Went in there for the first time for a meal(been in before for drink). Had the chicken drumsticks and garlic mushrooms for starter, which were ok(got a bit of salad with the mushrooms as well), but the chicken could’ve used a bit longer in the oven. For the main, i had their 5-a-day salad with added grilled chicken breast. While the salad was great and i absolutely loved the tiny pepper drops(bell peppers in the shape of a teardrop), the chicken had an unpleasant aftertaste, as if it had been sitting in a cold oven or near oven cleaner. Others in my party had their usuals– jacket potato with chilli and chilli with chips and they were quite satisfied. After the meal we moved downstairs to have a few drinks, when i went to get a round in, i paid by card and two different bank cards were declined several times, using different card machines(despite both cards having adequate funds on it) and i was advised to ‘give my bank a wee phone’ as the machines had been working perfectly all day. I had to get my partner to lend me some cash and felt quite awkward. About 10 minutes later they had put signs up saying ‘card machines not working’, even though moments ago it had been my ‘fault’ for the card payments not going through. Might go back in for drinks or food again, but probably not any time soon.

The Maltman was quite quiet the other day whilst other pubs nearby were busy, this pub is one of the places my friend and I meet up as we can usually get a seat! The pub is good for sports, they advertise upcoming matches and show them on the TV. We have eaten here before, and found the food to be good quality pub fayre, nothing particularly unusual but tasty enough, and fairly priced for what you get. The Maltman does St Mungo beer on tap, and Strongbow Dark Fruits which suited our evening nicely, and also they were advertising an unusual Belgian bottled beer with tasting notes on the bar. I was particularly taken that they have a special buy one get one free offer on softdrinks for drivers– a nice touch in the festivities.

I came here a few days ago for a birthday lunch with my mum, sister and niece and we had a lovely time, the food was lovely and cheap and the atmosphere was cosy and welcoming. Would definitely recommend if your looking for a bite to eat and cool drink and most importantly it is child friendly.

I go to the maltman for lunch when I am in town. I always have a great lunch experience. The staff are very friendly and see to all your needs. It’s a very nice relaxed atmosphere with lots of different sports on loads of TVs. Keep it up!

This pub is for older people, l don’t often see younger people there. there seems to be a good crowd that come at weekends but during the week its pretty much dead. They do mostly microwave food or deep fried, you cant miss the adverts pushing to sell 2 for 1 burgers and so on they are that bad for posters everywhere they even have one at the urinals giving you something to read whilst tending to your business.

Nowt much going on in here beyond the usual generic Glasgow city centre pubby pub. Cheap food, cheapish booze and cheap finishing. You’ll not find anything in here that’ll blow you away, yet on the other side of the coin, it’s solid, reliable and a decent shout to grab the football if you’re in town. With so many great bars in and around this area, it’s for the latter reason, that I found myself in here and i’m fairly certain, that it’ll take another game on ra telly and me being in the city for me to return here.

I was in the Maltman on Saturday night between the hours of 8pm and midnight. It was quite busy when I first arrived and got steadily busier as the night went on. The DJ was ‘old skool’, and so was most of his music. It was obvious that he’s been dying his hair ‘dark’ to try and keep himself looking young, but, to be fair to him, he’d have put a younger DJ to shame with the energy levels he had. He played track after track that had the punters up on the little dancefloor. A greater percentage of his choices were from the seventies, there were sixties classics in there along with eighties music right up to Alexis Jordan’s new song, Good Girl. I don’t think it’s the place to go if you’re a young poser. It wouldn’t work here. The majority of the clientele have been there, seen it, been dumped a few times and picked themselves up and just don’t care about how they have a good time any more. Everyone was having a good time, whether they were dancing or just standing at the side pointing at the dancers. A hen party came in and stayed for a few drinks and dances and had a good time before they moved on. The bar staff were all very good and attentive to who was next. The length of the bar made it possible to get ‘in’ to get served without being blocked by the usual statutory barflies. I can’t fault this pub very much at all. There was a minibus load of women that come down from Falkirk every Saturday because they love the atmosphere in the pub so much. I didn’t eat here, so I can’t tell you what their food is like. I can only say that it was a well run bar and I think that it’s more like a big ‘singles bar’ for the over thirties. There was one bouncer that didn’t quite understand the ethos of the pub he worked in, but still managed to get the job done.

A totally acceptable city centre pub to frequent, the Maltman, as expected, can attract a slightly rough around the edges crowd at the weekends but remains a good spot for cheap food and drink. Admittedly, it’s seriously no thrills. Dull carpets, typical John Barras’ décor and little else of note, you won’t impress too many people by taking them here. But for a quiet spot to watch the Champions League in your scabby clothes and your approaching-empty wallet, you could certainly do a hell of a lot worse.

This is the halfway house between an old mans bar and a Weatherspoons, so the clientele is a bit confused. Some young lads and some very, very old lads is the usual groups in here with the odd spattering of suits from some of the businesses in and around the area. It’s fairly well priced for a city centre pub and the staff and friendly and amiable. The bar menu has all the usual fare and for prices that stand up to a McDonalds or a Burger King the advantage here of course being that you can have a frothy pint with your meal instead of an overly gassed coke or lemonade. Words to the wise, the pool table is about as level as the Royal Mile, so it’s not really worth popping your money in.

God, they sure do love their karaōke in here. I’m not a fan of the«sport» but I’ve seen some crackers in here. Real Dads in action giving it Angels by Robbie Williams in the most out of tune manner possible. It’s not my cup of tea but your gran, aunt and uncle might have a good laugh in here. The Maltman serves of pub food and drinks at good prices. Just don’t come here at night looking for a fine night of jazz.

Another nondescript Glasgow pub, located on Renfield Street, near the corner of West Regent Street. The Maltman is an old fashioned style pub, with lots of big tables and chairs and a good-looking bar. It’s all quite rustic, all the while keeping an air of sophistication(or what passes for pub sophistication in Glasgow), as it is not too run-down or dingy. It was very quiet when I visited, so it would be difficult for me to guess the ilk of its clientele. Either way, I wandered in here on a weekday afternoon with my friends from Belfast woh didn’t want me to take them somewhere trnedy, and were dying for a cheap and easy lunch. Well, that’s exactly what we found here at the Maltman! Their pub menu has all the usual dishes and trimmings. I had a burger and chips which were great for the price. Nothing special, but it definitely hit the spot. Not a bad wee place to pop in for lunch or a drink on-the-go.
