while we were shopping in Glasgow. What a charming café! Good food, baked goodies and coffee and friendly service. The staff was very accommodating when I asked to make substitutions to my baked potato to suit my finicky(or perhaps American?) tastes. They prepared me a chili con carne potato with cheddar(not on their menu), no problem! My latte was tasty as well as the caramel shortbread I split with my Aunt. Definitely a nice, relaxed, afternoon. I would certainly return next time I visit.

Despite being quite modern in some ways, I always feel Cranberry’s has the kind of old-fashioned charm that reminds me of ration books, Dame Vera Lyn, and sing-songs round the piano. It’s in effect a granny-style tearoom with a modern twist, and for me, one of the big hitters in the often slightly underwhelming Merchant City. You know the drill, coffees, cream teas, light lunches and sarnies with the crusts cut off. It’s all of a very high standard, admittedly with prices to match, and is one of the few places in town where both a young professional and a senile old spinster would feel at home.

Is it just me or is Cranberrys a really cute name for a café? Cranberrys is in the Merchant City, which seems to permanently be evolving from one thing to another but this little tea room remains a reassuring constant. It is a pleasant little tea room which hits the right balance of modern and traditional. While there are lots of nice cafes in Glasgow Cranberrys is a little bit different in that it serves proper home cooked meals as well as the usual soup and sandwiches fair. Like Stephanie, I also opted for the lasagna which was really nice, in fact it was better than many I’ve had in Italian restaurants. The prices are pretty extortionate though and I doubt I’ll be back for lunch again. I would definitely recommend Cranberrys as a nice place to stop off for a leisurely coffee and something sweet on your next shopping trip in the city though.

Cute and traditional without reminding you too much of being force fed cabbage at your grannies. this wee caff is one of Merchant City’s finest. As well as coffees, soups and sandwiches, Cranberry’s also do light meals, which in my opinion, are just as good as you would get in a restaurant. They serve up things like smoked salmon salad, lasagna and haggis, neeps and tatties, brilliant if you are showing a visitor the sights of the Toon. I opted for the lasagna which was pretty pricey at 7.50 without chips, but very tasty indeed. The portion sizes are small, which is what you would expect from a boutique café like this. The coffees are reasonably priced at under 2.00 for a cappuccino, but they are nothing special. Gorgeous wee place, but the prices reflect the location. Go for an afternoon cuppa and a slice of cake(which i hear is amazing!).

Effectively a traditional tea room but with a modern twist, Cranberry’s avoids being old-fashioned but has all the delights of a cosy café. Serving up teas, coffees, cakes and light snacks such as sandwiches and salads it is suitable for a treat and a leisurely lunch. The food is quite unusual — don’t expect boring, bogstandard sandwishes here. A favourite of mine is the delicious coronation chicken — and I’m fussy about my coronation chicken. It is essentially a Merchant City café and the prices reflect that. It is, I’d say, pretty over-priced but I guess it’s to be expected for a nice café in this location.
