Perfect hen night venue! LOUD, buzzing, with friendly, fun staff(with one exception, where a friend was insulted by a doorman and left, but we didn’t know about that at the time.) Not the sort of place to go for a quiet drink, but loud, brash, and busy — just right for a group wanting atmosphere and a lot of fun.

Smokie Mo’s seems to be for the older crowd which is perhaps why I did not really appreciate its unusual charms. It is supposed to represent an old western saloon bar and the décor certainly does encourage this feel but on the whole I believe that it makes the atmosphere a little bit tacky. The people in here are friendly enough as are the staff and it can be quite an enjoyable place to grab a drink at times. The value is about average for a centrally located bar and there always seems to be music and something going on in the place and the regulars are in a constant mood to have a good time and let loose. This place is always packed especially on the bank holiday weekends so they must be doing something right I suppose that being a student type it has just passed me by which is a shame but on the whole a decent enough drinking hole.

Just like Mallory tackling Mount Everest, I tried this place to say I could tick it off the list. Also, like Mallory tackling Mount Everest, I slipped and fell to my death, losing an ice axe that wasn’t discovered until 1933. The oddly terrifying thing about Smokie Mo’s is the fact the door is situated right next to the karaōke stage, meaning that everybody turns and stares at you as you step in. Themed on the Wild West, the décor doesn’t so much resemble a gritty Spaghetti Western saloon as a Desperate Dan story. The ladies all wear ten gallon hats and the walls are dotted with Cowboy and Injun tat. The blare of the karaōke is indeed a pain on the old ear canal but everybody here seems friendly enough, even if it is in a drunken, ruddy-faced kind of way. Compared to the Smokie Mo’s by Mathew Street, this one is like visiting all your most alcoholically-lovable aunties and uncles.

Smoky mo’s is a step back in time in the centre of town! It’s a karaōke pub which is booming busy all day and night. Frequented by daytime drinkers and karaōke enthusiasts, this place is a must see if you are visiting Liverpool, simply because of some of the characters that you will meet! The décor is that of a Wild West saloon, with a wooden Indian statue and various cowboys and Indians paraphernalia lining the walls and shelves of the pub. They have a wide selection of draught and bottled beers and cheap wines and spirits. If you’re looking for a quiet pub, this isn’t the place to go. However, if you’re looking for a great daytime pub with plenty of crazy characters and a bit of a sing song, then give it a visit and see what you think! Alternatively, if you’re looking for a daytime pisshead pub, there’s a few around the corner as you’re heading up Mount Pleasant.

Another of the Smokie franchise, this has been a pub of many names(most memorable of which Dickie Lewis’s, after the statue on top of Lewis’s store not far from the pub) but with the same attitude: get pissed and have a laugh. A larger pub than most, this has bar/nightclub potential, but really isn’t interested. Karaōke is on most nights and despite the size it is usually packed by 10pm. There’s a real sense of family here, as demonstrated last time I popped in with my mum and she found a woman in the loos who she used to know. It turned out the woman in the loos was there to support her son, who, in his late 30s, podgy and white, turned up to do a Michael Jackson set. He was quite good, but it was hilarious nonetheless. This is one of those pubs that out of towners would describe as typically scouse and scary, but i really isn’t that scary. Then again, I’m scouse. Having said that, I managed to get a bunch of student friends up on stage once to re enact the entire Time Warp scene from Rocky Horror. Now that’s scary…

I was at Liverpool, where I have attended the activities of Xanderand and the peace pirates, that played fantastic, the service was fast and all the staff was friendly and still looked good too. I would say a must for those who want a night away to Liverpool. Greetings from Belguim Guy

Opposite to Rileys this is a huge bar that attracts all types but always bounces with both live music and karaōke. Two bars that generally give good service from friendly bar staff. If you like it loud and brash then you’ll love it here, it’s not for the faint hearted or shrinking violets. Let your hair down and have a laugh here at Smokies.
