This restaurant is a lot better than its counterpart in the centre of the city. I have been going here for years and I had dinner here last Sunday, I had pizza and I also tried the Carbonara! Good portion size for the price! The interior design is beautiful and smart. The service is good and eating here was a pleasure. Recommend this place for pizza lovers.

Now that Paperino’s has sadly closed we’re on the lookout for a new alternative in the West End. I hadn’t been a fan of Di Maggio’s in the past but having never visited this particular restaurant we thought we’d give it a whirl. Booking was done online via their website & was very simple. We were given a nice booth near the rear of the restaurant which was nice. The interior of the restaurant was very cosy & quite swish looking, nicer than Paperino’s I would say. This is most definitely a family-friendly restaurant with what looked like a wee playroom at the back for kids to have fun in whilst the parents get swallyed(probably). Only thing I did think was odd for being such a family-friendly place they didn’t have a stand alone changing room, instead there was a changing bench in the(quite wee) Ladies loo. Which meant as I was waiting to use the toilet(there’s only 2) I had a wee toddler eyeballing me as the delightful aroma of baby poo filled the air… Mmm. S’nice. The staff here were all very friendly & efficient. Although they did try to give me a beer I hadn’t ordered & also added it to our bill, but they soon made their apologies & it was swiftly taken off as soon as we pointed it out. We ordered from the pre-theatre menu which was £11.95 for 2 courses. For starters I had the Pâté stuffed Deep Fried Mushrooms which were really good. My boyfriend had the BBQ Ying Yang Chicken(for a small supplement extra) which were also very tasty. For mains I chose the Di Maggio Pizza which was a pizza with any 4 toppings of your choice. I chose salami, spinach, chilli and extra cheese(because I am a cheese fiend!), my boyfriend had the Calzone. We also ordered French Fries & I was expecting the skinny type of Fries that I LOVE but what we got were just regular sized chips that weren’t anything particularly special… not so much French Fries as Scottish Oven Chups. Hmph. My pizza was a bit of a disappointment. The toppings were really nice(lots of fresh baby spinach, yum!) but the base was a let down. It tasted a bit like a shop bought/oven pizza base. Bah. The Calzone was also a let down with not a great or very tasty filling & there also wasn’t much in the way of it. Shame. Not wanting to leave on a disappointed note we decided to share a dessert — the Cinnamon Waffles with Maple Syrup & Ice Cream and I also had a coffee(an espresso con panna). The coffee was really good and the Waffles were really really lovely; lots of cinnamon and maple syrup — delicious. They had redeemed themselves with this sweet treat! To sum up our Di Maggio’s experience I would say nice surroundings, starters, staff and dessert, shame about the main courses/pizzas and nappy-scented, wee toilets. Would I go back? Probably, but when there’s better pizza restaurants in Glasgow I certainly won’t be rushing back. If Di Maggio’s upped their pizza game then this place would be really good. This place might be great for families but it needs to be more than just a ‘good family friendly Scottish-Italian restaurant’ to lure in new customers and to make sure folk dine here rather then the new Pizza Express that has recently opened in Paperino’s place or other Italian/Pizza restaurants in town.

So much better than their city centre counterpart! Had a beautiful late lunch on saturday, I had the fettucine but also stole a bit of pizza and both were amazing. Portion sizes were immense and for the price were great. The décor is very 90’s family italian and it isnt the most sophisticated place you will ever go. But it was a great place for good food and good service with a main setting you back £15 at the very most. Plus you get drumstick lollies with your bill! How good is that?

The best phrase to describe this place is Italian Dining for Scottish Families. This is a place to bring the wife and kids and get a decent meal. It has a selection of Italian and Café standard favourites. No Risotto here. So, you will not get an Authentic Italian meal here — rather the acceptable Italian fare that Scots love. Is there anything wrong with this? Nope. They do this well and do not charge a bundle. You can take the kids and everyone will get something that they like. Di Maggio is a Glasgow chain that caters to this market and pulls it off.

If you could see me right now you would be witnessing a man/goat child, doffing his cap to a Italian food chain he once thought to be part of the ‘same old story’ brigade of over priced, chain joints. WRONG…Used these guys recently for ordering some pizza for home delivery. Previous experience had suggested that we would be receiving bland grub, which would leave the belly wanting and the pocket empty. This though was quite the opposite. We plumped for a couple o pizzas, one veg, one meat tastic, along with some sides etc… all very tasty, especially the sides which are usually a big let down with these joints. All in all, a nice experience and one which has totally changed my mind on these guys. Good grub, decent prices… can you ask for more?

There are several Di Maggios restaurants in and around Glasgow and of them all this is my favourite. As with all Di Maggios restaurants it’s invariably very busy and you should book a table if possible to avoid disappointment — or a long wait! I would classify this restaurant as being slightly posher than it’s sisters — possibly due to it’s location?!? but that doesn’t mean it’s unwelcoming, on the contrary, there is always a very friendly, warm atmosphere. Some other Di Maggios I’ve been to are very loud and brash — so much so you can hardly hear yourself chew your pizza, but despite the busyness of this place, you can enjoy each others conversation if you’re there as part of a group. The food is always excellent, with the usual good choice and the staff are friendly and provide a good level of service.
