I went here for my staff Christmas party and am glad I did. The selection of beer was ideal and the experience of drinking some lovely booze out of a stein was great. I wish I had the name of one of their staff because she was brilliant when I said I had an allergy to apples. It’s severe so the time she took to make sure I was catered for was very much appreciated. I have mobility issues so the long benches were a bit of a challenge but that being said, there is mingling space. On another note the food was amazing! The sausages, meat, breaded cheese… So much variety and so much of it! And the mushroom sauce was lovely! One downside(about the only one) was that it was pretty noisy but that is expected for this time of year. It’s highly likely I will be back. It was a very enjoyable visit!

I have recently returned from the Oktoberfest in Munich and have been seeking out a venue to bring me the pleasant German ambience that I have so sadly missed since leaving. A friend recommended me to visit the Bierschenke so we did. It was a Saturday afternoon and quite quiet when we entered so we had the pick of the benches. We ordered to Paulaner steins which were about £10.50 each pretty similar to the Oktoberfest really. We then ordered 2 pretzels to go down with the beer they came to £2.50 unfortunately these were not like the ones in Munich but this can be forgiven. The staff were very good and we were not left hanging around for long very skillful balancing of the steins whilst being filled was witnessed. Massive large screens were showing the Bundesliga game very smart place felt very clean so had the feeling it hadn’t been open for long either that or their pride in keeping it clean is to applauded. Downstairs you could here the bustling of people eating and the atmosphere was very nice. Will definitely be returning for sure!

Very typical German environment. The food was good but the potato salad was not like in the Munich style and they didn’t have a very good variety of Munich food. It was also very noisy downstairs. The waitresses were attentive during our time there, however one of my friends forgot a document in an envelope on the table, went back 3 minutes later for it and the waitress had crumpled it and thrown it in the bin, which was very careless from her part.

Lots of fun, was there to watch a champions League match. Food was good and service was prompt. Make sure to get there early if you want a seat, it fills up fast.

Staff seems a little overwhelmed(even when the restaurant is EMPTY!), but the food is amazing. We had the sausage/schnitzel/mash/fries/etc platter for 4 – 5 people; there were 8 of us and we didn’t finish it all. Worth it! And always fun with a group of people, HUNGRY people. Pro Tip: be able to hold your drinks if you wanna drink with the Germans.

I’ve walked past the grand old buildings at this end of London Wall hundreds of times, and never once suspected that hidden behind the beautiful stone-pillared facades was a raucous underground German beer hall! I came here on a Friday eve for a couple of friends’ joint birthday — they’d booked a few of the large tables at the back of the lower floor. A good job too as the place was bustling with a real mix of people — from student types getting overexcited by the massive steins(as was I actually) to a middle-aged couple calmly having a sit-down dinner amongst the merriment around them. The seating is all raised wooden benches — so tricky to get in and out, but good for a group to sit around too. It’s great fun in there, and pleasingly true to the oktoberfest experience I had in Munich a couple of years ago — though less messy and without the german singing, plus I didn’t dress up in a dirndl this time! I don’t like heavy/dark beers, but their house lager is lovely and light — special shout out to the cute barman who was kind and unjudgey at my inexperienced pale ale questions. He also didn’t laugh when I struggled to carry two big steins away. I needed two hands to lift mine and it took me a while to get through — though most of the boys seemed to be getting through theirs much faster. I think the drinks work out pretty good value for money with decent choice, though the food seemed on the pricey side — we ordered a monster platter of sausages that arrived with chips(yum) and sauerkraut(bleugh), and the German guy in the group confirmed the taste was also quite authentic. It was a sensible move to line the stomach and arrived on an impressively large board, so major respect for the biceps the waiting staff must be developing here… We only had one beer glass casualty after an over-zealous ‘prost!’ but the staff were stars in sorting it out. They’ll also take orders from the table if you want to start a tab and actually seem to be enjoying their traditional outfits. It’s not somewhere I have the beer capacity to come on a regular basis, but great for some German themed fun with a group.

Got the schnitzel and it was amazing. Got numerous steins of beer and they, too, were amazing. Now I’m drunk and can’t sleep. Thank you Bierschanke!

Great experience. Seating is on traditional long beer tables. It was quite busy so if you are coming here with a large party it is good to make reservations. I’m vegetarian and I had the Kaesespaetzle which is like a German version of macaroni and cheese. It is served in a small metal skillet with a side salad. Though the portion looks small it is very rich and filling. You really couldn’t eat more than what is served. I paired this with the Kölsch and it went really well. Friendly service and cool environment. Will return.

I was pleasantly surprised that this pub managed to channel the oktoberfest atmosphere while keeping the kitch to a minimum. The décor is nice and homely, the staff are wearing traditional Bavarian clothes which look lovely and tasteful, not like as if they walked right out of some sleazy German-inspired costume party(as it’s often the case in other places). This is not a tourist trap, it’s a lovely German-style pub worth visiting for any beer(and especially lager) lovers. The beer is great, they nailed that aspect for sure. I was particularly fond of the wheat beer. The place gets super busy on most evenings, so if you want a table, definitely reserve beforehand & once there, I wouldn’t hesitate to order the stein(the signature two pints glass) in order to avoid queuing for a long time soon again. The food is a bit on a pricey side, but at least they have a nice and genuine meaty with a wide traditional German variety of delicious meaty dishes that go with beers just great(and they go beyond the typical German wurst). I was once lucky to witness a phenomenal oompah band there — I don’t know how often they do this, but it was a Friday and they played rock’n’roll and various pop songs in oompah style and in incredibly quick tempo with great energy — they simply blew my and my friends’ minds! Definitely watch out for them, it’s worth it.

Met here on a Friday night for a birthday do. It’s a good sized place with a great atmosphere. The beers are good quality and they served one of my favourite beers, Mac Gold from NZ. The food is great for the price, and very tasty. Definitely worth a visit for a good German feel.

This is precisely what you want if you want to go to a German restaurant(though I admit it in no way reflects my experiences in Germany. But that’s fine! Most Italian restaurants don’t reflect Italy!) There are long tables, German food, various German beers, ‘traditional German outfits’… I loved it! food was good, I had schnitzel. They get 4 not 5 as they charged me £1 for sauce on my schnitzel(I got lunch schnitzel. The full schnitzel I hear is much bigger and comes with sauce) I didn’t drink but a couple of the guys did and I hear the dark beer makes my friend extremely happy. So it must be pretty good! I will definitely be coming back. And drinking beer. So I’ll update once I’ve experienced their beers. But I recommend this place if you fancy decent German food.

Booked a table for a group of 8 people on a Friday night. We arrived at the appointed time, 6pm, and they did not have our reservation on file. We were lucky enough to avert the crisis by snagging 1 of 2 tables which were not reserved. The space is huge, one of the largest establishments I’ve seen in London. The basement is light and airy and has a bit of an IKEA feel but at the same time, a bit of a beer hall feel. The beer was good though it did take me three tries to find a beer that I was happy with — keller bier. Staff are less than friendly and service is very slow. Very, very slow. Many times I stood at the counter waiting for service to see one person manning the mass of people while 3 – 4 servers/bartenders stood at the end of the counter and watched. It was so frustrating to all of us patiently waiting. One of the patrons actually left, ordered his beer upstairs, and returned and I was still waiting to be served. That’s just unacceptable. In addition, ordering seems to be a bit challenging. One person in our group ordered a litre and the bartender has no idea what that meant. Another ordered a mass and again, no clue. I then ordered two pints(meaning a large, almost litre sized mug) and was given two single pints of the same beer. Given our struggle to get the terminology right, I think it’s best to just order by size — big, medium, small. These terms along with some hand singles would work wonders — I will definitely implement this next visit.
