As I may have mentioned before, thanks to the partner I have, I’ve got something of an obsession with Diesel clothing. It was never meant to happen. Okay, so I’m very picky with it, you know me, I’m more likely to raid Urban Outfitters or the nearest vintage boutique for my outfit fix but when it comes to a fine pair of jeans, a swanky pair of quirky shoes or indeed a cute little summer dress, I can’t leave the brand alone. Well, it’s all the fault of a good-looking quarter Swedish boy who dresses head to toe in the garb. Almost. He has learned from the wisdom of Emma-Louise H, I’ve recently witnessed him pop into Topman more times than I expected and the man even bought a pair of cowboy boots from Ryan’s Vintage in Manchester. The fact that he has yet to wear them in public, well, we’ll let that one slide. Baby steps, people. Anyway where could be more apt for a high-end high street shop than that Mecca of WAGdom, the Met Quarter? Nestling amongst the All Saints structured skirts and the eye-poppingly bright Mac make-up is this Diesel boutique, not a bad little one at all. Coming here during sales period is an absolute must, as rather like Urban Outfitters, the reductions in Diesel are insane, particularly the final ones. You’ll find yourself snapping up shoes for £65 that were once almost £200. Diesel has always been one of the quirkier medium to high price range stores and I always think it’s worth a look, plus the jeans last forever and don’t tend to get ‘worn in’. I’ve had three pairs of Diesels for a few years now and while others have sagged in the knees and… other regularly moving places, the Diesels stand firm. This is a pain when it comes to my skintight black ones as I can’t wear them if I’m even considering eating anything throughout the day, but you can’t fault them for it. This is central Liverpool’s only Diesel boutique and for the odd bargain and a great denim investment, it’s certainly worth a browse.

‘Sex sells * unfortunately we sell jeans’ It’s not hard to see that Diesel are hoping their current advertising campaign will appeal to the American Apparel generation. Instead of featuring scantily clad youngsters in bright lyrca and vests, their window displays feature scantily clad youngsters in jeans and bright underwear. I’m sure it will attract some extra customers but am not sure it will bring them the millions of teenagers and twenty-somethings they were hoping for. After all, once you’re inside the store it’s business as usual — with a range of stylish but unexciting jeans, shirts, jackets, tees and dresses. The area that shows the most potential is Diesel’s Black Gold collection — featuring brightly coloured plimsols, suede boots, handbags, belts, bikinis and accessories.

This branch of Diesel is located in the prestigious Met Quarter shopping centre in Liverpool city centre. It’s upstairs at the back of the precinct and is laid out over 2 floors. It is very funky and modern and minimalistic. The menswear is on the ground floor and the ladieswear is accessible only by the set of stairs immediately on your left as you enter the store. It is worth it though, sa they have some lovely clothes and shoes here. Prices are steep but items are of excellent quality and very well made and long lasting. The sizes come up big in tops and small in jeans, I find, although none of the styles of jeans they offer seem to fit me anyway. Service is friendly and prompt, and you can also have a look at their book of what is coming into store if you ask nicely.
