Had dinner with a few friends — nine of us in total. Service was a bit patchy — half of us had finished before the other half got served our mains. Pies were very tasty, with good veg on the side. We had a wide range from steak and kidney to rabbit. The old fashioned atmosphere and décor was quirky — Mrs Miggins Pieshop from Blackadder comes to mind. Overall, it was worth a visit, but perhaps a little bit expensive for what you get.

an absolute must try when in Lincoln. Very creative, very fresh and very flavorful starters, and what can one say about the meat pies but«I’ll have another, please!»? I tried an entrée other than pie, fresh water trout, and found it perfectly prepared, well seasoned and presented. Great ambiance. A true treat of a place.

I recently visited Brown’s on a trip to England with a friend. He told me that he had been before and said we should go while we were in Lincoln. We didn’t have enough time to dine in, but even though we weren’t too terribly hungry we decided to get a pie to go and split it. They only had about 4 different types to choose from on the to-go list, but we got a chicken and mushroom one and found a nearby bench to sit and eat. We gobbled up that first pie and decided we wanted more, so we went back in and ordered 3 more pies to go. I think this story alone tells you how much we liked the food. We didn’t try any of the cold pies and we didn’t dine in, so I can’t comment on those items, but overall it was a tasty experience. The staff that we did meet in the front room was nice and friendly. I would go back here anytime I find myself in Lincoln again!

Tasty pies, in a warm setting. Worth a visit, but the price is only fair if you go with the Pie of the Day option.

My traveling companions were very excited when they caught sight of Browns Pie Shop while overnighting in Lincoln. We agreed to have dinner at the restaurant, hoping for a simple, quiet meal. The restaurant itself is very small but quaint. The facilities were in need of cleaning, and the restaurant itself was a bit too dark for my taste, but it was indeed quiet, which is what we were seeking. I didn’t find the food to be stellar. The mussels were simply alright, and while the chicken leek and mushroom pie was well-cooked, it wasn’t particularly tasty. It needed a bit more seasoning to help bring out the flavors. I didn’t find the waitstaff to be overly attentive. There were several times when my drink needed refilling and the waitress was no where to be found. However, she was very polite and friendly. Overall, I found Browns Pie Shop to be quite average. I think the area has better to offer.

Its a bit of a novelty taking friends to a pie shop where there do meals. in a pie. I concur with other Qypers that you feel little disapointed as it is clear that the tourist prices are not conjusive to a fair meal for a fair price. Nothing withstanding that the staff are friendly, the restaurant is clean and tidy and the novelty value generally makes up for its other failings. I keep going back with visitors though.

We were a party of 7 celebrating my daughter’s birthday. Our table was tightly packed in the far corner of the room with not much room to move, let alone eat. We ordered a fair selection of pies between us, mine was the game pie which was absolutely disgusting. A very nice puff pastry top covered 4 pieces of stringy sinuey something bathing in a luke warm creamy slop that tasted of viniger. On testing a piece of this aforsaid game a part of it wedged between 2 of my teeth and gave me a lot of trouble removing it, it was horendous! My son in law had the rabbit pie which was very similar. Vegtables were megre, undercooked and cold. Each meal was served with 2 badly cooked roast potatoes and no gravy of any kind. My wife had steak and ale pie which she seemed to enjoy but comented on it’s megre proportions. We didn’t order the sweets but instead went to a nearby pub as the ambiance in this little shack was too austere. The general feeling of all of us was that although some of it could be said to be edible, these pies were definiately not to the standard of a £12.95 pie. You would do much better going to your local pub where a decent plate of food can be enjoyed at half the cost. I will never come here again nor will I recommend it to anyone. How you stay in business as a restaurant in such a nice part of town defies all credibility. Perhaps a local chip shop Pukka pie would be the better choice here.

The best meal I had in the UK! The pies were very fresh and tasty. Every diner at our table sampled a different type and all were satisfied. The dining room is small but quaint with a nice wine list and fairly attentive waitstaff. You cannot pass up Brown’s Pie Shop if you find yourself in Lincoln!

I was here several times, always busy with a good selection of pies, as well as other dishes. Quite expensive for Lincoln, but a nice treat

To be perfectly honest, I have only been here once and found the food to be off putting as a child(I was about 12 when I went) There simply was nothing that I would eat there. It is very popular locally though.

As you can imagine from the name, their pies are really some of the nicest you will have — in fact so is all there food. Its small and cosy which means it doesn’t fit that many people but is still a pleasant night out. Recommended.

best food in town– worth the walk uphill but DO book! Gets VERY busy– one of the few restaurants in lincoln where you can literally be told no chance on any given night not just weekends. The Pies are an absolute delight– great range to suit all tastes– vegetarian, and carnivore– great seasonal vegetables, and the puddings are(if you are a big eater) a delight. Great place to take your parents! Rumours of ghosts especially down in the cellar.

Browns is close to the top of steep hill so treat yourself once you have climbed the hill or after exploring the attractions. They do great lunch menus .not just pies but obviously pies are yummy. Good veggie ones too. They aslo do local things like Lincolnshire Haslet and homemade soups. One of their special things is Beat the clock. The Beat the Clock Menu is a Special Two Course Evening Meal starting at 5.00pm & finishes at 6.15pm For Beat the Clock, simply add £1.00 to the time you arrive and that is the price you pay! For example: arrive at 5.10pm = £6.10p to pay! There is always a pie of the day here. Chefs specials include, Venison, Wild Boar, Salmon and Wild Rabbit. I would be wild if I was a boar or rabbit and got cooked! A La carte starts at about £8−9 for a main up to around £18. Now for the ghost part for my guide :) Staff have nicknamed this young phantom lad Humphrey. He occasionally puts in an appearance, running around the shop. A young girl is also said to haunt the building, as is the sound of money being counted. Good food. Well cooked and a quick haunt in this haunt.
