Service was disappointing, one of the waitress forgot twice what we’d asked her. Other waitress was good and discreet. Would have been 3.5 stars if I could. Good mozzarella salad, good quinoa salad, average beef burger. Below standards set before.

Came here for brunch. The food was typical brunch food, nothing exciting, but quite solid. The service was, as others pointed out, slow and not so great at refilling your glass of water. The décor is nice and cozy and it is a good place for people watching — hence, the overpriced food.

The best Eggs Florentine I’ve ever had. Minimal sauce, perfect eggs — heaven. Mimosas were great, atmosphere was casual and fun and the service was good as well. Highly recommend for brunch.

A boulangerie-turn-café, with delicious food, good prices, and a fun cozy vibe for a casual bite out. While ostensibly like many of the other cafes in South Kensington and Chelsea, I found the cuisine to set Aubaine apart: I had a delicious warm Goat Cheese salad(fried medallions with spinach, fresh fruit, and a light dressing), a delightfully crisp and flavourful Sea Bass(a hearty potion, with fresh cherry tomatoes and broth), and an addictive serving of Potatoes Dauphine(creamy, cheesy, crunchy). While awkward at times(hovering near the table when unsure if we were done with our course or note) — I found the service decent for the most part. And prices? Surprisingly reasonable, with appetisers around 10GBP and mains under 20. In short — I’d go back. The menu was surprisingly diverse — and seems good for vegetarians too, with a healthy assortment of salads and warm non-meat options. Next time though, I’d be likely to order the burger — which looked AMAZING(tables to the left and right of us made, what in retrospect, should have been an obvious choice).

A reasonably priced, casual dining French restaurant. I ordered the grilled rib eye and it was surprisingly edible considering I am in London. We also ordered the fish, which was very good, just a bit on the salty side. Cocktails seem to be their speciality so take a dive into the drinks list. I will return if i’m back in the area. Pros: no fuss french food. good wine list. nice ambiance. Cons: nothing really stood out on the menu.

I was meeting a South African friend visiting from Copenhagen, who decided to invite his college buddies, an Egyptian Islamic banker and a Syrian businessman. The Syrian was a fast-talking businessperson with a taste for the finer things in life, and seemed to either live or either hang out a lot in South Kensington and he took us to this spot. The place full of the pretentious types and I could lots of eyes flitting around the restaurant to calculate the net worth of each guest based on their outfits, hair-do’s and demeanour. Most of us were only snacking and went with the highly recommended onion soup and found it delightful. I hadn’t had a meal all day so I ordered the burger. In a few minutes, the staff came over apologetically and informed me that they had run out of the bun for the burger, would I mind a different bread with my burger? Since the place seemed like a good place for bread and I generally trust the French when it comes to bread, I gave them the green light. And as it turned out, the white bread(it has been a while, I forget what type of French bread it was) accompanying the burger was fabulous. The burger itself wasn’t bad but nothing so distinctive for it to instil a craving in me. I haven’t been back there in a while, so I guess I could call the place A-OK, it served the purpose well but was not terribly distinctive.

We tried turning up once without a reservation for Saturday brunch but was surprised to find that it was virtually impossible to secure a table unless we were happy waiting some 30 — 45 minutes. So the following weekend we made a booking for noon and this time we were rewarded with an instant table on arrival(sorry to all those standing in queue!). Booking definitely the way to go. The service was quiet but attentive. The bread basket was freshly baked on the day(much like La Bouchee, another bistro down the road) and had a good selection of different flavours(plain sourdough, raisin loaf, wholemeal sourdough). I ordered Eggs Benedicte and my husband had the open tartine of goat’s cheese. We also had the Aubaine salad(served warm with chargrilled king prawns). The eggs benedicte was faultless but was so bog-standard that one struggles to come up with a compliment(the only point worth noting was the substitution of the usual ham for parma ham). The goat’s cheese tartine was the biggest triumph, with the most moreish balsamic glaze that perfectly cut through the richness of the goat’s cheese. The bill came up to c. £30 for two, which was pretty pricey, but I guess understandable given the location and the décor(sumptuous fresh hydrangeas and expensive fittings everywhere). Overall a positive experience.

This is a good weekend brunch destination but the menu isn’t really geared for it. Before 12pm, you have to order from a breakfast menu and after 12 it’s lunch. I wish someone would figure out how to combine the two into BRUNCH all-day. Otherwise, it’s child-friendly, relaxed and bit more up-market than going to a Starbucks. It’s pricey and a bit sceney but it’s cosy and offers a couple of rustic, wood tables that comfortably seat 10. There have been mixed reviews on Unilocal about the food quality but that’s because the menu is a bit hit-and-miss… you just have to know what to order. The steak is really good but the eggs Benedict always cold.

Aubaine is my location of choice for breakfast meetings. It is in a convenient location, is always busy but not packed and the food, while not adventurous, is consistently good. The service is prompt allowing you to focus on the conversation rather than the details. They know when it is appropriate to take your order, clear the table and get the cheque depending on the pace of you need. Essentially, you don’t have to worry about the food /service /atmosphere being an issue. I recommend the pastries or eggs — scrambled comes with two pieces of toast and a nice side of salad. The eggs benedict is nothing special. They also make very good coffee.

I grabbed lunch here with a group of friends after some shopping. It was a great place to grab a quick salad or light lunch with wine. Service was a bit on the lackluster side – it took a long time for them to bring us additions we asked for. We were there on a Saturday and it was filled with chic families with their kids. So much so, that we felt as if we were seated in the«children’s section.»

This French brasserie attracts a pretentious crowd wearing the latest couture, so you definitely will feel out of place in jeans and trainers, even though the stark décor suggests mid-cost cafeteria instead of upmarket restaurant. If you want to people-watch over a decent cup of coffee and a heavenly delectable croissant, this is the place to do it. But if you’re looking for something more substantial, I suggest you go elsewhere. The onion soup was watery and flavorless, and scallops served with greasy fried leeks were so overcooked they had the texture of rubberbands. The staff, like most of the clientele, is haughty, much more so than I ever encountered in Paris, and £80 for two is too high a price to pay for mediocre food and snippy service.

The name of this place is totally in accordance with the décor and the service of this place: you feel good and do not have any regrets to spend time in this place. Good choice for a tea, coffe time or any time of the day if you need to relax yourself. Aubaine welcomes everybody: mams and thier babies, group friends, meeting work

French food is one of my favourite pastimes. Whenever I see a French restaurant in London, I stop and check out the menu. When my friend asked me to go to Aubaine, a French bakery and restaurant I could not resist the chance to go. Here, I ordered the rib-eye steak French-style with a creamy cheese sauce and chips! The food in this laid back restaurant is anything but. The seasoning of the steak popped in my mouth with delight along with the salted cooked cherry tomatoes on the side. I love their fresh squeezed orange juice and usually grab a croissant on the way out!

I’d heard some good things about this place from a friend, so thought that it’d be great for a leisurely Sunday brunch to catch up with some friends. It’s very busy and attracts a wide variety of people from families with babies in tow, groups of friends catching up and the odd person reading the paper. On their website, they say, You could spend all day here. This is encouraged. Disappointingly this proved to be a false statement, with the first straw being us being moved tables so they could seat a larger group, and the second, probably ten or fifteen minutes later, asking us to leave because of another prior booking. I think it’s reasonable to ask a group one of these requests, but to do both in succession was quite the insult. We had to ask for tap water several times for the table and had to wave one of the waiter’s down to order a coffee before we ordered. For the brunch, I had the eggs benedict, and they definitely weren’t the best that I’ve had. They poached their eggs perfectly, with a soft runny yolk, but their hollandaise sauce failed to have the light tang that it should from the lemon juice. The toasted brioche was also completely overwhelmed by all the runny bits and did little to add to the overall dish. Aubaine had a lot more potential to be a great place to visit. Unfortunately their service doesn’t seem to be consistent for anyone other than large groups, and I won’t be returning any time soon.
