This place is packed with really reasonably priced homeware/hardware. It’s especially great for students– you can get your keys cut here, pick up some lightbulbs, paint, rollers, brushes, a whole host of no-damage wall hanging items, caulk, film to insulate your windows during the winter, and all for such a great price! The owner is the nicest and most hard working guy, he is very knowledgable and made excellent recommendations for me. Add in the convenience of the location and it’s a go-to for any hardware I need! They also have useful things for the kitchen, pots and pans for really cheap, and any kind of tape you could need!

I’m glad this place took credit cards and they had what I was looking for. I needed a light bulb and some screw drivers. I came in and just asked for what I needed. The salesperson directed me to my options and even threw away my old light bulb. Hey thanks! They have alot of things in the very small space so it can feel overwhelming to look around.

This is small shop, packed to the roof with DIY essentials. I’ve lived nearby for four years, but only go i when there’s a problem at home — so probably 2 – 3 times a year. The owner is friendly, seems happy to give advice on jobs and, handily, knows where everything is. The prices are reasonable and I’ve found that the owner doesn’t push the most expensive options. And they cut keys, which is nice.

This place is always my immediate go-to, whether I need some bug killer, a bulb or a spare key. Speaking of which, if you do find yourself in need of a key-cutting service, I cannot recommend the West End Hardware shop highly enough; far cheaper than the big name stores and the job is done in front of you, there and then, with no «Come back in half an hour» nonsense. The owner is friendly and will not hesitate to offer assistance if you seem at a loss for what you’re looking for. Also, a wee tip — drop in around Hallowe’en and you’ll find a wide selection of fancy dress wigs, at far more reasonable prices than I’ve seen elsewhere. An absolute gem of a shop!

The young man that works(and I persume owns) in this little hardware shop is perhaps the most helpful customer sales assistant I have ever come across. The first time I used his shop we needed every colour of spray paint under the sun and he stocked a huge selection at a very reasonable price! But the top tip for this place is his ke cutting. I lost my keys on a night our only last month and Timpson were charing a 5er per key! No thank you! I got 3 keys cut from West End Hardware for around 5 pounds! Bargain. And the guy threw in the wee key covers, so I knew which key was which, for free! Excelent customer service and his shower curtains aint half bad either!

Good old Westend Hardware. A phrase I have uttered many times when this under-rated shop once again produced the goods in an unpredictable scenario. Generally speaking, if you need something that you can’t find in any other shop, you’ll find it here. Particularly since Woolies bit the dust. Case in point, my dad desired a magnify glass after purchasing a book he was unable to read. And, well, Westend Hardware had one. Not the best story I’ve ever told, but relevant here.

Back in my student days, this shop had the window that I would stare at, looking for a new place to stay, usually after I had exhausted the company of my latest flatmates. These days, I actually buy tools to fix things, and do so with trepidation. I prefer coming hereto using the big chains– first of all, they have quality stuff and secondly, they are always willing to help. In fact, I think that they enjoy showing me the error of my soft ways. Not only is it convenient, it is cheap, and always has the tool for the job. Mind, that tool is usually a screwdriver when I am involved, since I have lost nearly all of the ones I have ever brought. That might explain why they keep in business as trendy shops come and go around them.

This little hardware store on Great Western road is quite messy and cluttered, however the customer service you receive here is amazing. Not only is the owner friendly and willing to help, he will gladly go out of his way to find exactly what you need, with a bit of friendly banter thrown in for good measure. This guy sells everything from tool kits to glow sticks, always trying to accommodate his customers, whether they be wood shavers or hardcore ravers.

Do you need something practical for your home? Do you need a filler, dieing for a screw or in need of a big old hammer??? Well this my filthy minded reader this is the place for all your hardware needs. Nestled on Great Western Road this wee shop is a fantastic emporium of all things handy. Filled to the very brim with all that you would imagine of a place like this and more, i really cant be any more enthusiastic about this place. Having lived in this general area for the last 5 –6 years, this has always been my first stop when i have the«eh…is that broken?» moment. With a remedy for my home ailment usually in stock and a helpfull handy owner always willing to offer help and assistance a the drop of a hardhat(boom, boom!!), the West End Hardware is the finest of place to be… West End Hardware, it does exactly what it says on the… eh, sign.

This is one of those, ‘we have everything and anything you could ever want or need for your home’ shops. From ladders, to cat baskets, drying racks and coathooks, this place is rammed full of useless, useful and strange objects designed to make homelife easy. Personally, I popped in here for some cleaning sponges(how glamourous!) and the guy behind the counter could tell me everything about sponges. Literally. We spoke about the merits and disadvantages of different brands, different shapes… I never knew that I had soaked up so much info about sponges(no pun intended). I left with a smile on my face, and the knowledge that I had made the right choice. My sponges worked a treat!

With Woolworths dead there is a real gap in the market for a shop that sells those things that a girl can not get buy without — TV aerials, plug extension cords, even the odd mop and bucket. Yes as much as we try to avoid it we all have to go to the hardware store from time to time. Western Hardware is a great little place that sells all the basics that you could ever want. I first went in about 4 years ago when I needed to hang a particularly large picture and the man behind the desk was great. He asked about the size and dimensions and then he told me what nails and hooks I would need. I have since been in a number of occasions; the latest was to buy a new hammer. Again he was really helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend going to this shop if you need anything in the handy department and do not want to trek out into the wilderness that is out of town shopping!
