It’s getting harder to tell the difference between Homebase and B&Q these days, as they both sell the same sort of stuff — hardware, lighting, paints, tools, bathrooms, kitchens, and so on. The main difference seems to be in the colour scheme; Homebase favours a green flavour where B&Q go for the orange look. Like many of the larger B&Q’s, this Homebase has a garden centre attached, and given its location in suburban Bearsden it does rather well in that department. Homebase are often just a little bit cheaper in some areas than their rival, and we actually bought our kitchen units here a few years ago as they had a better deal on offer. This branch is a bit out of the way for us, but I do sometimes drop in when I’m passing, and on this occasion I was looking for some LED lamps to replace the CFLs in our lounge chandelier as I dislike the light quality of CFLs intensely. Sadly, my desire to enhance my Green credentials didn’t entirely work as when I got home I discovered that one of the five lamps was a dud, so that meant another trip in the car back out to Milngavie for a replacement. So much for the carbon footprint…
