Let me tell you, I am a new convert to this Marie Curie Cancer Care Hospice Shop.(Yes, yes, I know that was a bit of a mouthful — but that’s what they like to be called). It’s much bigger than all the other charity shops on Dumbarton Road, and has a great selection of items on offer. Plus, the group of old ladies who run it are lovely! In fact, instead of browsing haphazardly through a few rails and maybe swapping the spare change in the bottom of my handbag for a paperback or two — I actually came away with a Really Exciting Purchase. So exciting, in fact, that it deserved to be capitalised. Want to know what I bought? Well, at the moment Marie Curie Cancer care are selling specially printed wellington boots in aid of their cause. There are three different designs, but mine are covered in printed daffodils. Sensible AND stylish, as well as costing only £8. My advice? Get down there pronto.

What appears to be your average grubby charity shop is actually filled with hidden gems that are worth a bit of rummaging. On a recent charity shop trek around the west end, I popped in here for a look around, and almost missed the wee tub of tat on the counter. Amongst the tangled necklaces and broken beads I found myself a lovely little cameo brooch, a little tattered and a lot of character, for only £1. Something that would easily fetch around a tenner in high street stores at the moment, and I managed to find the real deal for a fraction of the price. This is exactly why I love a wee nosey around seemingly sad charity shops, as they’re often harbouring the most fantastic finds.
