Great food and great atmosphere in this Spitalfields outpost: vynils of your choice, blankets and a whole chalet feel like no other. Bit on the pricey side for drinks and food, but the shop is really great.

Boy was I glad the girls at Sager + Wilde recommended this place to me! Let it be known that Androuet provides cheese wholesale to that yummy wine bar in Shoreditch serving great quality wine by the glass. When I arrived the service was warm and on point. My server Alex(andra) provided wonderful recommendations: their Langres(w a champagne washed rind) & comte aged 32 months. The wine bar is a great idea to try the cheese out before buying them at their retail shop next door. On my way out, I met one of the owners Alex who gave an informative introduction on their impressive range of cheese for sale. You can easily tell how passionate he is hearing him describe the product he sells. Overall Androuet provides the best of both worlds: in retail and in wine bar experience, built by the attentive care of two brothers who create a menu with the cheese they flavour in their kitchen downstairs, along with a trained staff that exhibit love and appreciation for the food they serve. Parfait.

More than 80 cheeses? Well, let’s settle in… We went with a cheese board of selections made by our server, Androuet fondue and a raclette. Basically a cheese dream… Board arrived quickly and was lovely, we opted for some semi-hard cheeses and they came with assorted fruits and crackers/bread. The white wine could have sat in the ice bucket for a minute as the first glass out was a bit warm but hey-ho. Then we were abandoned for a bit. I say a bit, I mean 40 minutes. I think they forgot about our remaining order… So once we got things back on track, the raclette materialized as did a fondue. The fondue was nice, more cheesy than saucey. You know what I mean though right, sometimes you get one that’s cut too much with cream or something and it turns soupy, this was nice and stringy and I appreciated it a bit more than the other way round. Raclette, always a hit, so I don’t need to sell you on that one. All in all, a great way to spend an afternoon. A few blips in service but a must stop if you’re craving something cheesy.

Lovely cozy place near brick lane, went there for dinner with friends and enjoyed the atmosphere and the menu We choose the fondue to share and one entrée each Welsh rarebit was crispy and bit spicy, yummy. My friend had a spicy mini scotch egg and he enjoyed that too. Fondue came with a good selection of crudités and salami with speck. Good amount of bread enough to finish the cheese. We accompany everything with a good Sauvignon wine. At the end we couldn’t take a dessert but next time will definitely try one.

I eat a mostly vegan diet so for a shop to tempt me with cheese, it has to be something pretty special, and Androuet seemed to be the one… But and it’s a big *but*- it was let down by the sundries. I ordered raclette which should be carb heaven on a plate really — there’s little that can go wrong. I was served a mixture of simple veggies with 2 types of cheese and a small bucket of potatoes to grill in various combos with the portable stove-top. It was certainly fun and smelled scrumptious but the potatoes were SO undercooked. I ended up asking twice for them to be fixed/replaced but I was just served back the same potatoes with a minor reheating. It really ruined what should have been a fabulous experience. The place is super cute and the waiters were kind, but how can you serve semi-raw potatoes?! Hmph.

Raise your hand if you like cheese. Ah, good, everyone. Then let me tell you about Androuet. This is a cheese shop filled with cheeses. I know, I know, that sounds a little strange, but hear me out. They have cheese from all over the world and you can try before you buy, meaning you can eat cheese, buy cheese and then bring the cheese home. Their sister shops are in Paris and Stockholm, so they’ve got some excellent taste in cheese. What’s that? You want more cheese. Well, then pull up a seat! This store also doubles as a fondue restaurant. You sit, you order your hot cheese and they set up the whole set up on your table, pot, cheese, flame, meats to go with it, bread, delicious. They usually have a pretty good deal going on for about £12 to £15 for fondue that day per person and it’s enough food to walk away feeling stuffed(although, seriously, I could have eaten more cheese.) They have seats inside and out, and even if you do want to sit watching Spitalfields Market, they have pretty intense heaters so it’s warm there even when the rest of the market is freezing. Nice. Enjoy the cheese!

Ever since meeting my BFF(Best French Friend) Sev during my exchange year I’m a big fan of cheese. When I say cheese I don’t mean the cheddar variety, which I personally find incredible(imagine that word in a french accent) boring. I think about all the lovely varieties of cheese … from blue cheese, do truffle cheese and soft camembert and brie and … it goes on forever. Anyway this shop/restaurant is giving you the option to just buy it or first eat it and then buy it. First time I went there, I just got a block of interesting looking cheese and it was good. Second time we went full out with cheese fondue and the really nice raclette: it was downright delicious. As its located inside Spitalfield Market you can sit«outside» the restaurant without being actually outside. It’s still rather chilly on a normal english spring evening, but they have heaters and blankets, which made it really cosy. I had an amazing time messing around with the cheeses and drinking a lovely wine with it. as close as it gets to the french experience. I really loved the restaurant, as the waiters were nice and unobtrusive. They give you time to sit and enjoy the meal.

Androuet was one of the first places I tried when I arrived in London, and I fully give it a 5-star based on the value, service and fondue selection — which is what I specifically came here for! There are a few different kinds of fondue, starting at 12.95. We decided to go for the special of the day, which was 14.95 per person. This was nearly 8 months ago so I’m struggly to remember what kind of cheese was being used, but it was definitely a sharper /stronger cheese with garlic and white wine — delicious! It arrived in a nice little cast iron pot with a proper flaming candle(NOT a dinky tealight candle). There was a good selection of bread, meats, vegetables and pickles to dip into the cheese, and it was heavenly! Since the flame was nice and hot, it scorched a nice cheesy crust when you reach the bottom of the pot — and you can peel it off nicely. Crispy goodness! The waiter chuckled because he noticed I didn’t leave any cheese behind. I’m tempted to try St Moritz in Soho, though part of the reason why I gave Androuet 5-star is also for the variety in items to dip into the cheese. St Moritz, I believe is more expensive and is just served with potatoes and bread. Though maybe their cheese is far superior?! No idea, but I thought at 15 per person at Androuet, this is one of my favorite spots in London. I’ll definitely come back and attempt to order different menu items, but I will be tempted to order the fondue again. A little tip: Only try the fondue if its 2 or more people. I noticed single servings are in a bowl(unsure if its cast iron, but I think ceramic), with a little tealight candle. I would stay away from anything being heated with a tealight candle, because its simply not hot enough to keep the fondue melted /bubbling. It just keeps a sad little core of the pot lukewarm, but the majority of it will chunk up — NOT the way to enjoy fondue!

I am a big cheese lover so this is my kind of place. I discovered it by accident but I am very happy with it. They have the biggest selection of cheese around most of them are from France and Spain. I won’t even have the time to try them all.

A classy place with quality food, drinks and services. The prices are somehow average, but the portions are kinda small, at least for me. The staff are polite, fast and welcoming. Decoration both outside and inside is pretty nice, improves the already nice atmosphere. In overall this is a nice place to hang out with friends.

This is the place to go if you want an excellent selection of French, Italian and Swiss cheese. The staff are knowledgeable, the cheese is impeccably kept and the staff is happy to let you taste any cheese before buying. Recently bought a nice slab of Swiss Schlossberg the quality of the cheese is amazing and I am so happy to have found a place that sells something other than cheddar and stilton.

Bless Google yet again for leading us to Androuet. My friend, an inveterate cheese-hound had been extolling the virtues of the original Audrouet in Paris where she had eaten thirty years before and had a book of cheeses published by them. But although we discovered that the Paris shop no longer includes a restaurant, we also found that Androuet had opened in Spitalfields Market and within days we had booked and visited. It was superb! Others such as cathbyron have commented knowledgeably about the shop and I won’t add anything to their praise except to agree, but next door in the tiny restaurant we had the most lovely meal. The duck’s egg, cheese, rosti and mushroom dish was absolutely delicious, while the burger, topped with a gorgeous blue cheese, was faultless and extremely tasty. We also had glasses of a such a fine organic sparking rose Pinot Grigio that we decided to buy a case for Christmas. Although the coffee machine wasn’t working and the service time is quite long as everything is cooked from scratch, we were well looked after by the French staff. Next time, we’d place our order and then browse the cheese shop while it was prepared.

Stopped in the shop thinking I’d found a place to buy lovely french cheeses in London. Wrong. Nasty, dried-out hunks of what should have been tasty, aged, but soft, even creamy goat cheeses. It wasn’t just the goats but almost all the cheeses appeared to be well past their prime. I don’t frequent Androuet in Paris as have a spectacular shop in my neighborhood, but their reputation used to be one of the best. Perhaps they’ve lost sight of the quality on the other side of the pond.

I absolutely love this place. I went there for an impromptu meal on a day a few months back and have since recommended it to all my friends. So much so that I think I went back every other weekend for more of the cheeseboard awesomeness. It got a little embarrassing after a while as I think they recognised my love of cheese. however I plan to go back very soon! The waiters are exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable about their products and which wines would be delicious with each cheese and why. They also have amazing desserts(in particular the chocolate brownie and chocolate fondue). Definitely my favourite restaurant in spitalfields!

The place to go if you’re suffering from cheese withdrawals. I’ve not bought anything from here myself as I always seem to pop in after a night of overindulgence, but my cheese-loving French friend(is there any other kind?) swears by this place. Apparently, Androuet stocks a rare French cheese which is only in season during early summer.

Androuet’s £12.95 cheese board for two isn’t cheap, but it’s one of the best cheese boards I’ve ever seen. Matt B. and I stopped in for a cheese-centric snack while we were visiting the Old Spitafields Market, and we were very pleased with what we got. The place itself is charming — it is both a cheese shop and a restaurant, with separate rooms for each purpose and patio dining adjacent to the market. We took a table on this patio and it was a great spot for people watching on a Sunday. Service was decent, efficient and moderately friendly. We just split the cheese board, as we were only looking to snack, but there was a small menu that seemed pretty appealing. The cheese board would do for a light lunch as well, though. It was pretty bountiful. It came with a selection of five cheeses with a lovely assortment of sweet onion chutney, grapes, sliced pear, dried fig with anise, and purple and golden raisins. The cheeses themselves were generously portioned and very interesting. I wish they’d been written down somewhere, because I’d be curious to look them up again. I know we had a really nice Brie de Maux and a mild, creamy Stilton. There was also one young goat cheese that was perhaps the most challenging cheese I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t buy it because I didn’t find it pleasant, but it was intriguing. The cheese was so strong that it actually numbed my mouth. I like the idea of going into a cheese shop and munching on a heap of cheese with various tasty accoutrements. I haven’t made a habit of it, but I had such a lovely time at Androuet that I might seek out similar places in the States. I would suggest Londoners take advantage of Androuet — it is a sure thing.
