The interior is like an 18+ certificate version of Laura Ashley. Or Laura Ashley in her angry teenage years. Which by regular standards of hormone ridden angst filled teenagers really isn’t all that angry. Lots of lilacs and pretty patterns with a skull here and there and meerkats. Sunday is live music which was a really great treat. The selection of ales and beers is impressive. There also was cupcakes at the bar which was rather random but again that was Laura unable to suppress what she is — quaint. Service was very friendly. Nice mixed crowd. Feels like a spot that you would go for one or two drinks. Great big tables to write or read on. Wifi is: pourhouse1984

A welcome addition to the Finnieston area. Pourhouse has a modest menu that is full of everything you would want from some pub grub, with a few surprises thrown in. My side salad included sweetcorn! Never seen that before. Good portions for the price in terms of the food, with a well stocked bar. There’s a few super comfy booths and lots of nice natural light coming in the huge windows facing Argyle Street. We jumped down a Sunday afternoon which was nice and quiet, with a great acoustic duo from after 2pm. Live music every Sunday according to their website, which is fine by me. Would like to go back and give it a try for a wee boozy session to see how that goes, as it appears to be quite small inside. Great first impression though with a funky interior and nice staff.

Heavens this place was busy! Maybe I was a little naïve in thinking the joint wouldn’t be that busy on a Thursday night, but I then remembered it was at the start of the Easter Weekend and thus the beginning of a four day drink-a-thon! With a few Unilocalers in attendance, the plan was clear. Check this place out. Get it on Unilocal and get it reviewed! Done, done and done! So, for anyone out there thinking ‘eh? Just where is this place then?’ For those who know the area fairly well, Pourhouse is located on the site of the long dead/waiting to die Gazelle. Now before you think it’s just a rebrand, lick o paint and new signage job, let me just stop you. The downfall of the previous incumbent was down to a number of things, one in chief being it’s dark and dingy feeling that it was never able to shake off o indeed pull off sufficiently that it ended up being a drawing point. The new folks in here have tackled this issue head on and either added windows in some cases, or enlarged them in others. Gone too are the dark walls, drab décor and shady wee booths. In there place, everything seems bright shiny(still has that new car smell) and welcoming. Service wise, there’s a real effort gone in to ensuring that the aloof bar-staff cliché is not affirmed in this establishment. Table service, something that’s really not common, is offered, as is friendly banter from the older chap behind the bar. We popped in for food on this occasion and the feelings were mixed, but not entirely negative. As Andrew C mentions, the nachos are a bit of a ‘eh… chili at the bottom?’ and the burger buns make you feel like you have to make some jaw alterations to enable you to take a bite(whit’s wrong with a soft bun eh?), but the quality was apparent, even if the execution was just a little off. Drinks wise, well it’s a definite hats off. Not sure if I spotted a big T, but if I did, it was surrounded by a decent collection of big brand lagers, as well as some ales, a good bottled collection and a fair range of spirits etc. In all, I think this place needs another visit, or a first one if yer reading this review. It’s a strong place that without a doubt adds to the growing awesome vibe in Finnieston. Check it out. Let me know yer thoughts.

Thursday early evening and this place is buzzing. There is something about Argyle street that gets people out. The bar seems small but bright with the large windows creating lovely light on the two-tone blue interior. Add a massive assortment of eclectic ornaments and some interesting furniture and you create something that looks like a worthwhile visit. Staff are great and get my pint out promptly. Decently poured Deuchars — always a good thing. Finally, I spot a table and grab it in anticipation of the rest of the Unilocal Party showing up. As the regulars filter in, the suggestion of food is raised. A starter of nachos for the table, followed up by a burger. I recently had something similar at the Mercat Bar in Edinburgh. A gastropub that Pourhouse seems to be similar to. The Nachos were weird. Nacho chips were decent, with cheese melted on top, chunky jalapenos scattered across and the beef chilli all at the bottom of the bowl. The guacamole, salsa(chunky bits of tomato) and finally sour cream were in small bowls on the side. The components were not bad but the construction was off. To get to the chilli you had to pile through the chips, but then you had no chips for the chilli. Maybe if we re-arranged them by dumping the chips on a side plate and then pouring the chilli on top with the sides as well? Not sure how this is supposed to work. I do not like being confused by food. I understand it from a cooking perspective: Chilli in the bowl, microwave it, nachos on top with cheese and under the grill. It is just that it is easier to cook than eat. Not good. Then the bacon cheeseburger arrived. Looked great. Onions tomato, lettuce and decent arrangement of bacon and melted cheese on the patty. The Chip«log cabin», that seems to be «the way» to present chips these days, is next to it. The burger bun, however, kind of let the whole thing down. Chris abandoned his halfway through the dish. The bun was fresh but tough due to an egg wash on top. It just made it difficult to get through the thing without the bits squirting out the side. So, would I go back? Definitely, but I would not get the food. The location is decent and the selection of drinks is really good. Until the menu gets sorted out, I would probably eat some place else. The problem for Pourhouse is that the opportunity to go elsewhere is ever-present on Argyle.
