Delicious food and great value! Fair warning — we booked for 7.30pm on a Saturday and had to retreat to Vodka Wodka because our table wasn’t ready — we weren’t seated until 8.10pm.(However we were given a couple of free drinks.) The tables are also very close together! But both of these things didn’t really bother me. A wee bonus anecdote — an old slightly drunk chap at the table next to me also got confused when he went for a pee and thought that the toilet round the corner was somehow just the gents — not just the gents next to the ladies. He stood there peeing happily with the door open as disgusted lady diners passed by to go to the ladies WC.

Ian and I were famished and after a wee donner round Granny Would be Proud vintage and craft fair we decided to eat out somewhere along Ashton Lane. I just took the notion as I couldn’t be bothered heading into town. I was on a mission for wedding paper and some accessories for myself and I thought a wander through Ashton Lane might inspire me. We came across Mimmo’s Bistro, which I hadn’t really noticed before as Vodka Wodka underneath is more eye catching but I’m glad we stopped and spotted the menu. We saw they had a lunch deal on for 2 courses and we thought bargain. I had a lovely starter of mozerella sticks followed by a parma ham, cheese(can’t remember what kind) and caramelised onion bagette with proper homemade chips. They tasted just the way my mum(mamma) would cook them. Mmmm! The restaurant is one of the tiniest I’ve ever been in, it’s very quaint. It had about 8 tables but they adapt with moving tables depending on however many people come in. It was light and airy and the décor was very traditional Italian given the feeling of been in some cosy restaurant in some remote part of Italy. Well, I’ve never been but that’s how I imagine it to be. The service was good, they were quite run off their feet but they did a good job. I would definitely recommend for a tasty treat for lunch with the excellent prices and for a bit of escapism. Molto buona!

I came here for payday lunch a couple of months ago after my lab mates raving about it and was not disappointed. It was £5.75 for two courses — a bargain! I had the tuna salady thing to start(it was a while ago so cant remember what they called it!) which was spot on and followed it up with the vegetable risotto. The risotto was lovely and has turned me into an aubergine/courgette convert, which I wasn’t previously. My only gripe would be that it wasn’t all that warm but still good nonetheless!

A great option for lunch on Ashton Lane, with several very nice Italian & Scottish dishes that, extraordinarily, will only set you back a mere £5.75 for two courses! It’s a wee place, but there’s usually room and the service is sufficiently quick for a week day lunch. The best lunch time deal I know outside of Edinburgh(where you can get 3-courses of Italian cuisine for just a fiver at Bar Napoli).

How cute is this little place! And when I say little, I couldn’t mean it more literally. This place can seat about 25 people at a huge push, although I would say comfortably about 20. It is so cute and traditional, with chequered table cloths, plastic fruit and sweet Italian songs serenading you over the sound system. We came for lunch and I had the fish cakes, which were superb. The waiter was absolutely lovely, and even though the place was packed, he was so attentive to us on our visit. The two course menu is under £6, which is unbelievable value. Gorgeous wee Bistro with bags of character and bursting with flavourful dishes– a fabulous find.

There’s a charm about Mimmo’s Bistro that’s both endearing and reminiscent of a Disney movie. Set the trendy and colourful Ashton Lane, you’ll find it tucked above Brel and Vodka Wodka. The menu is simple and traditional. If you pop in during lunchtime then you can pick up two courses for a very reasonable £5.95. You won’t be blown over by the quality of the food but there’s a homely flavour to their cooking which seperates itself from other chain like restaurants. At night I can imagine it to be an enchanting place for a small and inexpensive dinner date but if you’re in a large group you might feel a bit awkward taking up most of the restaurant!

Mimmo’s is absolutely my favourite Italian restaurant in Glasgow. My boyfriend and I discovered it one evening whilst wandering down Ashton Lane looking for somewhere to dine, and I’m so glad we did. Upon entering, my coat was taken by the incredibly friendly moustached waiter, with added Italian hospitality. Once seated, we were greeted with menus and banter, as Italian power ballads belted out from their old school tape player(which they stopped to rewind every so often, much to my amusement). What I love about Mimmo’s is its unpretentious nature, which is surprising for a place of such quality and prestigious postcode. The food is of exceptional quality, without being overly pricey and the portions are very generous. After visiting again and again, I discovered the two course lunch menu for £5.25, which includes my regular order of crostini bread with pesto and mushrooms, and baked potato with Mediterranean vegetables. I’m sure there are three Ms in the name for a reason…

Cute as can be! Tucked away in Ashton Lane up a set of steps, this little(teeny tiny) bistro is a hidden delight. Delicious food(with lunch deals at… well, lunch time) and fantastic service you can’t help but fall in love with this charming and quaint little place. Highly recommended.

Size isn’t everything! Don’t be put off by the size of this tiiiiiny bistro above Vodka Wodka in Ashton Lane. In fact, I think it’s rather cute. A traditional Italian style restaurant — from the checkered red/white table cloths, to the candlelit bistro… it’s very ‘lady and the tramp’ esq. I felt like the big jolly chef would come out at any minute and place some spaghetti and meatballs in front of me and my friends… haha. The menu is quite basic, with no fancy words to confuse you(me likey!), and the food is great. I love the carbonara and homemade garlic bread. Mmm… I tend to stop here for lunch as it’s just round the corner from uni, and the food is inexpensive. Perfect for student’s, travellers, or folks on a budget. Definitely.
